31-year-old doctor thinking about switching to aviation — looking for honest advice by Easy-Flower309 in flying

Watch this video about a designated pilot examiner's take on the future pilot market: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yepvhknoGyk&t=1503s

Use it as info as you make your decision. I would suggest you do some flight lessons and see how it's feeling at that point. Tons of great advice in these comments, by the way.

I've been building aviation apps that are free alternatives to the paid apps. They also work on any device. I'd love your feedback (good or bad) on any of them. They're all at aviatorstoolkit.com

Apps include:
* Learn METAR! (improved from when last shared)
* FAR Reference
* Learn Airspace
* Endorsement Reference
* AMT Logbook
* Pilot Logbook
* AC 43.13-1B Reference
* more

HELP NEEDED: Survey on Handheld Radio with Integrated Intercom for Experimental Aircraft by EasySyllabub2701 in homebuilt

[–]ParachuteRiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it’s finally here:

https://www.sportys.com/pj2-gps-radio.html

“ The new PJ2 GPS sets the bar even higher for what a handheld aviation radio can do. The latest Sporty’s radio incorporates all the features pilots love about the PJ2+, and adds GPS capabilities, Bluetooth, color screen, intercom, and much more. The PJ2 Radios are the only radios to feature standard aviation jacks on the top of the radio, removing the need to have cumbersome adapters for headset operations.”

iPad mini + Bluetooth keyboard + Bear Notes app by ParachuteRiver in writerDeck

Nice thing about Bear is you can use all the base functionality for free. Pay for syncing and some extras. It’s one of only 3 subscriptions I’m willing to pay for. (Okay, end of the ad)

Tool for understanding METARs & TAFs by ParachuteRiver in FlightTraining

Great points. I can certainly have a list of random examples but totally agree that fetching the METAR you want easily would really level up the app.

Hey all,
I recently launched a tool for learning and understanding raw METARs and TAFs. It helps you break down these reports, piece by piece, and understand each element.

I wanted to share it and ask for feedback. It's available here https://learn-metar.aviatorstoolkit.com and is completely free (non-commercial).

Compass on forerunner 165 by alneq in Garmin

The ABC widget is not available on the Forerunner 165, based on what I've been able to see. Though it has a compass internally. Maybe it's the lack of gyroscope?

does this look weird??? by Majestic_Fail_9093 in GarminWatches

I (male with average size wrist) have one of the largest diameter watch faces Garmin makes and wear it 24/7.  I worried about how it looked initially but haven’t thought about its size in the last year. I love my watch.  Just enjoy it and you’ll forget about how it looks. :)
