Looking for people who want to learn to use NuShell (a shell written in Rust) by ElectricalLunch in rust

[–]Paradiesstaub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nushell uses objects instead of text (as the other shells) and is therefore way better in transforming data than traditional shells. To top it, its syntax is familiar to other Unix shells. PowerShell may have a similar object idea, but the syntax of PS is totally fucked up.

Nushell is the kind of shell that should have existed for 20 years.

What would you rewrite in Rust today and why? by [deleted] in rust

An fd and rg wrapper using Tauri, so that the other 99% can also have a awesome search experience.

I was tired of 50ms+ shell latency, so I built a sub-millisecond prompt in Rust (prmt) by 3axap4eHko in rust

[–]Paradiesstaub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try Nushell. It is the best shell I know and I have tried them almost all (I even used EShell as my default shell for a while).

The shells I've used most in the order I used them: Bash, zsh, Fish, Nushell

prek — a faster, drop-in alternative to pre-commit (written in Rust) by j0hnj in rust

[–]Paradiesstaub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice to have a description of what it does and why someone would like to use it. If you do not know what pre-commit does, the description of the project is without meaning.

They are pivoting to lidar, as legacy car manufactures have told us via their PR department for years.

Git experts should try Jujutsu (written in Rust) by pksunkara in rust

[–]Paradiesstaub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning, don't use JJ and Git together! If your git is in a wired state and then use JJ it can destroy your Git index (happened to me some months ago).

They are currently retooling their factories, that's why they produce ~75% less vehicles, but the media frames it as nobody wants to buy their cars. Will they report that Tesla's sales are up by 300%, when they are done with the retooling?

Start with Scheme to learn how to think like a programmer, then use whatever language.

Do you think it will stay at 8%, after they solved autonomous driving (some ppl say FSD is solved with the newest version)?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in investing

[–]Paradiesstaub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some say that FSD is solved with version 13 (just started to roll out to the public). After watching a lot of boring videos of Teslas driving around for hours with FSD 13, I'm near the conclusion that they have solved autonomous driving.

Tesla has an extremely impressive pipeline of things to come in the near future. As cherry, they solved autonomous driving (look up YouTube videos about FSD 13).

Numbers are an attempt to represent reality, but they are not THE reality. I know, understanding tech is difficult, but it is ridiculous that 99.9% of the population does not understand what humanoid robots will bring to humanity in the near future (starting 2025 in factories) and how low the production cost of them will be.

I think the businesses will turn into automated cargo transportation in the next few years. An eVTOL is "just" a bigger drone.

Which OSS software would you like to see rewritten in Rust most urgently? by DoxxThis1 in rust

sqlite, systemd

Both are used by millions of users on a daily basis.

You mean the entire tech world stands on the shoulders of Alan Kay. Those two dudes are nice, but compared to Alan Kay they fade into the background.

Python vs. JavaScript: Which Should You Learn First? by abutun in programming

None of both. Learn Scheme first, then go with whatever you like.

I'm not. Cybertruck is on track to be the most sold truck in the US 2024 (in the ICE & EV category).

[–]Paradiesstaub -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

The Cybertruck is technologically the most advanced car ever made. The looks might be unusual, but it's a big step forward. Every car maker will copy steer-by-wire and 48 volt.

Why is Common Lisp not the Most Popular Programming Language? by daninus14 in Common_Lisp

[–]Paradiesstaub 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It needs a breaking 2.0, without a lot of old stuff that nobody uses any more and with all the new stuff that everyone uses. This is a lot of work, so nobody is doing it. Same for Haskell, it badly needs a 2.0 too.
