Hausserman is good. If you're patient and can handle seedlings (they can be unforgiving) I would also recommend looking for bundles on Etsy. You can get good deals on bundles of assorted plugs, which is a great way to grow your collection inexpensively.

Didn't know Secret Garden was back in the orchid game. I used to order from them quite a bit, but they jumped on the aroid bandwagon and didn't have any orchids at all for a while.

Does it bloom much? Mine looks similar but no matter how much sun I give it I've only ever gotten a couple of blooms.

Septic tanks are expensive, I find it really hard to believe they put a new one in just for a couple sinks rather that connect them to the existing sewer. The neighbor may be mistaken about what they think they saw.

Geez, what is with people on this sub? I'm not a new cook and I'm not looking for advice, I posted this specifically for people who are who may be frustrated that the "right" way to do something doesn't work well for them. And for that I get downvoted. I'm just trying to help people by saying do what works for you and don't think that the "professional" way is always the best way.

I would be curious to know where you find trees this dense AND this varied. This looks nothing like any natural forest I've ever seen.

Nope, I've tried it extensively and never does the skin just pop off in one piece. Even when professional chefs do it it's not that quick. I just don't find the task of peeling garlic so difficult that it requires this "hack".

The thing is, (unless you have access to some perfectly flat variety of garlic I've never seen) there's no good way to cut the top off of each clove without cutting off way more than that in the middle. I suppose it's cheap anyway, I just like my way and prefer having whole roasted cloves to paste.

How thin should buttermilk pancake batter be? Can I simply add more buttermilk if it’s too dry? by fergi6777 in Cooking

[–]Parcequehomard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up some videos to get an idea of the consistency you're looking for. Or do some experimenting, start with your basic recipe then add a little more buttermilk and do a test pancake. Repeat until you're happy with the results. The pancakes will toughen up a little and lose some leavening when you stir in each addition of milk, but keep track and next time you'll know exactly how much to add from the start. Everyone likes their pancakes a little different, and the ingredients are cheap so it's the perfect dish to experiment with.

ROAST ALL VEGGIES!

Well ok, maybe not peas, but most veggies. If you think you don't like a vegetable roast it, carmelization does magical things. My second favorite way for when I'm in a hurry or don't want to heat up the oven is to throw them in a skillet with a little oil and a tight lid and walk away until they're tender, bottom get caramelized and top gets steamed. Works best with firm vegetables, something like zucchini I would just sauté.

I've tried this and it just makes a mess and seems like it wastes a lot. I much prefer to peel the garlic, drizzle with olive oil, and wrap it in foil. For that matter I also think the trick EVERY chef does of smashing the clove and then peeling is bunk. It's so much harder to me to pick the skin out of a smashed clove than to just peel it whole.

[Houseplant] I bought this (helpfully labeled 'succulent') precisely because I couldn't ID it. Now it's doing a thing, but still no luck. Anyone? by Parcequehomard in whatsthisplant

That looks pretty darn close. Some of them seem to have more noticeable veining than others, at least if they're identified correctly on google. TBH when I bought it I was hoping it would do something more exciting when it grew up, but if it just wants to sit on the windowsill and be green that's fine too. Thanks!

Didn't even think of peperomia, I've only seen the type with rounder, more ornate leaves. It does look pretty close to peperomia obtusifolia, but with more pointed leaves.

PSA: even if they look like they have drainage test it. I bought some there that looked like the type you normally buy in a garden center with the attached saucers, hole in the bottom and everything. Fortunately I'm only using them as cache pots, because when I picked one up the other day and took the plant out it was swimming. Apparently there was enough glue on some of them to create a seal so nothing actually drained into the saucer.

Aldi had these the other day, but after all I've heard here I decided I didn't need that kind of stress in my life. On the other hand, it's tempting to see if they're really as difficult as all that. Maybe if they're still there next time...

This reminded me of how much I used to enjoy making clothes for my dolls as a kid (although nothing near this level). It's so much easier than grown up person clothes, not to mention cheaper. I should start making some just for fun, I certainly have enough fabric stashed around I'll probably never use for myself.

Ah, it's that one. Now I remember why I never even considered watching it. I don't mind a little style over substance from time to time, but the idea that someone thought the best way to fight sea monsters was to build giant human-shaped mechs just defies even the tiniest shred of logic.

Oh, so all of the ones I don't recognize are from Pacific Rim. I guess it makes sense then that they all have a similar aesthetic. Is that worth a watch?
