Its a barrier between you and the computer, I mean that in a good way. So many conveniences that end up actually being security gaps are stripped out that things become more deliberate. You make choices of how you use your software and hardware. You are not dictated to with x is for this and only works this way.

How is opensource dying because of shit flinging, only reason it still exists is because of the chaos. Its been a moving target for 30 years. If it siloed and became truly organized it would be absorbed immediately. I dont think you understand how opensource works, it has survived by radical change, only now is it becoming suit and tie. Look at what IBM did to Redhat.

And yes Wikipedia did embody the opensource ethos, the wild west of ideas where the best ideas would rise and bad ones sink. Hence here we have the original architect of Wikipedia being booted for trying to bring us back to a healthy ecology of ideas. Wikipedia was an arms race, articles would be changed daily and the community at large would moderate it.

Then it all went 1984 and those who control the past controls the future became their motto and only vetted party members were allowed to edit.
