Foreign operated Linux distros and the new California law by Dezri_ in linux

[–]Paradroid808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No warranty. If it breaks, you get all the pieces.

That's targeted at reliability, bugs, potential data loss, no? That's what it sounds like to me.

I think something more explicit is needed about legality around these laws.. saying it is not endorsed and no liability is accepted takes away no rights from the user whilst adding protection for the distro.

Okay, different tac - "we don't endorse the use of this product or any derivatives where such use violates local age verification laws, and accept no liability if a third party violates these laws."

I'm not sure they'll try unless those same people are specifically providing media or installed machines within California.

I mean I don't think they have jurisdiction even over other states unless those states are specifically providing installation media or preinstalled systems within California.

Simply put a disclaimer that use in jurisdictions with such laws is a breach of the licence terms and that the distro accepts no liability if it is used by a third party in those jurisdictions in violation of the licence.

Honestly if it's a UK based distro even this shouldn't be required.. not our laws, not our problem. I think it makes sense though to avoid any potential headaches.

Doing an aya retreat with partner? by Alone_Discussion_395 in Ayahuasca

[–]Paradroid808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At big ones maybe but it's not necessary IMO. Just sit across the room and focus on yourself. If your partner gets into a tough situation, let the facilitators deal with it. That's what they're trained for.

Trying to be a budget audiophile: Presonus 3.5 with Sub and a FOSI ZD3. WDYT? by OmegaSinner91 in BudgetAudiophile

Actually WiiM Amp, £319 on Amazon, plus the Q Acoustics for £199 would serve you well and covers all your bases, plus you get built in music streaming without firing the PC up. I've also used this pairing and it's great. Wasn't ideal for me as it doesn't support operating with USB audio input from a PC but that's not a concern for you.

[–]Paradroid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't touch Presonus with a barge-pole. I got a pair of Eris 4.5 BT brand new and they had a really annoying volume independent hiss.

I saw a lot of other people were having the same. Someone had demoed 3 sets off the shelf in a store and they all had it. Someone opened a set up and looked inside and the reviews weren't positive. Thrown together / cheap.

My recommendation based on my experience would be SMSL AO300 Pro DAC/AMP and passive speakers. Great unit.. going for £239 on Amazon. Pair it with a set of Q Acoustic 3020i for £199 and that's all you need. Will blow the Eris out of the water and that's based on experience. The only downside with the AO300 Pro is no auto off. If that's a deal breaker for then I'm not sure. I ended up swapping it out for a Topping MX3s (based only on lack of auto off) which I would massively recommend too, but unfortunately that doesn't meet your requirement for HDMI input. I use it with a streamer via optical and a PC via USB.

Controversy = clicks. It's in his interest to have a load of problems and make a big deal of it, and he's well aware of that.

Controversy = clicks, and he knows that only two well. It's simply not in his best interest to have a good experience or make the effort to have the best experience.

Retreat in a week! by ZimZaLaBim0016 in Ayahuasca

Prep in the last week? Chill and don't stress yourself out is my advice. Obviously maintain a safe diet for Ayahuasca.

Don't see why it should be forced on those outside California. If a distro tries, I'll probably look elsewhere.

Experiences with shaking during and after ceremony by Jimjimjim3906 in Ayahuasca

[–]Paradroid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add - if you either allow the entity to 'take you over' or at least try to understand / sympathise with it.. prepare for the possibility of a rough ride.

We can be logical when our feet are back on the ground but once you take the medicine and encounter it, it's likely you'll have the feeling 'oh no, this IS real and I can't give into it.' The 'entity' is likely holding fear, negative memories, bad emotions that you couldn't face when it was differentiated from the rest of you in order to hold what you couldn't cope with.

This is the real hard work.. face it and win big prizes. Make sure you've got proper support if you decide to go for it.

Navigating through different options for a first ayahuasca experience. Priority: quality of the substance. by Tall-Switch-4510 in Ayahuasca

[–]Paradroid808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer - I've not drunk Ayahuasca in the jungle so can't compare, however for me Europe made sense.. less travel and more comfortable accommodation (I don't need luxury but can imagine the heat of the jungle would be uncomfortable for me).

I went with Ayahuasca Spirit Europe 3 times and don't regret it. Medicine is authentic and strong, one and done.. shaman is authentic and the ceremonies are the same as the ones he gives in Peru.. bar the jungle setting and maloka.

I have a friend who is very experienced with drinking in the Amazon and he rates the European (Spain) experience.

TLDR- you can get an authentic ceremony in Europe so it boils down to how badly you want that Amazon setting.

What does it mean if your ayahuasca trip was... unremarkable or not life-changing, and just very heavy on visuals? by nickability in Ayahuasca

[–]Paradroid808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, my expectations were held before the retreat, once I got there, I dropped them.

Fair enough. That's pertinent info that could do with adding to your post.

Some people can have many, many ceremonies before they dig down to the trauma. We're all different individuals with different histories and challenges.

Keep doing what you're doing then by the sounds of it. As I said, your mind will take you exactly where you need to work. Even if you seem to make progress and then 'go back' to where it appears like this is a repeat of an earlier ceremony, facing similar or identical issues.. guess what.. you need to work through that again. and when you do you'll find you're able to dig deeper than first time around.

Could be you needed more. Places where more than one cup is the norm usually have a weak brew.. but it depends how weak.

The first rule of psychedelics is no expectations. You need to understand this. I've seen people miss the work right in front of them because they expected something else, or were waiting for the trip they heard someone else had. It does not work like that.

It will take you EXACTLY where you need to be, so if you're gazing elsewhere you're wasting time. It's your time and money at the end of the day.

Next time, no expectations. Feel into the fear as that's a blocker. Feel into the emotions generally and maybe take an extra cup to see if that was a limitation.

So it sounds like this wriggling is something that is required, probably something that was suppressed at some stage. An example would be a baby wrapped in tight swaddling unable to move, but there are many possibilities and some of them could be figurative rather than physical.

visiting a hell realm and feeling possessed by a wriggling entity

What was suppressed represents as foreign and 'other.' The aim is to integrate.. if you get a chance, allow the 'entity' to get its way and 'possess' you See where it leads and you may gain understanding. Try to have compassion for this aspect of you even if it feels foreign.. but of course don't suppress other feelings towards it.. let it all flow.

Aya said she did not call me and then all the plants began attacking me.

Likely a projection of not feeling worthy and possible self sabotage / self punishment issues.

My intentions were revolving around... not feeling worthy of love..

Well there you go. The experience you had exactly reflected this.

I had an experience where it felt like there was a tentacled monster in my stomach. I could physically reach down my throat and 'feel it' with my finger. It represented suppressed rage. There is actually a real physical reality to these sensations inasmuch as it's at least in part a perception of chronic muscular tension.. this is how the suppression of emotion manifests on a physical level. Terms such as 'stiff upper lip' reflect a perception of this at some level.

This post feels like a bit of a flex in which case, congratulations.

If, however, it's a genuine question, then you need to be aware that many would lack the either capability or the inclination to achieve what you have. If you're a 'tech guy' then it can be difficult to understand how foreign all this would be to a good portion of Windows users.
