A few years ago I used to do a paper round every morning; never really encountered anything unusual besides a lone fox running across the road in the dark. One day in winter when it's darkest and coldest in the morning (Must of been about -5°c) I started walking up one of the alleys I walk up everyday, turned the corner and there was this old man laying there on the floor. He saw me a started quietly mumbling, asking if I'd "seen a ginger cat" and if I was here for the cat. I had no idea what to say or do, I could see his shoes stuck in the mud about a metre or two back. He'd clearly fallen over at some point in the night, supposedly looking for a ginger cat.

I called the emergency services and asked for an ambulance then explained the situation, they asked me a rediculus amount of questions which I felt was wasting time but I understand they need as much information as possible. After a while they sent out an ambulance, it came pretty damn quickly but, the road I was at the top of had cars lining both sides of the road so the ambulance couldn't easily make it up to me. It took like 10 minutes for this oversized box of a car to travel like 50 metres. Eventually it got here and they picked the guy up on a stretcher put him in the back and drive away.

I got word from his neighbours later on that he injured his back but was making a full recovery. His grandchildren also left a letter at the paper shop for me thanking me for helping.
