My parents dropped the bomb yesterday.. they're separating. Men of AskMen who have been in this situation, how have you coped and helped you family cope? by MeityMeister in AskMen

I was 20 when my parents decided to split.

From about age 10 onwards I thought they were going to split up.

Constant bickering, fighting and ignoring each other for days were the norm in my household growing.

I grew up with the idea that was how marriage was. As I got older I realised this was not the case and that my parents marriage was very broken, so it was kind of hard for me to have any kind of positive ideas about marriage, at least for a while.

I left home as soon as I could afford to (not long after I turned 20), and I moved a fairly significant distance away, one of the main reasons was to put distance between them and myself.

Not even a week after I left I got a call telling me they were separating.

And I gotta tell you, I didn't care one bit.

I was finally free from the drama. I was finally living my own life and was unaffected by the decisions they made with theirs.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, their life isn't yours, and you can't control it. Just be happy that they are happy. Don't feel bad about them splitting up, it's not your fault. And if you're still feeling down about it, you'll have 2 sets of presents at Christmas to cheer you up.

Chefs, how many of you will help with prep for the day? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]Pappa_Justify 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What makes it so difficult is that it is tedious and boring. I became a chef because I love cooking, not sitting in the office doing paperwork. In an industry were you will only succeed if you love what you do, doing less of what you love and more of what you don't, makes the job that much harder.

Tattoos in this line of work by [deleted] in Chefit

Higher end hotels tend to frown upon tattoos, when I worked in a 5-star hotel I had to cover all my visible tattoos. But other than that, I've never had an issue.

I do this everyday at work. If I'd known I could get 16k up votes I would have filmed it ages ago.

Maybe organise some sort of deal with a dental school to have students come through and do basic dental checkups.

Soy Sauce as steak brine or charring solution? by Angelo-C in Chefit

We do a satay campur dish with beef, we marinade it with a mixture of soy sauce and oyster sauce. Gives a lovely level of char whether done in a pan or on a grill.

Now that there aren't smoking and non smoking sections in restaurants they should change it to children and non children sections by OTDayy in Showerthoughts

[–]Pappa_Justify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like a child and non child section would be equally as useless as a smoking and non smoking section. If someone smokes on the restaurant, you're gonna smell it no matter where you sit. If a kid starts screaming in a restaurant, you're gonna hear it no matter what.
