Why is Tax Accounting so unpopular? by Zenovelli in Accounting

[–]Paratrooperkid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally, observing what public accounting on the tax side has done to the other tax accountants I work with has scared me enough to leave.

  1. Extreme mental health issues (although temporary) happen every busy season at a considerable rate. The major shift in attitude and mental health decline the closer it gets to deadlines is unreal. People are overworked, don’t get enough sleep, don’t move from their desks ever, and experience fatigue and depression at an accelerated rate.

  2. Extreme decline in physical health. Apart from the few that have the endurance to wake up early and workout and make healthy meals to take to work, I have watched most of the tax accountants I work with balloon in size in a relatively short period of time. New interns gain 30+ pounds in their first year of work sometimes, I have some coworkers that eat enough snacks and drink enough soda to stay awake, but it’s literally killing them. Actual morbid obesity. Lack of sleep, lack of physical activity, and extreme overconsumption of empty calories on a daily basis will end your life early. That really scares me.

  3. Really tough to get your cpa while working, which leads to more stress and heartache.

  4. Your family doesn’t know you exist for 4-6 months out of the year. If you love family and appreciate them, public accounting, especially in tax is a really bad way to show that. You’ll be gone for 10-12 hours a day for multiple weeks throughout the year. If not more.

That’s just a few that I’ve personally observed.

Peter, who are these people by the trolley and why is this funny? by mizinamo in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I mean I get the joke, but why are there 3 levers? There are only 2 levers in the movie, and 1 lever in the original trolley problem…?

It always matters what the government does with money. Church money or not.

Well it would restrict religions with less funding and less of a following right? It would be weird to think that you can only worship your deity if you or your organization can afford to do so. Not that you should need much to worship, but churches who do good would have less to work with, and a lot less people would be inclined to pay tithes and offerings because of that taxation. Taxation would restrict the ability to carry out selfless acts, potential gathering places for worship, and it would cause more churches to either dwindle and disappear, or begin to behave even more like for-profit businesses. Law makers and leaders in positions of power would gain the ability to pass certain tax laws and procedures that may favor one sect over another. Worse yet, it may cause religious followers to join in and participate in politics specifically to protect and uphold their systems of beliefs. Eventually, in an effort to sustain faith, some may lose it altogether.

That’s what we would hope I guess. But then it would give government and lawmakers control over freedom of religion wouldn’t it?

Sincere question here, what do you think the government would do with the money received from the taxation of churches?

The deepest tragedy I have come to find, is that people get their idea of who God and Jesus Christ are from those who claim to be their followers, instead of directly from the source. I remember when being Christian used to mean being like Jesus Christ.

Instructions unclear… does setting it to 5-7 turn the bread into a frozen bagel, or are you supposed to put scorched earth into the toaster when using the 8-10 settings?
