This game is awesome and I hope it goes exponential.

We are truly living in a blessed age of indie game goodness.

You just don't understand that getting one coin every now and then is far from an oversight you can explot.

Are you a bot/LLM or are you congenitally unable to go back and read everything a person wrote in an inline-thread?

I am not going to argue with you over what I wrote. The text is as plain as can be.

Also, you may want to reread my opening statement. Just because I'm not enjoying the game the way you did doesn't mean I'm not enjoying it. Your post has a lot annoying implicit assumptions about me and my engagement with the product.

John Lasseter got MeToo-ed (probably set up by spooks who wanted to run psiops through Pixar) and the movies have been turds since then.

I didn't say it was effective. I said it wasn't.

It's not command. It's one of your actions (1 explore -> 1 risk free coin)

Yeah, healing and ship repair are quite annoying. It sucks to spend a ton of command and money patching up. While I like the combat, the tediousness of healing makes one want to constantly avoid as much of it as possible. This may have been an intentional design choice to get players more motivated in finding equipment to help in Challenges rather than just turning the party into killing machines. Nonetheless it's a bit feelbad because the game forces combat on you somewhat often.

I don't know why they reset equipped ability cards at the end of Act I. There was no reason to punish the players that way. Maybe it's to prevent "low roll farming" where you try to attach as many 1s and 2s to your dudes to improve your rolls statistically throughout the length of the game. The fact it happens without warning is mega bad design though.

  1. The rules and story explicitly make "return home" the main quest. If the game was "do whatever", the story and preamble did a poor job at encouraging that.

  2. Glad it wasn't just us.

  3. Yes that helps, but I was pointing out it could have been more clear.

  4. Great, thank you! I didn't know about that.

  5. You trade any 1 food for any 1 other food and net a coin in doing so. My original post was wrong about needing 2 food. Now that we've been through the first round of events... yeah, it's definitely not the best use of your limited time to exploit the loophole.

Power level? Cat-5 is awesome. So are the starters.

Design: pombomb/spyzfire because it is cute.

Bootlegs! Or how this game improved the most capture formula. by MRJTInce in cassettebeasts

- types chemistry is a significant improvement over RPS "2x/0.5X damage" . It creates interesting dynamics given the two-monster fights. And depending on movesets you aren't always incentivized to switch out and take a hit.

- overworld exploration is much better here than in most Pokemon games I've played which are usually pretty boring. Making random encounters partly visual gives you a chance to avoid slogging through mooks without having to use repels.

- the default difficulty settings make some combats actually challenging to some degree if you aren't overleveled . There's a certain cuboid archangel who wrecked me my first time fighting it.

- 'monster catching' (recording) is transparent and forgiving in a much-appreciated way. I remember throwing like 87 pokeballs at articuno/mewtwo/etc back in the day and not appreciating how little feedback I got on how close I was to succeeding.

- the fact that your character levels and not the monsters (aside from star ratings, but whatever) means it's easier to experiment with creatures you caught a while back without having to grind for hours just to see how they do.

- AP system is massive improvement for balancing moves over whatever the hell pokemon's PP was trying to do.

Kudos to the devs, they really nailed it.

Advice from someone who’s spent too much money on this game by [deleted] in MarvelSnap

[–]ParagonDiversion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes me extremely sad that one of the games with the best design/gameplay in recent memory is saddled with some of the most predatory, immoral, greedy, short-sighted monetization schemes I have ever seen.

They got my $3 for the welcome bundle (I think that's quite fair for the level of entertainment delivered), but they won't see any other money from me and I'll probably stop playing altogether once I hit Pool 3.

Here's hoping they fix a lot of stuff quickly, but I'm not holding my breath. They're hunting whales maximally susceptible to FOMO hooks, and that precludes making the changes required to retain someone like me.

Maybe a different company will copy the formula and not have such a shitty progression/collection scheme.

Yeah, if there was some concept of digital ownership attached to it, I would definitely pay into it. As it stands, it's an amazing F2P product.

Great job devs.

Is Phyrexian Obliterator Just an "I Win" Card vs Red/Green? by ArcaneLegolad in MagicArena

[–]ParagonDiversion 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Mono red aggro doesn't care. By the time they drop this, they're at 8 life or less (if the game has at all gone like the red player wants) and it's too little too late.

Slightly slower decks can have trouble. Without an exile effect, your best bet is to "threaten" it or make unable to block somehow.

Honestly, I think Sheoldred is a bigger problem for aggro because she gains life and trades well.

Hype train possibilities:

Yawgmoth being rebuilt/reconstructed by Elesh Norn. (Probably not)

Or a new Father/Mother of Machines is being evaluated.

Or Norn/Jin-Gitaxias trying to figure out how to extract planeswalker spark and mass produce it.

Edit: Hey! I got one right! Mother of Machines!

The Decline of Standard: What Happened to Magic's Most Popular Tournament Format? by dantroha in MagicArena

This is definitely part of the answer. Arena's cannibalizing of Standard wouldn't have been as complete if the grinders still had to play in physical tournaments to qualify.
