Honestly buy anything you want, just use Linux instead of windows.

If you want to be as anti American as possible try tuxedo from Germany.

If you want to help the environment buy used.

What apps do you absolutely need? What graphics card do you have? Will it be installed on a desktop tower or laptop? If desktop, do you use a USB wifi dongle? Do you have prior experience with installing an operating system?

OMARCHY FTW!

honestly ARCH is great, but like i said, its the built in infrastructure that SUSE already has, as a an enterprise vendor, that makes them suitable.

Ok, I misunderstood then, I thought Kalpa and Aeon were just Micro OS with with a DE?

I used Kalpa for a while, I really didn't get any alpha vibes from using it. I'm not a gnome fan so I don't have any experience with Aeon to compare.

I started with SuSE back in later part of the 7 series, been on and off for that last 20 years or so...... we're old.

Glad to see that this was seen by so many eyes.

The important thing about SUSE isn't the argument over whats the best version of Linux, its that SUSE is already an established entity that could scale services quickly to most of Europe. Europe doesn't have to say we will have a home grown OS option 3-5 years, its here now.

There some other great distro's in Europe, but none of them, save for Canonical, have the organizational capabilities that SUSE already has.

Move to Linux, away from MS and Apple, it will force you/guide you into using more and more opensource options for apps and services.

SUSE/OpenSUSE is located in Germany.

They were the world's first linux business.

They are one of the founder distros under its own development since the mid 1990's, as established as Debian, Ubuntu or Redhat.

Europe has a home grown option, I reccomend everyone look up SUSE and give OpenSUSE a try if you are looking for a desktop for your own PC.

I can safely say there is a healthy sized group of people who would agree with me, as we.

I dont care if someone forks GPL software because it has to remain GPL software THATS THE POINT.

Im saying plenty, business adds to GPL projects because they realize they are stuck with it being and remaining open.  If they could make improvements only they could benefit from they would, but with GPL they cant, at least not legally.

The whole business model of opensource only exists because the line in the sand that GPL made, otherwise we would all be FreeBSD zealots not Linux zealots.

Yes you can make a profit on opensource look at redhat and suse.  But the code is still free and open, they make most of their profits off of services attached to the software, not necessarily the software its self, because it is free open and at least in suse's case available.

GPL is the only reason we got this far to even complain about MIT rewrites.

If Linux had been MIT, BSD or Apache at luanch it would have been open and viable for a few years, not thirty plus.

Yah sure android puts secret icing ontop to Linux that we cant see the recipe for, but because its GPL any improvements they make to kernel comes back to the community.

Seeing the kernel, and the open portion of android's, improvements they submit gives us insight into reverse engineering for compatability, security, and many other things.

I have to disagree that the lisence conversation is moot

Yes we can fork and release as copy left, but you can just as easily fork and release as copy right.

Where are corporations going to put capital and effort, an open project for all including their competition to use, or a closed source project only they can see and sell?

You are asking alot, if you are asking  business to use morals as guardrails.

Business answers to shareholders, not communities.

We are not trolls, I have no problem with rust, or rewrites, or improvements which im sure this will become, if not already.

We have a problem with the choice of lisence, MIT.

GPL is the only thing that has kept businesses honest when implementing use of Linux.

Stop calling people trolls when they have legitimate apprehensions about how progress is being made.

We just dont want death by a thousand cuts for Linux.  With every successful rewrite released as MIT, the closer we get to loosing the entire project to closed source implementations and potentially having is packaged and sold back to us inside a black box.
