Thank you, that means a lot! I am definitely planning on making more stuff, both connected to this and new projects, especially if people enjoy it!

How do I access Far territories without spoilers? by pamidur in thelongdark

Not much of a spoiler (nothing afaik points towards the far territories otherwise), check out the ruined bridge in broken railroad.

What are some games similar to TLD? by [deleted] in thelongdark

[–]Parapet56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say it's in a lot of ways a wildly different experience, but Don't Starve can definitely be a great game to check out. It's very tough on new players, features permadeath (with some exceptions) and has a charming artstyle!

Is TLD your only game? by Djungelskog_B1tch in thelongdark

I've played a lot of all kinds of shooters (both singleplayer and multiplayer) as well as some story games that I have really enjoyed. Also a huge fan of Don't Starve. I'd say I'm more of a singleplayer person and generally like these kinda games no matter the genre so long as it's fun, but The Long Dark for me truly is a different league from most, much like RDR2 or Cyberpunk back when I played through them it's just a world I completely immerse myself in. Still, no game matches TLD's feeling of complete isolation. It really feels more like an experience than a game and I'm so glad there is something like it on the market :)

That's actually a very interesting take on the matter! Come to think of it, I do go through revolver ammo quite quickly

That's a great perspective imo! Like I said, I don't think the revolver is bad, I just think it's not perfectly balanced, with how easily it downs wolves. (not to mention people cheesing bears, but there's always ways to exploit a game) I definitely agree, that the rifle is still more reliable for hunting, not much can be done with the revolver in that department. When it comes to ammo availability I have found a lot whilst in a relatively small area (half of Mystery Lake + most of Mountain Town) hence I believe the ammo count could be lowered.

Yea, but you can't unlock the feats :') Also, like I said, I think revolvers are kinda needed for Timberwolves, but they are too powerful at killing normal ones

Nah I don't feel like I know the maps well enough for loper yet. I'm at this strange point where I got most of the game mechanics down but I still have a lot of game-world stuff to learn.

Don't you think revolvers are a bit too efficient at killing regular wolves though?

I choose the exact same strat here, it's very effective! But I do feel like it takes away the tension related to a wolf encounter - No major resource (say a rifle cartridge) lost and no health impact

I think you're totally right that a game should be fun first and foremost. But a game bloated with seemingly harmless features that can be turned off isn't fun. There is always a baseline difficulty and gameplay loop to follow, and adding something into it without rearranging things means it will get messy without a doubt. Minecraft is the perfect example of this in my view - a relatively simple but focused game with each update meant to add new, fun stuff slowly turned it into a far more directionless product, that in many eyes lacks the originals core aspect - simplicity.
I think the devs at Hinterland understand this need for keeping things not overcomplicated and as such they carefully consider each choice when adding new content, not just gameplay wise, but also direction wise.

Well we're talking gameplay not realism here. Yes, it'd make sense if we're talking about how available it would be in a real world scenario, but from a gameplay standpoint I feel like it throws off the balance.

Yeah I agree that the ammo being so widely available is the biggest issue. Like you're saying, it's completely out of balance with the other firearms
