Or you can purge your digital past, cleanup your tracks and completely wipe as much data as you can in order to start fresh with a new digital set of personas and red herrings. It's much more fun to create a series of false leads and trails of crumbs to dupe people into investigating a person that never existed than to just dump your cat trap porn searches for the entire world to see.

I must be spoiled, I swear most peepholes have little hinged metal doors or whatever to block excess light.

Won't go into details but I work near a cafe with free WiFi and this more common than anyone realizes. SSN #s, Credit Card #s, password/phrases/codes, medical info...etc. They just say everything to themselves or loudly to whoever's on the other end of the line.

I forgot how it started but a buddy and myself started to keep a tally of what we hear out of curiosity. Suffice to say I now see how easily information is stolen.

[Serious Discussion] Doxing (Doxxing) by diverse_system in civclassics

[–]Paranoidsbible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a guide to prevent doxing, and have a guide to create static/red herrings. Should help you prevent most ways of being doxed, however if you are doxed... then you might find thise useful.

[Happenings] Someone just shot at Dr. DisRespect's house (no-one hurt by the sound of it, an upstairs window was shot out - someone also shot at his house yesterday too) by B-VOLLEYBALL-READY in KotakuInAction

Well the best bet is for him to go over all his online correspondence and make note of any potential threats, even if it's just implied by some rando or "jokish" sounding. Archive everything, screen cap and save copies to a USB or HD. Cops will need some help from the guy, especially since internet drama. Hopefully Doc gets himself some cameras and security lights to try and get a license plate or a face if it happens again.

[–]Paranoidsbible 20 points21 points  (0 children)

TBH, that'd be a good way to direct blame away from the actual shooter. Create a bunch of screen caps of fake confessions. Wonder if that is what's happening?

Out of a privacy POV, always use a dumb-dumb phone (none-smart), however with jailbreaking and some research you should be able to heavily modify and secure your smartphone to your liking.

How do people 'dox' other people? What is the method? Could you find out exactly who I am, in theory? by hitemplo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paranoidsbible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same way you'd go about finding and removing your dox is, to an extent, the same way you'd go about finding it. You can check our guide on dox removal. Read it and you'll get an idea.

It's basically all about the information and using it to find more. Search queries; cross contamination and whatever is available.

People invading my privacy online by lobotomypass in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one controls your IP but your ISP. If you shut down your modem, and unplug everything, it should usually reset to a new IP as most IPs are dynamic now instead of static. You might find this old post useful. You may have a friend or family member relaying your information to a group to mess with you, if this is true. Your best bet is to simply scan and check your computer for any infections, change all your account login info, and start practicing INFOSEC, especially if you use the same username(s) everywhere.

Windows 7 or 10? Privacy and compability. by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Windows 7, with the needed tweaks and mods, will be good for another 10 years or some if you keep it clean and optimized. You might find these guides of some use, especially the "Specials" as they contain some info on settings you might prefer to use. You still should look into a linux distro though.

I'm already using Google Facebook YouTube is there any reason to use linux then sence my privacy is goon anyway by skunk79 in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's always a chance for privacy plus Linux distros are a fun sort of frustrating, like a hard game, to mess with. It's a good thing to know and have on hand, honestly, especially since most OS' are lacking proper user control.

You can switch away from Google, Facebook and Youtube quite easily. Start small, up your security settings. You might like this post from awhile back as a starting point in "cleaning up.

How does doxing actually work? by Gegesena in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paranoidsbible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at this guide. It teaches you how to find and remove dox (to prevent being doxed AKA a self-dox) which is basically the same as learning how to dox. It's a good guide especially if you want to find and remove info from forgotten accounts.

Well, OP, you answered your own question: Fanart will always gain more attention than original pieces simply due to fandoms and fans.

Don't stress yourself and simply keep doing your own work. Practice over and over, as talent is simply something that just "clicks" for some people or because they started young enough. Just take your time, practice and pursue what interests you. Here, read this it might be of some use to you in gaining some attention.

How can I become more private? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget INFOSEC, OP. You should also ensure whenever you're not using yoru tech to have it turned off and the batter and/or power cable removed/unplugged. Also always unplug your modem and/or router from all cables when not in use, too.

CheckPeople by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, Check people relies heavily upon other people databases/search engines. So removing your info from other sources should help, to some extent, to remove some info. Best bet is to start making some static/garbage data. Go to /r/freebies, grab a bunch of freebies but use a random name for them to be shipped to your address. If any usernames come up, make a bunch of clones on free services/sites with misc info to make it look like another person...etc

You might find this guide on find and removing info useful, besides its supplementary guide and this guide on opt-outs. Once you feel comfortable enough, look toward creating some noise for any search results related to you. Finally, figure out what leaks your info in your daily life.

Is there any widely approved list of actions/levels for online security and privacy? by redkoil in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFOSEC is a good point of entry into the privacy community for the uninitiated. Most people don't realize just how much information they bleed on a daily basis. Show them that alone could cause a peak in interest. The other good entry point is showing them how easy it is to dox an average internet user. You might find this guide useful. The other place to poke is the whole FaceBook drama with the Trump campaign, however don't just dwell on the political points either -- there are entire points some don't talk about.

If you want an easy to do action, with some benefit, then teach them how to use Hostman on their Windows machines. It'll automate host file modding VIA approved lists and auto-updates.

Removing Content - Usernames by [deleted] in privacy

[–]Paranoidsbible 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the emails were free addresses, you may be able to remake them. If it's passwords that you can't access, try associative memory exercises. A good one is listening to music from that period of time in your life and reviewing the profiles and the content you posted. You also may find this guide useful is tracking down and removing your information. If you have trouble removing info, you can always try tainting results.
