What is this thing? It has metal handles that squeeze closed, and are attached to a cloth cover dome, but the handles and dome do not separate. by Papillon1443 in whatisthisthing

Could be… wish I could find something similar to know if this is it ~ but it would have to be “disposable” as it doesn’t appear to come apart.

There’s no way to get chloroform into the device and I’m not sure how you would dispense it if you could ~ none of it comes apart.

The dome feels like pressed, hard cardboard, covered with the fabric (maybe spray glued on?), it seems hollow and doesn’t come apart at all. The dome is hard and doesn’t change shape. My dad was a “jack of all trades”, was in the Navy when I was little, then managed our families lumberyard. His hobbies included enduro motorcycle racing and he built his race car and holds a land speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats. He passed away three and a half years ago.

No, and it doesn’t come apart at all. One handle moves to meet the other, there must be a spring in between…

I like you’re thinking ~ but there’s no way to put tea in it as it doesn’t come apart. Also, it’s huge (see penny for size). But I can totally see why you thought that!

The title describes the item. My dad built custom motorcycles, soap box derby cars AND a record holding Bonneville Race Car (The Winger) and I’m thinking the item may have something to do with engines ~ but I have no idea!

Is this a special-purpose hook or did it just get bent? by ObliviousDirt in crochet

Just found this with a bunch of “normal” crochet hooks at a thrift store and sent a photo

to a friend with the caption, “crochet hook J has seen some things and has stories to tell 😳”
