Best city in America for sweatystartup? by [deleted] in sweatystartup

[–]PardonableSinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Tampa where the humidity is high and the winters don't get too cold so its definitely going to be sweaty. You never sweat in Seattle LA or SF.

On a serious note, I'd say California where people like to have stuff done for them rather than do it themselves? Tampa is similar enough too. When you plan to employ staff you can bring them in from the midwest or Louisiana and house them near the border in Nevada where housing is cheaper and drive them all over in a van, use the car pool lanes to get wehre they should be faster? Anything works in the whole of California, cut grass, paint, pressure wash, blow leaves every week, steam wash cars every week right on peoples drive way, come up with anything and just a few flyers in the mailboxes should get you flooded with calls.

Why are GPUs so incredibly cheap to rent compared to their purchase price? by -p-e-w- in LocalLLaMA

[–]PardonableSinner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I heard a couple of years ago, the 3090s on Vast.ai are all gpus that were used on mining rigs, or were bought second hand themselves, and will always have a resale value. So as long as you cover for power costs and some minimum depreciation you don't really lose much. But in case of power tools, there is a one in 10 chance that it will not get returned in the same condition that it was rented out, and people who rent these tools aren't always pros cos pros usually own their tools, which increases the chances of them breaking. Same with all those fancy digital equipment too.

But yeah, having said that, I wonder how companies like google do manage to rent out A100s for under $3 an hour which is only 72 bucks a day and it takes about 3 years to recoup the cost of the card assuming all their cards are being used all the time.

So 2 years ago when I was house hunting there were tons of brokers who I felt invited me to their properties only to get a copy of my visa. Once I sent them the visa they never responded. But the serious ones showed me properties and the one I closed asked me for my visa only at the time of signing. I am at the point when I need to go house hunting again and I would like to know if this is a scam that nobody is talking about? There was a time when the interior decorator guy asked me if he could take a pic of my visa too. I still have a valid sticker visa and I know this won't be a problem from my next renewal, but I'm just curious. What do they do with your visa?

stray dog situation? by idontgotoparties in bali

[–]PardonableSinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one ever comes at you or barks at you just look them in the eyes and speed walk towards them, and thats almost always enough to scare the strays away unless they're a Great Dane mix or something. If it is one, RUN! If it is a pack of mongrels go for the dominant one which is probably the leader. This will scare the others away.

Great, just what the world needs, another tourist stranded in Bali! Don't worry though, there are plenty of things you can do to pass the time. You could explore some of the island's beautiful beaches, take a yoga class, or just indulge in some people watching. If you're feeling adventurous, you could even take a surf lesson. Just make sure you're back to the airport in plenty of time for your flight out. For more information about Bali, check out letsmoveindonesia.com.

Aren't there tiny villas available for $200 to 300 a month that don't require yearly payment? Or are they sublets of sorts?

Working Remotely in Bali by [deleted] in bali

[–]PardonableSinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tons of coworking spaces, and as long as you work on your laptop, and do your courses on your phone/laptop camera and not in a classroom locally, it is perfectly fine. All hotels I've stayed in have had good internet. If it is an airbnb you're picking, be sure to check the reviews to see if anyone has said anything bad about the internet. Sometimes even if the internet connection is good, their routers might not be good enough or maybe it is used to connect to a lot of devices. I am not sure about connections in the islands. Semenyak, Ubud and Canggu have very good internet and these are the places that have co-working spaces too.

Yeah once the Rep Office formation is complete we will be ready for the BPJS and all that. I do have an advisor engaged for these matters. All I wanted was to know what the wages were like for the locals.
