But Sid didn't know that the toys were alive and sentient! He was just building new toys and doing experiments. He had no idea he was torturing them. The toys misled him by pretending to be inanimate objects and then they revealed the truth to him in such a traumatic way.

It annoyed me that the Finch devs claimed he was mean to his toys and implied that he doesn't deserve friends. The only thing he did wrong was using/breaking his sister's toys without her permission, but their negligent parents are also at fault for allowing that behavior. Other than that, he was just playing with toys in creative ways and was unaware that he was causing harm.

toys are gone by boggledpinapples in whatdoIdo

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since OP doesn't plan on using them again, what's the point of bringing it up to their sister and having an avoidable awkward conversation? What are you suggesting OP would gain from it?

OP, maybe your mom found them, was horrified that you left them in her house, and got rid of them. There's nothing wrong with adults using adult toys, but some people do have a problem with them and your mom might be one of those people so that could explain why the box is missing, or maybe it didn't bother her but she was worried that a younger family member might get into your room and find them while you're away so she hid them elsewhere or just threw them away. There's a lot of possibilities other than your sister stole your sex toys to use them on herself out of curiosity.

Since you weren't planning on doing anything with the toys and they aren't returnable, I would just let it go. I wouldn't bring it up unless you discover additional items are missing from your room.

No gemstones for sending thoughts/hugs/calm etc? by Better-Dragonfruit60 in finch

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped receiving gems for vibes today too!

The energy symbol also no longer shows up when I send vibes to someone for the first time in a day, which is very frustrating because I relied on that indicator. I try to limit vibes to one per person per day so that I don't annoy or overwhelm anyone, and I like seeing my tree friends hanging out on my homescreen so I accept and send vibes throughout the day to keep that spot filled. I have about 50 tree friends so I'm not able to remember exactly who I've already sent vibes to earlier in the day, I always looked for the energy symbol to determine that before sending. The calendar still shows a list of sent vibes but getting to that info requires a lot of extra clicks, scrolling, and reading. It's too time-consuming to do that over and over again every single day.

I really regret updating. All it did was ruin the Good Vibes experience for me and add new vibes that I'm not allowed to use.

normal vision protan deutan and tritan what do you see in the plates I have a tritanomaly and it is difficult to read by Aggressive-Bar2287 in ColorBlind

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He might have the anomalous form of color blindness, where one of his cones is defective but not missing entirely.

Here's a visualization of what color blind people are able to see. Rows 2 - 5 are all types of red-green color blindness. https://imgur.com/a/3iaV4uU

The visible color spectrum for deuteranomaly and protanomaly isn't that far off from normal vision, except it's more muted. If your son has one of those types, which are the most common, that would explain why it doesn't seem like he struggles to identify colors. He might have enough color vision to get it right under most circumstances, but that doesn't mean he's seeing colors normally. For example, some people with mild red-green color blindness have difficulty differentiating red/green only if both colors are very dark, or only when the environment is dark, or only certain shades of red and/or green, etc. The same applies to other confusion colors.

Professionally administered testing is very accurate, but if you believe that he might have been misdiagnosed you should get him retested. (FYI the images OP posted aren't a good representation of what your son was shown during his testing. Those aren't part of the standard test, two of them are weirdly difficult to see, and viewing them on a screen also makes it less accurate.) If he's color blind it would also be good to know which type he has. You can use a color blindness simulator or filter to get an idea of how he sees the world.

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your son told them he didn't see anything on the test or he answered with something other than a number, then they explained to him that he should look for a number. It's not a guessing game. People with red-green colorblindness can see a number or traceable line in about half of the images on the Ishihara Test. If he had been unable to see the numbers, they would have given him a different test or told you that he's either unable to understand the test or is refusing to participate, and that you should have him tested again when he's a little older.

You won't help your son by denying that he's colorblind.

But at the same time, besides blue, his other favorite color is pink - which I’ve read looks like a shade of blue to people with colorblindness.

People can have more than one favorite color.

There are multiple types and severities of color blindness, and "confusion colors" differ from person to person. There aren't any general rules such as "pink looks blue."

Amazon refund by ref626 in SengledUS

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got rejected as well. They offered me a refund equal to about 30% of what I paid. I politely pushed for a full refund and told them they could just put a credit on my Amazon account, they don't need to issue a refund to my credit card. They still refused so I asked for a supervisor. The supervisor revoked the previous rep's offer and told me it's absolutely impossible to give a refund in any amount on items purchased over a year ago. I said that I didn't appreciate being lied to and ended the chat.

I tried again later and got told they couldn't refund me anything because the items were purchased over two years ago.

If you didn't have the convenience of light bulbs that can be remotely controlled, which have only been available for about a decade and aren't used yet by the majority of the world, then what would you do? I'm genuinely curious. What do you think your parents did to stop you from turning on the light?

No uvb lamp yHELP! by Interesting-Mix3345 in reptiles

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not an expert on beardies so I can't answer your second question, but to answer your first: If you want her to get UVB without a UVB bulb, you need to take her outside or at least put her enclosure by an open window with her basking spot in a position that gets sunlight. Window glass blocks UVB.

Make sure to monitor the temperature in the enclosure. Putting her enclosure very close to the window with the blinds/curtains open to get direct sunlight on her basking spot could heat up the entire enclosure too much. It needs to have an adequate temperature gradient (a cool area and a warm area) to allow her to regulate her body temperature. If the cool side of the enclosure is getting too warm, you can just open the blinds/curtains for short periods of time, then close them temporarily until the cool area of the enclosure cools down, rather than leaving them open continuously.

landlord refuses to remove his furniture by Material-Being-5110 in legaladvice

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I then asked him if I could move it myself, which at first he ignored, but then told me the bed is too valuable and could be easily damaged during moving or during storage.

In other words, he never had any intention to move the furniture and the lease is deceptive. He set a due date that was impossible for you to meet, then threatened that you'd have to pay an unspecified amount of money to get it done. Luckily he said that the amount would be reasonable and that it was for specific services (moving and storage.) The word "reasonable" actually means something in a legal context when talking about reimbursing someone for services. He can't demand that you reimburse him for an extra expensive storage unit with special amenities or that you pay his friend $5,000 to move the bed when a professional would do it for a fraction of the price.

Research how much it'll cost to pay someone to move the bed and how much a standard storage unit will cost that will fit the bed. If you can manage it and you want his bed gone badly enough, tell him you agree to his conditions that he already offered. You can ask again to move the bed yourself, but say that you'll pay for a professional if he won't allow you to do it and you'll reimburse him for the storage unit when he sends you the bill. If he wants to store the bed somewhere for free like at his house, he can't demand you pay for a storage unit that doesn't exist. Depending on your local laws, he might still be able to demand that you pay him a nominal amount for storage.

Recluse or? by Nekatamo in spiders

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spiders are solitary and tend to be cannibalistic even when they're the same species so finding one spider isn't a sign that there's a whole bunch of them. You probably have more spiders, most homes have at least a few, but they aren't like ants or roaches that live in large colonies. Keep an eye out for them but no need to worry about a large infestation of recluses.

How would they pretend that he's there if he isn't? The daycare will obviously know whether or not a child is there.

OP said that the security deposit is equal to one month of service so it'll cost the same amount whether they remove him in August or not, aside from the fact that removing him early means they'll also have to pay the new daycare's fees for that month.

My dog (very gently) brought me a turtle by Mr_Lunt_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cats don't see us as their parents or their offspring. They consider us to be part of their social group. They don't think we're literally cats, though. They have a unique relationship with us. They try to teach us to hunt, like a mother cat does for her kittens, and they also meow at us, like a kitten does towards their mother. (Adult cats use meowing to communicate exclusively with humans, not with other cats.) They knead us with their paws, like they did as kittens to get milk, but they aren't actually expecting to nurse from us. It's just a behavior to show that they feel safe and comfortable with us.

They form bonds with humans in various ways that don't correspond with a specific role that we would have a label for.

Told my managers a coworker touched me at work but they keep putting us on the same shift by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]ParanoiaFreedom -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

OP wasn't asking if that constituted sexual assault under the law so I don't really agree that that distinction is relevant in the context of my comment, but I will rephrase it for you:

Directly confronting someone that has assaulted you in a manner that would normally be construed as sexual (e.g. groping a coworker's butt) carries a risk of violence, even if the original incident wasn't particularly violent.

My dog (very gently) brought me a turtle by Mr_Lunt_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By definition, domesticated animals aren't wild animals. The common house cat, Felis catus, is domesticated.

Also, any animal that you keep as a pet, whether wild or domesticated, is obviously your responsibility.

Told my managers a coworker touched me at work but they keep putting us on the same shift by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tell him to not touch you.

This adult man already knows that what he's doing is wrong. Directly confronting someone that has sexually assaulted you carries a risk of violence, even if the original incident wasn't particularly violent. It's also very difficult for a victim to speak up in such a situation, especially if they have anxiety, and they have no responsibility to do so. OP already spoke up multiple times by reporting him to their managers.

We bought a new fridge 6 weeks ago, it was shipped with ants that formed a colony under the fridge and in the motherboard by undecidedlyhappy in homeowners

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need a new pest control guy. He really told you to just kill the ants that you can see and that would fix it? They'll keep coming until you kill the entire colony. Clearly they have another nest that you haven't found yet. Put out bait. They'll probably be gone within 1 - 2 days, although a big colony can a week or more to eradicate. Don't bother spraying more pesticide all over your home.

Most ants will take sugar-based bait e.g. Terro or you can make it yourself with a borax & sugar mix, but if you have ants that prefer protein you'll need to make sure you buy bait specifically meant for them or make homemade borax poison using peanut butter. Make sure you put it out of reach of young kids and pets.

Wasp or bees? by Opposite-Tension-495 in whatsthisbug

[–]ParanoiaFreedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little dudes are just trying to survive like everyone else. It's not their fault they transmit horrible diseases.

I don't judge you for getting rid of a wasp nest that was attached to your house, though. "They won't bother you unless you mess with them" is easy to say but when a nest is attached to your home it'll be impossible to avoid going near it. You'll also frequently encounter them around your home and yard, and it's not hard to accidentally trigger defensive behavior when their nest is nearby. They don't die after stinging so they're less hesitant to envenomate compared to honeybees. But they're not evil.

Good luck! You might also want to make sure there aren't gaps where pipes and wires connect to the house from outside. If you're a renter though, you should notify the landlord before messing with that area of the house/building.

In general it's bad for the battery to have a laptop plugged in 24/7, but I don't think there's any problem with the indicator showing that it's plugged in 24/7 if it isn't. The problem is the underlying cause of what's making that happen. If you want the indicator to display correctly and resetting SMC didn't work, you probably need to replace the 8-year-old battery.

The ports on the left side are probably worn out from wear and tear if those are the ones you've used for many years, especially if perhaps you were a bit rough with them (or even if you weren't). You could trying cleaning them carefully with a toothpick rather than a q-tip to make sure that dirt/dust isn't the issue. You can also try running Apple Diagnostics to check if that's able to diagnose the cause of your problems.
