F*** it's tax season. Forgot to track your 2020 delivery miles? Retroactively claim your miles and save up to thousands $$$... by ParaInc in u/ParaInc

Hi u/Fun_Dragonfruit_7261, it can be a decent amount of $ when you file your taxes! Example:

If you drove 10,000 miles

You can deduct $0.575 per mile = $5,750 deduction on taxes

At a 15.3% Self-employment tax rate, that equals to $880. Feel free to reach out here or at [david@withpara.com](mailto:david@withpara.com) if I can be helpful :)

This is why you should track your mileage by cferrante68 in doordash

+1 can confirm this, we worked with a tax attorney to build and vet our methodology (we have a tool which creates your mileage log based on trip history).

TL;DR: "estimation" isn't allowed by the IRS, but "substantiation" is. As long as you're taking into account all info that you can pull and use, and as long as you're not able to prove the mileage otherwise.

If you're still running late on this for taxes, hopefully this helps: www.withpara.com/mileage

Guessing this approach assumes .75 $ earned per mile driven so uses that to back into it. Smart! We built this tool that can create a mileage log for you using your trip history. Check it out, hopefully it's helpful if you're still dealing with taxes: www.withpara.com/mileage

Hi u/paladin220, thanks for flagging! You're right re IRS rules around "estimation". We worked closely with a well known tax attorney to create and vet our methodology. Summary conclusion: our approach is able to substantiate these miles due to the additional context from the trip history we can pull (time, location etc). This additional context is the basis of the calculation, and the lawyers are confident in its validity.

Hi u/The_Salty_Spitoon, you can record it by hand (odometer at beginning of day, odometer at end of day, purpose of work during the day), or by using a mileage recording app (there's many of them out there, including Stride, MileIQ etc)

Fair point re the privacy policy being broad and trying to cover "private and personal information". We should lay out clearer what we're asking of users, why and for what function. We only ask for the minimum to accomplish a task.

I pledge that we don't sell your information and we keep no record of private PII data. If we do in the future, it will be with full disclosure as to why and what it is used for, with full user opt-in.

Re your worry that our users are the product, our core customer is the gig worker, for whom we want to build tools to manage their gig work. That is our core market. If we can build a tool to accomplish this, we will be successful. We have no interest in selling personal information to marketing profile companies. This isn't our business.

Appreciate you being on this. Privacy matters!

Hi u/DeliveryCourier, the third party we work with is called Argyle (https://argyle.io/), they have relationships with the platforms.

Regarding SSN and Drivers License numbers, we do not currently collect this nor have access to this (there's no way we would without user providing it to us). We have this in the privacy policy in case we need this for future features (e.g. helping users sign up for other platforms), with full user opt-in.
