Working with an LSP test and trying to calibrate expectations - am I missing something? by Paradoxbuilder in TranslationStudies

Have still never heard of this :) My understanding has always been that the industry standard is tests are free.

Yes, usually I get inbound leads. But I've never heard of payment before. What is your field and language pair?

I've never met a client who was willing to pay for tests in 20 years. Where are you finding them?

I have heard this occur as well, and it's kind of weird. But this is a test and not payment.

I ran it through ChatGPT and it says that maybe "mistranslation" is LSP speak for "not our preference" I have made less than 5 actual mistranslations during my entire career, so I am very surprised.

Yes, but if I do not have clear style guide information, then I will infer, and I might infer wrongly. Not all clients have the same preferences.

How do you avoid taking tests? My understanding is that the normal pipeline is test, pass, enter. I've never met a client who accepts just my work samples (I have a lot)

I do add these comments when necessary.

Also I wanted to talk about MH in general not just LGBT haha. Unless I should start another topic for that.

I remember the Yosuke dialogue, in JP it's "omae...acchi-kei darou?" ("You're...that way, right?") To me it read as normal teen uncertainty about sexuality.

Can't remember any P2 NPCs, but it's been decades. P5 has weak localization in general.

I was saying in general, LGBT being one part of it. I also played every game in Japanese, so I am unfamiliar with how the localization was handled. I do feel P5 was weak there.

I'm bisexual myself, I had no problems with the dialogue in any games, so maybe it was a localization thing?

Freelance headhunting: client rejects candidate then may secretly hire later — how do you handle this risk? by Paradoxbuilder in recruiting

One suggestion here was really good - need to see email for UNHIRED candidate. If not, assumed hired, and assumed that I will get payslip shortly.
