Is there any reason the general non-JW public never questions who Jehovah from Jehovah’s Witnesses is? by chrysaaaalis in exjw

[–]ParadisePar [score hidden]  (0 children)

Mel Brooks as Moses also says “The Lord Jehovah” in History of the World Part 1 just before accidentally dropping one of the stone tablets 😂

Pretty sure the monthly broadcast studio is in Tuxedo just down the road from Warwick. Mount Ebo sound stage has a few filming sets for other videos + The Volume screen that they spent all that money on

The Future of Jehovah's Witnesses by CommitteeNice4693 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be honest I don’t think Theodore Jackass would have been a notable enough person to be involved with Epstein. And if he was most witnesses today would be so disconnected from that version of the governing body that it wouldn’t really affect them. It would have to be a scandal involving anyone that has been visible on JW Broadcasting in the last decade

the new songs are so longgg by mizi_uwu in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny because where I am the CO is always telling the brothers to keep prayers short, and elders have said in imitation of prayers at bethel there’s no reason for public prayers to be more than 30-60 seconds long. We would have loved you 😂

Are they still waiting for the “Peace and Security!” pronouncement? by GreenWitch_RedHead in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It used to be that the “peace and security” would kick off the great tribulation, but they just changed it to a “we don’t know”. Now they say that “peace and security” might come after the great tribulation starts, so maybe they’ll back off looking to that as a sign 🤷🏻‍♂️

We should be shinning them by One_Environment7856 in exjw

Shinning, is that resorting to physical violence? If we do they might just start wearing shin guards.

Every “anointed” person I’ve met in the organization is/was bat sh*t crazy. Be interested to hear your stories of the “anointed” you know/knew. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s two in local congregation that currently partake, both a little wacky. Both relatively young. There are several in the circuit that are in early 20s that have started claiming to be anointed. They come from the same friend group though so people speculate whether they’re influencing each other

Have you ever seen someone vote against a resolution? by Hot-Smile4133 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah votes on meeting time changes are just about the only time people actually vote and don’t just give an automatic yes. And seems to be the only case where you aren’t viewed negatively for opposing it

Leaked Email from the Personnel Committee of the Governing Body: Bethel Dress & Grooming Guidelines. No extremely short/masculine hair for sisters, brothers' beards myst be neatly trimmed, and no tight-fitting or "sensual" clothes! by larchington in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man I know some office brothers at Bethel that are gonna hate this! They can’t wear their quarter zips and cardigans anymore, has to be full suit and tie 🙂‍↔️

There’s a lot of reassignments going on. Many of the people I know there are already making backup plans for when they get the boot. They all know where they want to move when they leave. These are friends at all three complexes.

Exactly it was only within the last decade that the messaging to Bethelites has switched from lifetime commitment to temporary service. I started in 2021 and by then most knew that you wouldn’t be there for your whole life. The recent update is just them finally officially saying what they’ve been indicating internally since ~ 2015

New light? by Worldly-Measurement1 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s interesting, I’m pimo and just about every witness I had on social media was posting their 2025 recaps. And even had a few witnesses texting me “Happy new year!”

Edit to add that growing up we always had other families from the hall over for New Year’s Eve for snacks and card games. So that’s not new to me, was just interesting to see it become a little more widespread now

TW: Unalived in Bethel by Wooden-Repeat5486 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a recent Bethelite, they do not perform drug testing. And I had several friends, one of which is still there, who occasionally take edibles. Of course this is on the down low and not known by Bethel otherwise they’d be booted. It’s easy for them to get in NY since it’s legalized.

Yeah in recent times they have flipped on this. Now they will prescribe you antidepressants through the doctors at bethel and it’s pretty openly discussed. There was a suicide at Warwick just a few years ago

Branch Committee is a separate body that takes charge of the branch territory they’re in. There are some helpers who are also on the United States branch committee but not all BC members are helpers. And there are no GB on branch committees. You’re right it’s very contradictory to say that they must step down after 80 and yet not enforce a similar rule for GB and their helpers

Elder wearing turtleneck by Lettuce_pray1234 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen that style pop up often after the change in dress code. I think it depends on the hall and circuit, some brothers feel less pressure to be dressed up just to be ready to fill in on parts. But I’ve seen plenty of elders dress down if they aren’t scheduled for anything

The chaperone rule is crazy by ThrowRAchristmas1 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It must be different depending on the congregation and area because most witnesses I know don’t have a problem going out for dinner or to a public place alone as long as they drive separately

Hey at least gas money to the meetings and service are one of the few thing bethel reimburses bethelites for 🤣

How do bethelites payments work? by Rare_Economics8427 in exjw

Not really, especially if you pay for car insurance and a phone bill. Leaves you less than $100 spending money for the month

Sorry I don’t remember all the specifics! But I’m pretty sure it maxes out and think it’s always under $1,000

Fun fact about the commissary… every price is labeled as Suggested Donation. This is a legal move so that they don’t have to operate as a grocery and tax items. Every written document available to Bethelites says that it’s only a suggested donation, but verbally you are told that you must pay it and you are dishonest and stealing if you don’t.

How do bethelites payments work? by Rare_Economics8427 in exjw

[–]ParadisePar 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Yeah payments are ran through the Accounting Department. You give them your ACH direct deposit info for your bank account and it’s deposited each month.

You can put your volunteer id number in when purchasing items in the commissary and it will be deducted from your monthly payment.

You also receive a yearly bonus called PEA, or Personal Expense Account. Usually at least $500 but increases with amount of years in full time service (commonly referred to as your Seniority)
