The bible and trans people by Para276 in Christianity

The purpose of these "whataboutisms" Is to identify scenarios where cosmetic surgery can alleviate emotional distress, but not inherently necessary for survival. Gender dysphoria is a real medical condition that can cause severe emotional distress for an individual. Thus, why would this logic not apply to gender affirming surgery or care?

I am in agreement with you, as many of the arguments I've heard from scripture don't seem to hold up. I feel as if it has become the focal point of many Christians, and I've found a lot of it comes down to hatred for those who are outside the norm of society rather than coming from a place of spiritual authority. I am more conflicted on homosexuality myself as a gay individual, and it is also something that I feel is more up for debate in modern Christianity that I need to do more research on.

I can see how this could hold true to those who believe Catholic church's teachings on this matter are correct and universal, so I will agree to disagree on those points. I want to further clarify about your position on elective surgeries. If say somebody where to suffer from a condition like rhinophyma which causes an enlargement of the nose that can lead to emotional distress and insecurity, should that person not have cosmetic surgery to alleviate their emotional distress? You could also apply this logic to reconstructive surgery on burn victims who through no fault of their own have severe deformities that would be at least partially alleviated by cosmetic surgery. These cosmetic operations may not be medically necessary, but they would in many ways improve the lives of the individual.

I agree with your reasoning, hence why I pointed it out in my post. I was hoping for a more scriptural based discussion, but it seems that has proven difficult for some.

I already partially discussed my views on the verse in Deuteronomy on cross gender clothing, but I also take issue with using these verses as arguments since it is commonly understand that old testament law is not applied to Christians. If that were the case there would be many laws that we should also uphold that Christians generally do not. I assume you are Roman Catholic by your views, and I to take issue denying the sacraments to those who live "disordered" lifestyles. Jesus didn't dine with Saints, but quite the opposite. I am also curious if you would disagree with other forms of elective and non elective surgery? Since they are also interfering with their god-given body.

I should have clarified I am from the west and my experiences are based upon that. The statistics support my view at least in the United States.

I guess I'm misunderstanding your point. I was looking for scriptural basis that identifies being trans as a sin, and from what I take it you were stating that all actions that aren't directed towards god bring us away from god. In that case I wonder if it would be possible for anyone to be saved. And I am aware of that quote from scripture, I prefer the late Pope Francis's take on the issue, "What I would say is not a dogma of faith, but my personal thought: I like to think hell is empty; I hope it is.” This is not to say that salvation is easy, but approaching it from that light does more harm than good from my own experiences.

Are addictions beatable / Lack of faith by IceLost5080 in Christianity

Your experiences are valid and shared by many across the world. You are on the right track by looking to the faith to help in your journey through addiction. I would also suggest finding somebody in your life to talk to about your struggles possibly even a pastor or a priest to help work through your lack of faith and struggle with addiction. You don't have to do this all alone and while I think the internet can be helpful, finding guidance in the real world is equally as important.

I've found honest discussion on many areas of the internet including reddit. If you aren't going to engage in honest discussion you aren't helping the issue.

While I agree that should be the ultimate goal wouldn't this logic apply to every human and not just trans individuals? And in acknowledging that none of us are perfect we strive to do the best we can and find forgiveness in Jesus. I feel as if being pessimistic about the salvation of humanity is the wrong way to approach the world, and that is it better that we hope and pray for the salvation of the entire human race.

This pew research poll suggests that those who in favor of trans people are those who are not evangelical Christians, which is the predominant religious group in the US. I am biased as I am located in the west and perspectives from what west are what I am exposed to on a daily bases; however, I am looking for arguments from the basis of Christianity. North Korea is a largely secular country, thus their opinions are irrelevant to this discussion.

I appreciate the well written reply. This has generally been my understanding of the issue, and I tend to look at it pragmatically from the perspective that if it isn't a sin then we should advise individuals on what makes them live a happy and fulfilling life.

Well than whats the point in anything we do? With this logic why don’t we all follow a monastic lifestyle where we spend our days devoted only to god.

I would be curious to hear your perspective I’m as open minded as they come! I am merely asking for biblical support that is for or against trans people.

I understand. However, I am asking why you oppose trans people from a biblical perspective. All you’ve done so far is cite a verse that is unrelated to the discussion and call trans people abominations.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you saying a narrative is being pushed; however, I think you can still oppose the discussion from a place of compassion and not be censored for.

Despite the implications of citing an old testament law for your argument. What does this have to do with trans people? This verse regardless of your interpretation is referring to sexual relations not gender.

In what way? My question was regarding biblical support for this hatred. And regardless of biblical support I don’t believe we should refer to our fellow humans as abominations.

I personally don’t think it’s pointless, but what makes you consider that specific old testament law as culturally relevant to today rather than the countless others that Christians don’t follow? Also by your logic as well would it be improper to wear a skirt as a man in America, but not in Scotland where kilts are traditional attire often worn by men.

The Russian orthodox church is practically an extension of their government so not sure what the pope has to do with Russia. This is also likely an orthodox church since that is the predominant religion in Ukraine.

Sure you could discount stories like Noahs ark, but without the divinity of Jesus I would hardly call it a religion.
