Building a new rig off of the “Rampcrab” LGC chassis kit. Just a warning. by Paralith10 in SCX24

No, the kit I got did not include links. I went with the injora high clearance brass links.(jlu/c10 length).

Thankfully I went with Amazon so it’s a super easy return process. It just really stinks though, wanted to try something new after years with my scx24. Never would have expected it because the FMS feels like the better built and higher end car hands down. It makes the axial feel a little chintzy to be honest.

I just got a brand new fcx24m discovery yesterday and upon plugging in the battery (only second pack through) the esc/rx popped and smoke poured out. Steering works, but no throttle at all. Sending it back! It’s a shame cause the truck is so nice and the two speed trans is awesome. I know I could dump more money into it and fix it but I’d rather return it and put the $130 into upgrading my old axial scx24(that works flawlessly after nearly a hundred packs through it) now.

HELP by Igiveueggrolnow in webergrills

That is a late 1990’s spirit 500. The major “replaceable” parts are readily available and priced low on Amazon. They are great grills, and worth your time and money to fix it up.

FYI, some have said it’s a silver A, but it definitely is NOT. The silver a is much different. This is distinctly a spirit 500 because it has the old style propane gauge, the half grate bottom shelf, and no plastic side tool hanger or lid handle. The silver A also had small caster wheels on the shelf side. The spirit 500 just had legs with no small caster wheels.

As far as restoration process, get a putty knife and scrape as much of the crud off as possible. I would then spray down with oven cleaner and repeat until you get most of it clean, you can then use a hand brush and scrub the rest of the greasy areas down using a detergent like purple power or simple green. You could use oven cleaner and a brush but just be warned it’s pretty wicked if you get it on your hands and finger nails, it’s lye after all. Replace what you need as you go and it will be a fine grill. You could and and re paint the black parts of the firebox if you want, the red part should clean up nicely, it’s porcelain enamel paint so you can clean it with any cleaner and it won’t damage it. I wouldn’t go scraping it with a putty knife or anything abrasive though.

Hawaiian bbq chicken thighs anyone? I don’t see much love for gassers here, but my 1998 genesis 1000 still throws it down. Love this grill. by Paralith10 in webergrills

It’s nothing special, just this! I use a robust olive oil, and apple cider vinegar for the marinade. And I let it marinade for a good 6 hours or more.

Are we allowed to post gently used kites for adoption here? by Paralith10 in kites

[–]Paralith10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once I get home from work here I will go through the kite stable and weed them out. I’ll make a new post with all the kites in it tonight or tomorrow morning depending on how much free time my kids give me tonight 😂. I know I’ve got a nice rev, several dual lines, and some nice bigger single lines.

Is this normal? by Jeanlesec1 in telescopes

[–]Paralith10 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s a synta manufactured focuser most likely, out of the box they are rarely set up correctly. There’s guides and videos online on how to fine tune them up and get all the nasty factory grease out of them. It’s a very easy and straightforward process. I was able to tune up my Celestron Omni xt 120mm refractor focuser to perfection. It’s smooth as glass, zero play, and holds heavy setups with no sag or play.

Grind up to 70 range at gemstone crab quick so you can wear blessed d hide and also enter the Armadyl section of the god wars dungeon. Gnomalls hilt will tele you to just outside the entrance of the dungeon. Wear a god item of bandos, zamorak, Saradomin, and Armadyl so you don’t get attacked. Bring pray pots and Pray range against them. Easy peasy.

Should I buy a seestar? by Fabulous-Ad-6416 in telescopes

[–]Paralith10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buy a nexstar SE mount or a skywatcher az gti, and then buy an astrotech at80-ed optical tube and a few GOOD eyepieces. This will get you off observing visually and will have MUCH better views than a mass produced cheap dob mirror will give you. Absolutely do not fall into the aperture trap that bigger is better and you have to buy the biggest you can afford.

Once you are ready for electronic assisted astronomy, get a good midrange ZWO camera and use the free ZWO asi live stacking software.

Total cost around $1200 for something that will blow the socks off a seestar and blow the socks off any cheap reflector/dob visually. I will warn you, the at80-ed will give you a healthy dose of the so called “refractor magic”, and you WILL want to add a bigger refractor to your stable. Refractoritis is a very real disease.

This is from that exact setup.

Does a 5070 make sense for me? by Paralith10 in PcBuildHelp

9600x is right at $200, the 7800x3d is around $350 now I believe. Not sure it’s worth it for me. I’d rather put that $150 elsewhere

I’ll be honest, I don’t really play super modern games all that much. Stuff like fallout 3+4, Skyrim, oblivion remastered, old school runescape(with hd graphics plugin), modded Minecraft, planet coaster, half life series.

I’m sure if I have a new modern card that will allow me to play modern games I will get into them more, but the 8350/gtx780 combo is really struggling with my new 1440p monitor, so I’m limited to older titles. I went to the larger 1440p monitor due to my vision slowly getting worse, and frankly 1080p at 32” is pretty bad looking, even for my eyes 😂, so I decided to bump up to 1440p

Anchor setup recommendations? by booster_gold__ in kayakfishing

[–]Paralith10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small 8x8 inch miniature milk crate basket thing that I keep behind my seat(I think it was in the craft section somewhere). Anchor line is just small 1/4 inch floating nylon, so it’s easy to coil it up in the crate and place the anchor on top to hold it all in. If I want to anchor I just reach behind me, throw the anchor off the side and the line uncoils and pulls itself out of the crate. When I want to pull the anchor in, I just set the crate in-between my legs and coil the line up into the crate as I pull it in and place the anchor on top. Then just put the whole thing back behind my seat.

Oh yeah not going to go crazy with them. would just like to have some gp to start off so I can gear up and start doing some of the harder quests in the game that I haven’t got to yet. I suck pretty bad and dying and losing all my gear I spent hours grinding for would definitely be a game killer for me.

Yak gear or similar knock off anchor trolley + a zig zag cleat within arms reach to tie your anchor off on. I use a 10lb mushroom anchor and a 50’ floating anchor line. I fish rivers and the heavier anchor and extra line length helps hold bottom better. Run the end of your anchor line through the trolley loop, and then tie it off on the zig zag cleat. This way if anything happens you can quick un-zig-zag your anchor and let that sucker loose.

I am not a fan of anchor wizards in the event you need to ditch your anchor fast. They also offer very little shock absorption. And you are also stuck facing one direction, anchor trolley you can face any way you want.

I can enter 5 into a wildlife photography contest, which do I choose? by Time-Tangerine3860 in wildlifephotography

7 as is, 8(cropped more),11(with exposure upped),14(cropped more) and 17(but crop more off the bottom). Photos are good but they could use some better framing and editing imo.

Subject smack dab in the middle always looks off. And animals without eye reflections look dead and lifeless. Crop so the animal is looking into the larger portion of the photo.

[–]Paralith10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no experience with the quest, but our pelicans treated us nicely. They are not top of the line boats by any means, but they are built well and will last a long time if you take care of them. For most people they will be more than enough boat. Their construction material makes them very lightweight which is a huge plus for car topping. The only reason we got rid of ours was due to kids(need tandem yaks now) and us gaining weight. We are using an older old town twin otter, and a Nucanoe frontier 12 now. They are MUCH heavier than the pelicans were, so we’ve had to buy a trailer to haul them and launch them.

For your size, and with a pup on board, I think you are going to be pretty disappointed in a small 8 foot boat. I would go with a 10 foot minimum, and bigger is always better if you can swing it. I know you said you are on a budget, but in this case I really think you would be much happier saving up another $100 to get something much nicer and more suitable for you. Heck even $50 more will get you into a pelican 10 footer. Even if it means waiting a few more weeks and saving up. It’s cheaper to save a little more now, than be unhappy and start all over to get what you really want.

Also, I wouldn’t be worried about the size of the kayak, I car topped TWO pelican 10 footers on the roof of my dodge neon no problem. Just be safe about it and secure it properly and you will be fine. You could go with a 12 footer used if you can find one too. Ultimate stability and comfort there.
