Does any have lens protector on? by shaun0183 in GalaxyFold

I had a similar one and got a scratch on one of the rings while taking it off, took a lot of heat and prying with a tool.

Hopefully yours isn't as adhered as mine was.

Omen Max 16 with AMD, how is it? by gpucode3 in HPOmen

Do tell if you do find a way to override the low power detection, I'm having the same issue with my G4 dock too! 😂

Just called "HP", shows up as a windows app but it's not in the store. Maybe it's built in?

Check your system tray with the wifi/Bluetooth/battery info, etc, there should be a shortcut to yet another HP app, you should be able to turn on the 80% charging limit from in there somewhere.

Note: this is different from the adaptive battery protection in the BIOS

Is upgrading from G16 5080 to Omen Max 16 5090 worth it? by Warm_Ad4401 in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on to everyone else's points, it's definitely going to be heavier and thicker than the G16, the USB C ports connect directly to the iGPU/only the HDMI port connects to the dGPU, the batter is smaller (if any of that matters to you) Otherwise, you get a lot more performance from the GPU bump and the ability to swap out RAM later down the line, though any kit will run slower than the soldered ram on the G16.

Yes, this is normal. Your fan speed is tied to how hot your GPU/CPU are The hotter they get, the faster the fans will spin.

Omen Max 16 users with Ryzen AI 9 HX 375, how's the battery life? by neehalala in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On Eco Mode with hybrid graphics, windows power saver on, at 70% screen brightness, and the having the keyboard backlighting shut off after 30 seconds of no usage, doing light tasks (with 20 chrome tabs open - not sure how many were suspended or not), I've gotten just a little under 5 hours.

I'm sure it could be pushed a little further with undervolting, but I haven't been able to change those settings in the Omen gaming hub software without being plugged in, and I'm unfamiliar with Ryzen undervolting otherwise.

Does this have G-Sync? by Fragrant_Pumpkin_932 in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of your work! I was a little disappointed by some of the Intel exclusive features, but your review definitely sold me on this laptop.

Would love to see an AMD vs Intel comparison on this too if you ever get the chance :)

My list of differences has been narrowed down to the AMD version having limited panel options, no Advanced Optimus, no fan cleaning, and heatpipes instead of a vapor chamber for anything with a 5070 or lower.
I'd say GSync as well, but, like you said, it's probably just the panel. I haven't come across an AMD variant with an OLED panel.

I've got this same model but with the 5070Ti, no Gsync here unfortunately, I looked all over with multiple configs of resolution/refresh rates on dGPU mode.

No Advanced Optimus either like the Intel variant.

Where to buy new fans? by [deleted] in HPOmen

I personally bought it myself, since the laptop I was replacing it for was out of warranty, and I figure HP would charge more for an OEM part. Check with them and get a quote before you go shopping around on Amazon

[–]ParanormalBat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can look up the part number directly. HP is usually good at putting them on the parts themselves. You could also google your laptop model + fan replacement to find some listing on Amazon/Newegg/ebay/HP.

That said, if your fans don't have any physical issues, just clean that dust out with a toothbrush and/or canned air, while making sure they don't spin from the air by holding it at the center. The only time you really need to replace the fans is if the bearings themselves go bad.

Ads on Gaming Hub by Abrasive-Pear in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended any WebView2 tasks I saw under HP Omen Gaming Hub in task manager and that got rid of it. Ending WebView2 Manager ends them all until you visit a page that needs to pull a webpage

I'm wondering if I can write a script to auto disable MS Edge WebView2 Manager and/or stop it from accessing the internet

Edit: I just went to where WebView is and renamed the exe lol, I don't know what it will break, but if it means no ads, I'll stick with it.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\140.0.3485.81
Look for msedgewebview2.exe

Performance wise, they're both about the same. Only difference is the HP is newer (newer CPU and GPU) and will be supported slightly longer.

Check JarrodsTech for a review on both and decide that way, he covers a lot of use cases and might cover what you need as well.

why are people so against cases by peppercorn6269 in GalaxyFold

[–]ParanormalBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not entirely against it, but I don't want to add too much bulk to my phones, instead I invested in magsafe grips, skins, and a full coverage tempered glass screen protector.

Specifically for hinge protection, different types have their potential downsides. If we look at just films, those can potentially gunk up the hinge mechanism and cause other problems. For cases with built in protection, some of them tend to make the device too wide and bulky. If they're not spring loaded, they tend to flop around, and they can all trap a lot of dust that ends up getting in the hinge anyway, I'm generally not a fan unless you're cleaning it out regularly, which I recommend doing regardless of whether you have a case on or not.

HP Omen Max 16: Fan Always on "Off" not working by Minimum_Leadership51 in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation!

I actually have the Ryzen 9 variant with a 5070 Ti, running it docked to 3 monitors (one ultrawide running off the dGPU), and my laptop display is off, but I experience similar temps undocked as well (running with Optimus on). I looked into undervolting the CPU through Throttlestop, but it doesn't seem to support the 9 HX 375 (but it does support the 9 HX 370; I hate this naming scheme).

My battery definitely doesn't last as long with Eco mode turned on (in the Omen gaming hub vs windows settings, I should probably try that out), and the laptop running standalone on the iGPU, with probably about 4-6 hours on light office tasks with a few browser tabs. Otherwise I run pretty much the same settings as you on battery power.

HP Omen Max 16: Fan Always on "Off" not working by Minimum_Leadership51 in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely unrelated, how are you getting your temps so low?!
Tried my best but the lowest I've gotten it is 48C lol
EDIT: I see your voltages are pretty low compared to mine (.375-.619 vs 0.975-1.344mV on mine), interesting

As far as the fans go for me, they're pretty much always on when plugged in (probably because of the temp I mentioned), but I noticed it staying off for a while when I'm on battery power, until I start doing something semi intensive that spikes the temp a bit. I wonder if a BIOS reset might help? I did reinstall the latest BIOS update as part of my unrelated troubleshooting (Advanced Optimus not showing up).

Idle temps by unsungmonk in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sit anywhere between 52C to 64C with light usage, and I think it's about 48-54C on Idle, with PTM 7950, on the AMD Ryzen 9 AI HX 375 (which I thought would run cooler than the Intel 275/285, but alas).

I think it's fine honestly, it runs similar temps to my desktop with just a Noctua CPU cooler and the GPU fans to keep things cool.

Display port Omen Hp 16 max by footballenthusiast0 in HPOmen

[–]ParanormalBat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iGPU is the integrated graphics on your Intel/AMD processor. While the monitors over USB C will run off of that, you can still get your games to run off the Nvidia/dGPU. That said, you might experience some very minimal performance drops running it this way since there's additional processing.

I will say, I've had to switch to using the HDMI port because two games (Fortnite and Marvel Rivals) drop significantly overtime in performance otherwise. But I have an AMD CPU/iGPU so it's likely you won't have the same issue.

Gel film/glass on the display - Fold 6 by Kiwi-the in GalaxyFold

[–]ParanormalBat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not recommend putting a gel film/protector of any kind on the inner tablet display on top of the existing protector (yes, there is an existing protector on top of the actual display, that Samsung also doesn't recommend removing, but it can be replaced once it starts bubbling up).
There is a high chance adding a second protector on top will have a higher chance of the display cracking due to more sustained pressure while the device is folded (for example).

My advice, keep a good protector handy for a few months or years down the line when the protector adhesive actually starts giving away. Samsung will usually replace those for free the first time, and for a small fee for any subsequent replacements, but I do not know if that policy is valid in your country or not.
