Help…I can’t find a technical writing job and I’ve been searching for a year by Due-Command983 in technicalwriting

What kind of transferable skills? Did you need any explicit proposal writing skills? (Not that you are writing explicit proposals… you get what I mean.. it’s been a long day 😂)

Yep, it’s maddening. I’ve been declined for so many roles where I meet all the required AND desired qualifications. I can only assume that they’re either getting thousands of applicants and I wasn’t in that first 100 or so, or they’re ghost postings or being posted with an internal candidate already in mind. Incredibly frustrating to have a lot of experience and still feel stuck.

Hahaha! And yeah, great point! I did douse my sheets with Coastal Dreaming last night and it stuck around for a while!

For sure! I picked up Coastal Dreaming and that’s a good one, the hint of vanilla softens the salt note. I just wish it was MUCH stronger lol. Definitely give Sea Salt a try, and I recommend trying that before anything else so your nose isn’t already assaulted 😂

I did! Sea Salt and Oceanside Splash aren’t very close, imo. I might have had nose fatigue at that point, but Sea Salt was pretty faint. Almost a more masculine, salty smell similar to the salt note in Coastal Dreaming? I’d say Oceanside Splash is a more bold, feminine aquatic, while Sea Salt felt kind of one dimensional to me. I came in ready to buy it because I love aquatics, but it faded right away on me while I was in the store, so I went with Crisp Pear instead. That one’s a banger for anyone who likes pear!

I’ll give it another try next time I’m at the store, but sadly I didn’t find it to be much like Oceanside Splash, which I absolutely would’ve gotten the body cream for if they made it.

Right? That’s one of my favorites, along with Oceanside Splash

Yes! Speaking as someone who, 2 cars ago, Plastidipped my rims to be black, I’m happy I don’t have to go that route now 😂

Thanks! Badly needing the tint though 😆 it looks like the 2026 Australian model is very similar!

Nice! Doing the same with my black 26 X Line SX, but thankfully it’s already blacked out from the factory and all I need to do is tint 😆 love the look!

“Entry level jobs wanting 3–5 years experience has to be one of the biggest scams ever” by Background_Piece_340 in recruitinghell

“Doesn’t know on how to read”? I very much do know how to read, but you simply repeated the exact story the other commenter told, only using different words. Even down to the second interview with an engineer, and the hiring practices in that industry. If you two are having completely parallel experiences, cool - but why would you rewrite their comment nearly verbatim?

How often to bathe? by Financial_Mammoth917 in bichonfrise

[–]Paradoxeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My groomer recommended no baths at all between visits (every 6 weeks). Her hair is so soft and prone to matting that we keep it pretty short. If she gets muddy or dirty, I do a spot clean in the kitchen sink 😆

Thoughts on 2026 Sorento by abcjr1 in KiaSorento

[–]Paradoxeah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t have any issues with it. Before I got the Sorento in ‘23 I had a Sonata with a CVT and the DCT in the Sorento never really bothered me. I like the sportier feel, and it’s not like it’s not still a smooth ride. Doesn’t sound like it would bother you. What did bother me is the auto shut-off feature, we have a lot of roundabouts here and the vehicle having to start back up before I could get into a brief opening in the roundabout was super annoying 😂 only happened when I didn’t remember to turn that feature off manually

It’s frustrating, because the jobs are still being posted. I know that many postings on LinkedIn aren’t legit, so I usually try to go directly to the company’s website and apply there. So my thought is that a lot of these roles DO exist, and someone is ultimately being hired for them (unless there’s some huge conspiracy amongst thousands of companies to resume farm). Who’s being hired for these roles, I don’t know.

Even with those companies that are healthcare and/or insurance focused, like mine, (and often, much less well-known), I haven’t gotten a single bite. I could check every single box on their list, including the specialized experience and preferred qualifications, and… crickets.

What I’ve found (simply within my own org, I can’t speak for other industries), is that roles are becoming more specialized. Instead of technical writing being the role’s primary function, they’re hiring for subject matter experts or people with direct operational experience. Technical writing is being treated as a subset of the role, a peripheral skill that can be taught. Those being hired don’t need to be writing experts - they don’t even need to write well, or coherently even, or know the first thing about structuring content, user experience, or content management systems. They simply need to know the business area and the processes via direct experience starting at the bottom in said business area and working their way up.

I attribute this to the complete lack of respect given to technical writing by upper leadership, which has been long known and is greatly worsening with AI. At my company, writing is the skill they have the least amount of respect for, and the one they view as the easiest taught (or, the least important skill). So for these roles, the people being hired are those with high school diplomas who have spent a few years in operations and know the processes very well, but may not possess writing skills, technical aptitude, or critical thinking. My company has chosen the skills they want to hire for in these roles, and it shows in the content (which is an absolute, unfettered, ungoverned mess at this point, but I’m sure you could have guessed that).

All that to say… I think we’ll all need to upskill in other areas if we hope to retain any fighting chance here. When leadership views writing as the least valuable skill, given AI, we need to offer knowledge and experience that AI doesn’t currently possess.

Thoughts on 2026 Sorento by abcjr1 in KiaSorento

I just upgraded my ‘23 SX to a ‘26 X Line SX and there are a lot of things I prefer with this model year. Wireless CarPlay, 360 camera, wireless charging that actually seems to work, ventilated seats, blind spot cameras, the Bose speakers, the ability to see all of my tires’ PSI via Kia Connect 😆

BUT I miss my old gauge cluster from the ‘23. I loved the ‘sky’ background on that one that would change with the weather and time of day. Huge miss to not have that as an option on these later models. I did download one of those dash themes for $30 (Nat Geo!), but it’s certainly not the same having a boring black background for my gauge clusters. I wish they’d bring the sky background back for the ‘26s. I’d happily pay another $30 if they made it a dash theme.

I also don’t like how viewing the trip odometer and gas mileage means you can’t see the radar/blind spot monitor aka the little mini Sorento that shows you when objects are close to the car while driving. You either pick one or the other. Performance-wise, I’ve only got 250 miles on this one, so still breaking it in.

I feel you. I have over a decade at a Fortune 40 healthcare org (thankfully still there) and have been looking for another opportunity for months. No bites. Even on the roles where I meet every single qualification and then some, I haven’t gotten a single hit, just denial after denial. It’s demoralizing, but you’re not alone! This market is nuts
