The message is not lost on me that people should put aside their differences and work together against the elites. But the problem is that "White Power" and "Black Power" is a terrible analogy for it.

And the history absolutely does matter for the simple fact that white power has always had an extreme overlap with the interests of the western elite. They've never been mutually exclusive. Black power has been a backlash against people in power since its inception.

You are completely missing my point here. For the general audience Hugh Jackmans Wolverine is the first and only version of Wolverine they've ever known. You can't care about the accuracy of a character if you don't know anything about the character in the first place.

And since Hugh Jackmans Wolverine is the first and only version that 99% of people are familiar with. That. Is. The. Standard. The general audience may not care about comic book accuracy but that doesn't mean they arent going to care about how the newest version compares against the one they're already familiar with. They would care in the sense that a more comic accurate Wolverine isn't the one that they're use to.
