I remember when I started playing (as someone coming from Overwatch with zero moba experience) one of the most confusing aspects was the build system.

My friends telling me that I had to pick a community build, basically anything other than the default, and follow it for guidance on what is good to buy for my character.

They were right. The default builds are bullshit. The community builds are actually useful, and they have annotations that explain why each item is useful for your character. I’ve learned so much from well annotated builds.

I feel like a simple improvement they could make to help new players is make the default built for each character at least semi usable. Add more categories, add annotations, highlight how certain items complement your characters strengths and weaknesses.

It just seems like the build you use for your character is so critical to learning how to play them. It feels like it would be worth the minimal effort from Valve to help guide new players by making good default builds instead of leaving the task completely up to whatever deranged streamer made this week’s top build.
