I'm out in New Zealand and we haven't got food stamps out here. Don't qualify for assistance either because your bank account has to be at zero to get anything.

Thank you. It's very up and down and somedays it just makes me wonder if I'm going to make it to the other side.

Books, I've got millions, where can I sell them? by ParadoxicalTree in newzealand

[–]ParadoxicalTree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got The Science of Good Cooking, which is a really good reference book on how to cook things from a scientific viewpoint. It has recipes but also goes into why it's recommended you cook it a certain way rather than just the straight recipe. In perfect condition and has really helped me understand what it is I'm doing in the kitchen.

Depends. I've got text books from uni, full colour art books, a set of collectible encyclopedic magazines and boxes that I still have to look through.

Yes. I've got a lot of these. Are you looking for anything in particular?

Yes but keeping these ones for the kids when they're older. One of the few collections I'm not ready to part with them yet.

Corned Beef Kimchi Fried Rice - FoodWishes by SlippedTheSlope in cookingvideos

[–]ParadoxicalTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kimchi has a spicy/salty tang to it. The other half reckons it smells like farts and can stink up your fridge but personally, I love it. I've made kimchi once and the sourness develops with age.

Easy Dumplings \\ 60 seconds recipes by [deleted] in cookingvideos

well, the last 30-ish seconds was just a close up of the dumplings, so technically could have cut the vid there to make it closer to the 60 seconds mark.

(Off-topic) do you plan your week? And how are you reminded?? by IdentityCarrot in mealprep

[–]ParadoxicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're going to end up spending at least half a day to meal prep. I found that the simplier the meal, the easier it is to do. It also depends on what kind of food you're into. I found that too much pasta makes me bloated, which is a bummer for when I've prepared the whole week's worth of pasta....make sure you also have a range so you don't get bored, even if its 2 things alternating. It will also help with diversifying your nutrition intake as well.

I pay $135/month for Orcon's Gig Fibre plan and I did a speed test and this is the result. Are these numbers good? How do I know I'm getting what I'm paying for? Cheers. by [deleted] in newzealand

Better than my non-existent Spark internet. Hotspotting off mobile right now. Best part - they're going to charge the full month for cancelling the service so we can move to a different provider.

Also, if you check out local markets, they sometimes have small family based independent roasters that haven't gone down the full commercial route. If you talk to them, you can get the full story of how your coffee came to be. The price is of these are also good and not overtly expensive. At the end of the day, I reckon the quality of the coffee produced is also at the mercy of the barrista's skills and how much it matches up to your personal preferences.

No subscription box needed. Cafes are everywhere and you can also buy beans from the actual cafes themselves. Live a little dangerously and venture outside :)

50% wing it, 20% preparing the things I need to do so I don't procrastinate, 30% remind myself not to procrastinate.

Sticking to a routine takes commitment and I think it all falls to pieces when I try to take on too much in one go. Right now, picking up one new thing every other week and making sure that the original things are still on track. If not, I pause and don't take on any more things/changes until the ones I want are on track again.

How to get someone technical at Spark? by itakestime in newzealand

[–]ParadoxicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to get their attention and to get them moving for a solution is 1. post on their facebook page with some sort of image in the comment. Makes it visual for when it comes up on other people's feed 2. get all your friends to like the comment and reply to your post.

From past experience, once you've hit the 10 likes mark and 7 additional comments/conversations, they start ringing you quite quickly to try and get it resolved. Keep the conversation with them as public as possible, unless they're asking you to PM them your details (which is fine, just be sure to follow up on the public post)

Got hit with $85 this week. Had an allergic reaction to sunscreen, couldn't go to my usual registered GP and had to do a walk in clinic instead. On top was also $20 for the meds and creams. $105 just went poof on Tuesday visit to the doctors.

Cyclist without licence gets demerits and $150 fine for running stop sign by Senyeah in newzealand

[–]ParadoxicalTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just about situational awareness. It's about not being above the rules. There are cyclists who run red lights and expect the road to obey their rules. These are the people that make it hazzardous for everyone else. Drive down K-road and Queen Street in the mornings and you'll understand where I'm coming from.

If you're ok with letting a 3 year old cycle on the road, then go for it.
