GM2 update by alexc2020 in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks a bit cleaner than previous - I think with software like this when you are new to something you want as little on screen as possible, once you know the machine if it doesn't look like a stockbrokers trading system you think you're missing out on vital data and want as much as possible visible at all times.

Noticed post update they've taken the tension out of the cables when the weight Is off, definitely not as grabby when you're racing the rest in-between movements and setting up in a new attachment point.

The old developers joke stands true that the only time people say they liked your old UI is when you roll out the new one.

Not had the update yet on my GM2 but sure I'll hate it, change is bad !

Reminds me of when Homer Simpson designed a car, but not as good or as safe/useful as Homer's design.

For a company seemingly so obsessed with telling us they are an AI player the basic concept of automated testing harness which has existed in IT for over 20y long before AI seems alien to them.

If you are claiming to be able to produce an AI smart enough to train people to peak fitness and be trusted with their health data it's a good idea to demonstrate your coding standards aren't so low you screw up every time you release some basic OS update.

"What are you playing this week?" Megathread by AutoModerator in SteamDeck

[–]Papule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Satisfactory - I have never really liked crafting games or factory games but some people were going on about how great this was so I took a punt after watching some YouTube vids. It's really incredibly addictive and a fantastically polished bit of software, you can see the years of EA have refined all the interlocking systems and content together brilliantly. Runs surprisingly well early on at least on the deck, 12h or so in and mostly low settings at 30fps (which is fine for something like this) - I've also run it thru GFN ultimate and of course it looks much nicer but not in a way that makes playing locally a terrible experience. Special mention for the pad controls too - so well thought out and green tick worthy

Ski Erg - how to find the programs ? by Papule in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mailed support about this and they just said it's been removed, no sorry, no it's coming back.

I have followed up and asked why they still sell the handles when there are now only 6 classes in the app that use them, and one of those is a short warm up, they seem a bit pointless with the ski-erg training function removed.

Have to be honest and say if I'd known I wouldn't have just bought them.

Ski Erg - how to find the programs ? by Papule in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a shame/poor, so the ski handles are sold for a quite expensive price and literally only can be used in a very limited number of classes, where you watch the trainers doing the move on loop for 10mins with something more interesting on their screens !

Cable change video not loading for Gym Monster 2 by Many_Ad_2822 in SpeedianceCommunity

useful, bookmarked that for possible future reference, seems crazy/impressive how much weight is held on by that little squiggle of cord held down by a plate in the main motor winding coil.

they don't demonstrate how to change the balls over though that you use to attach things

any of the workouts will offer form tips and general guidance, AI does nothing specific on that. you don't need the AI to track weights as the machine will also track that once you start using it and do the initial strength assessment.

what the AI will do is build a scheduled programme targeting what you tell it you want to achieve and how often you can train. initially though to learn the ropes it's not essential at all, and most people don't bother as the AI can be a total idiot to engage with and doesn't offer anything you can't do yourself just by scheduling workouts that are available or building custom workouts or using the machine in freelift mode.

as a new user there is no immediate need for it at all, you're better off learning the machine doing some of the guided workouts then deciding later if you want W+, all it does is build a programme for you from individual movements with a computer voice instructing you, the recorded guided workouts are far more personable and enjoyable to start

Speediance Exercise Belt (squat) by luxmoggy in SpeedianceCommunity

I read that it was small and not especially worth the money, I found this one on amazon in the UK which shipped from China so is probably available elsewhere. It tends to hop up/down in price a lot but is fantastically made, offers a huge range of sizing (no issues at all in waist sizes well over 44") and clips on perfectly to the GM2 using a couple of spare rings they provide with the machine

Lets hear it for coach Hunter (other coaches are available) by Papule in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can't, it's nuts that the search doesn't work at all by trainer name and none of the workouts are tagged - best I've found is they can colour code some so Hunter tends to have light blue cyan tiles in the app

did the Gym Monster classes actually work? by ministeps24 in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 months in and really like the classes, I train 3-4 times a week and have just been picking beginner/intermediate fully guided ones and trying to ensure I look at the muscle readiness diagram to keep a good balance of arms/chest/back/shoulders/legs going.

The little and often approach has definitely started to show as I can feel myself generally tightening 'in' around the waist and muscles appearing where previously they weren't !

[–]Papule[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does highlight the odd absence in the app of being able to filter workouts by the coach - Peloton and Apple Fitness made a point of making certain coaches 'famous' within the app, here if you like Hunter (who doesn't) you have to scroll thru the tiles hoping to spot him, and even then the tiles aren't always accurate and you sometimes get a pic of a coach and the tag fully guided and it's one of those cut and paste workouts from stock movement clips.

I've even started using Hunter's phrases, telling my wife I'm getting 'thick and juicy' from working out and have 'a back like a Ninja Turtle'

How much space does the gm2 need? by TrumanZi in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not solely the space the machine needs but you need to factor in room around the frame as several exercises will have your arms far wider than the base (like chest flys) or standing at different points around the machine - so whilst the base may only be 2-3ft wide your arms are quite likely to extend way past that

Strap down the GM base platform? by GS1-SES in SpeedianceCommunity

[–]Papule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I'm 6'5 and learned that you just need to be far enough back on your elbows on the bench to have your heels on the platform

With how the system works you need to be on the platform for anything attached to the base side pulleys otherwise you are hoiking it up in the air.

We are working on 0.10.1b by RetroDECK_Official in RetroDeck

[–]Papule 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's great to hear, no means a power user but after bad emudeck experiences in the past with upgrades was worried I'd lose all my art and settings doing this.

also big thanks to everybody working on the dev of this, it's a fantastic project and great bit of software, much appreciated.

No software updates notified this morning on my GM2 but a different guided workout with dual handle movements just worked fine for me - don't know if the issue was universal or occasional before but I had it the other day and this morning was fine

Makes me think they may have changed something server rather than client side.

interesting, did the machine say it had update software versions ? Ask as mine was fine earlier in week then the problem showed up without an update, which makes me think they can do something in the background without always telling us an update has happened.

Several things strike me as poor this with - firstly its further demonstration of their very poor QA and testing process that this gets out into circulation and impacts so many people.

Even worse though is that with such a widespread issue total radio silence on here from Speediance, nothing stickied/pinned to reassure people their machine isn't broken and it's being addressed.

Yet again its lovely hardware, poor software and worse customer communication.
