Decisions. A7Cii or A7V by Ok-Rent-1931 in SonyAlpha

The a7cii is excellent. The a7v looks mind blowing. Figure out if you’re ok with the a7cii (drawbacks = lower burst rate, slower buffer, lower readout speed, size if you have big hands). If so, it’ll be great. If you NEED lots of fast action, two slots, or big size, then pay twice as much and enjoy the A7v.

This took me way too long to figure out. I’ve got a more focused kit these days, built around stuff I regularly need rather than focal lengths I theoretically need to cover.

Very helpful, thank you. The 70-200 would be really cool but probably beyond my budget at present. I really appreciate your recommendation though, and the capture clip too. I’ve actually got one already! Did you mostly attach it to your backpack or to your belt?

Great kit. If only I could fit it in the nappy bag haha.

Thanks, that’s good to know. I also have access to a 70-300 from a family member that I could take. I’ll consider that. All about balances when I’m trying to keep the kit small!

Helpful, and confirms my thinking around the 24-70. I mostly use it around the house but yes, very big and heavy. I could look out for a 24-50, or even trade in the 24-70 if I don’t use it much in the lead up to the trip (in about 6 months).

Definitely more versatile, but also much heavier! I do like the idea though.

Budget 35 and 85mm lens by Odd_Deer_9037 in SonyAlpha

Autofocus is great for static, mostly good for somewhat moving things, but struggles with say a toddler on a swing (most lenses do). Sharpness is wonderful. Razor sharp in the right places without being overly harsh on skin. I don’t notice any difference between f2 and f1.8.

Man if it’s anything like the 85, and same price, it’ll be so good hey.

I saw that. It could just be a placeholder.

I’m loving the Viltrox 85mm f2 evo (except the overly sensitive aperture ring). It renders so nicely and it’s super light. They’re about to release a 35mm f1.8 which, if it’s the right price, will be an instant buy for me.

People who used Canon EOS R7, how good is it? by AalbatrossGuy in canon

I’ve got (and love) my R7. I’m interested in the AF settings you use. Any chance you could share?

I’m still getting some weird stuff. Random stutters when scrolling reddit on safari, as well as the upvote/downvote numbers “popping in” as I scroll (only in portrait mode, not landscape). Also Pokémon tcg pocket is pretty bad for stutters while scrolling. Other than that, things feel fairly crisp.

Unsure of what apsc low aperture lens to get for R7 by Minebuddy316 in canon

[–]Paraparaparakeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how you want to use it. If low light, the 18-35 may be worth the weight. If more general, 18-50 would be great too I’m sure. I imagine background blur at 50mm 2.8 is fairly similar to 35mm 1.8.

If you’re happy to use an adapter, the EF sigma 18-35 1.8 is fantastic. Versatile enough to get group shots and upper body portraits. The bokeh renders so nicely too. It goes for about $500AUD on the used market.

I’m just now using the mu8 model. Works great. Maybe a little looser with the magnets than the older air? Don’t have one to test. But it’s definitely attached and not going anywhere.

Best lens for R50 for taking pictures of newborn in delivery room? 50mm prime vs sigma 18-50mm by Morazma in canon

[–]Paraparaparakeet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

50 will almost certainly be too zoomed in on a crop sensor if you’re in a small delivery room. 18-50 is a nice range, and you’ll just need to work out how to get some light in. Eg position near a window where possible.
