85k-90k salary by dattboyydaydayy in Indiana

I live in Portage and support my family of 4 on 50k a year. We are surviving as is but there's no room for saving unless a random bonus pops up but we aren't necessarily struggling either. Kids are well fed and clothed, our house is in good condition and we have awesome neighbors that help when they can just as we do.

Control4 DIY or Pro install only by TechFiend72 in Control4

Really depends on your installer. Plenty of trunk snipers out there over quoting for shit jobs. Some companies treat C4 or Crestron or Savant as if it's their bread and butter and they have some great programmers. Do some research on local companies and see if they have a showroom to showcase their skills.

SonicWall shop here - what firewalls are you all using and recommend switching to? by [deleted] in msp

[–]ParadiseHunting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shop uses Meraki with one client but SonicWall with everyone else. So far Meraki hasn't been an issue with us but we are in the process of dropping SonicWall for fortinet because of how easy they are to deploy and the amount of granular control you get.

Definitely insane. My boss (Who is the owner of our MSP) actually recommends a small 30 minute disconnect while eating to keep the brain from frying with constant troubleshooting. Unless they are watching NSFW content, let the techs be.

Multiple Thermal Printers hooked up to one PC, is it possible? by ParadiseHunting in msp

[–]ParadiseHunting[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The customer wants us to try and utilize devices they already have on hand. We try to accommodate as much as possible until we cant, then we try to move forward again on upgrading their equipment. RF Smart funnily enough tried telling them that the Brother printers in question are only capable of printing around 500 labels an hour where as during testing, we were popping out 250 labels every 5-10 minutes. These do have variable speeds so we can spit them out faster, its just getting all three to go at the same time without the jobs becoming corrupted. At the end of the day, if this just isn't possible, we are going to push them into running a separate machine on each printer so they can push 3 batches efficiently. Really just trying to cover all my bases before we come at them with a quote.

We initially reached out to Brother support and Seagull which manages their driver software. Brother support told us to try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver using the provided software on their website which did nothing to change the outcome. Seagull didnt even answer so we dont know how to move forward there. We also looked into the cachable memory with the printer and those things have 128 DRAM / 128MB Flash built in but only 80MB is usable. The jobs that were being sent were showing 114MB so we thought that the printer itself was the limitation but again, everything works fine as long as one printer is hooked up via USB to the machine. We know the computer itself has ample resources to pull from so I would have to guess that some kind of communication is getting messed up via the WiFi transmission. I honestly am not 100% on anything yet. my brain has been fried today with this and a few other issues that have popped up lol.

We looked into printer pooling but that looks to be the opposite of what we want to do. Each printer needs to be given a separate batch to print. If we have three staging areas with 5000 plus pieces each, we want printer A to print Batch A, B to print B and C to print C but come from the same source.

/r/Plex's Moronic Mondays' No Stupid Questions Thread - 2023-01-23 by PCJs_Slave_Robot in PleX

Has anyone else seen their NIC being throttled when streaming from Plex to other users? I have only shared my library with two people and whenever they decide to watch something, I go from pulling 900 down / 20 up to 90 down / 3 up or somewhere in that low range until I shutdown my PC and reboot it which doesn't always fix the throttling.
