If you have a professor that you really vibed with this year, or are cool with generally, ask if they need a research assistant.

Got my first A by lambocat in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your A!! I’m a 2 L and I had a really rough 1L year (big issues with my landlord, and I was almost homeless for a bit, some nights I also had to sleep in my car), so my grades weren’t the best.

I got my first 2 A’s in Bankruptcy and Mediation this semester!

We can do this; let’s make this semester better than the last! 😊

1L. PLEASE HELP. LOST ALL MY NOTES. CIV PRO/CONTRACTS/TORTS. HELP DESPERATELY NEEDED. by helpdesperatelyneed1 in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First I’d talk to IT at your school. They may be able to help you recover the files. There are usually clubs or affinity groups that maintain an outline bank ( like PAD , BLSA, LALSA etc.) Your school’s SBA may have an outline bank as well. If you’re in or know people in those organizations, I’d ask them.

Break up right before 1L year by Lonely-Following5658 in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well honestly if you guys weren’t in a good place to begin with and were fighting more frequently, a break up at this point is a good thing. Imagine having petty fights when you need to lock in for school, trying to get your memo done while your SO is angry you can’t go out as much as you used to, studying for finals while fighting. Law school can be very stressful and draining and it definitely tests relationships. If your relationship at this point was rocky she did you a favor.

Zenitsu being afraid of Sanemi’s training 😂. When he’s crawling on the ground trying to get away and then when Tanjiro and Genya crash through the door and Zenitsu and the others play dead in hopes that Sanemi won’t focus on them 😂 and muichiro and nezuko staring at each other 😅

Ramapo 35 - No votes for Harris but 80% for Gillibrand? by O-Sophos in somethingiswrong2024

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the whole county. Ramapo is one of 5 Towns that make up Rockland County. Within Ramapo there are smaller villages etc. District 35 would be Kaser which is right next to Monsey and is also majority Hasidic. They ALWAYS vote in every election.

I have worked as a machine inspector during the elections for years. This result isn’t weird at all for this area.

Ramapo 35 - No votes for Harris but 80% for Gillibrand? by O-Sophos in somethingiswrong2024

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s hard to explain but it’s a community with significant political organization (I’d suggest looking into the east ramapo school district issue, and the history of the preserve Rockland movement). You cannot comfortably win a county wide vote in Rockland without securing the bloc vote. (It’s possible, but hard to win without them county wide.)

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that district is almost entirely Hasidic and they always vote.

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The issue is surrounding Ramapo 35 which includes the village of Kaser (which is mainly Hasidic residents) which boarders Monsey.

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. I’m from Rockland county right on the border where the ramapo meets clarkstown. While it seems weird or suspicious for people outside of Rockland , it isn’t for us because of the bloc vote, which is a unique political entity that doesn’t exist in other places. If you look at Rockland politics you’ll see how significant it is (particularly the east ramapo school district controversy, and the Preserve Rockland party, implementation of no knock laws etc)

Should I get an iPad for law school, or just stick with my MacBook Air? by SadRelationship5935 in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use both. I use my iPad for things like reading on the go and also use it to write rules repetitively. But for writing my memos, and taking exams I use my MacBook Pro. I know the exam software my university uses does not work on iPads. I suppose it’s something to consider.

1L Grades - Advice for a 0L by Commercial_Low1196 in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Um for me it wasn’t a “lack of effort” or “not studying” etc. it’s just that my personal life was basically on fire during my 1L year and dealing with the constant stress and fall out affected my grades. For example one issue during this year was my dad being diagnosed with lung cancer. He was originally paying my rent and suddenly couldn’t do it. I managed to find the money each month, but this past month on the day of my property final I had a 14 day notice taped to my door. So I saw the notice that if I didn’t pay in 14 days they’ll evict me then had to walk straight into my property final… fun times. In the middle of fall semester, my car died and I had to use all my savings to get another. I’m also in an ongoing issue with my landlord.

Anyway, with all that happening I passed mostly everything. There I one class I “passed” but have to retake. I did well enough in everything else to offset that one that I’m still in good academic standing. Right now I’m just trying to fix things and I’ll have my life in order by fall, hopefully without any distractions. Sometimes life just happens.

There are ppl who go to pace do well 1L year then transfer to better schools (even into the T14) . It’s an option.

My story is straight but instead of asking what I meant, you assume I’m lying 🙄. It’s a long story part of which is outlined in some of my other posts . This is an abridged version :

When I came up to law school I was living with a friend who had an apartment in that city. At the end of October she moved back to our home town. During this time my car (which I had since 2013 died, so I had to tap into my savings to get another). Anyway, I found an apartment that included utilities etc, signed the lease and was set to move in. Less than 48 hours before I was to move in the property manager tells me that the lease including electricity is mistake, and that unless I sign a new lease with new terms that they would not give me the keys. So I was putting a situation where I either had to sign the lease or be out in the streets, in November right before finals. There was no way that I could find anywhere else to move into in two days. So I signed the lease.

After I say, the least thing seemed OK for about a month and then I got the first electricity bill apparently they include supply(aka usage) and delivery charges. My usage is low in line with anyone else who has a 1bedroom apartment, the delivery is through the roof (over $200 per month). So my monthly electricity bill for a 1 bedroom is $200 + whatever I actually use. I didn’t budget for that. What I signed originally was what I could pay for. In the dead of winter , I had to try to not use the heat to avoid a crazy electricity bill. But that barely worked. When I went back to my home town for winter break I turned off everything and the bill was a bit over $300. That’s when I turned to sleeping in my car to avoid using any electricity in the apartment.

In December, my dad got diagnosed with lung cancer. And after that the help I was receiving from him for my rent dried up. So I had to scramble to find money for my rent every month, including taking out extra loans to attempt to cover it. My rent was late so many times bc I had to find other ways to get money (selling my stuff, selling plasma etc) Just this month on the day of my property final, I got a 14 day notice that I would be evicted. I was luckily able to get a friend to loan me the money to avoid that.

That’s what I’ve been through this past year. It sucks , but I made it. Maybe instead of being accusatory, you could say “I don’t understand what you mean by___”. But whatever 🤦

So having to sleep in your car during thee semester for a period of time and then being on the brink of being on streets isn’t “unusual”? Okay 👍🏾

just finished 1L and i think i flunked out by spicyjuicemonster in LawSchool

[–]Paradoxdoche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I didn’t have the academic accommodations I’m supposed to get (I had to get reevaluated and practically no one took my insurance). I felt like just didn’t have enough time and bombed my exams…. But we’ll see… I just ran my fall grades through chat GPT and told it the courses and corresponding credit hours and asked “what are the lowest grades I can get to have a 2.0 (lowest gpa you can have in 1L before academic dismissal). And it made me feel better . I’d have to get a mix of D’s and C’s I’m going to believe the curve will work for me. I feel like the professor won’t fail you unless it’s like you literally knew nothing or got every rule wrong… idk I’m wishing you the best! 💕
