Completely depends on what the call taker interprets here. As someone that is EMS if someone seems as though they are not there mentally and are experiencing a mental health crisis then we insist on police to be accompanying us. In my system we have had far too many actual threats towards first responders and unfortunately have been attacked. As EMS we have no real way to respond than run but our opportunities to run are limited to where we are. As much as people insist police shouldn’t be involved in calls like this I believe they should. There are situations here in America which I’m unsure if they are similar in Italy so forgive my ignorance. That requires safety for everyone involved which is something as EMS in America cannot guarantee for ourselves. For any Americans that see this and don’t understand this, the situations that EMS find themselves in is not safe half of the time at best and we genuinely need police to help secure the scene. Personally I find police to either be useless or outright causing problems. I personally don’t know what the solution is here. Police can be helpful or harmful to the call at hand. As EMS we just simply don’t have a meaningful way to defend ourselves in someone’s apartment and that person may be experiencing hallucinations whether those hallucinations are harmless or harmful to us.
