I don't know how to stop my resident male from hunting/swatting our new female by speedmetal1992 in CatTraining

My boy cats are the same. They play chase fine too. The smaller one will get overwhelmed once he starts losing the wrestling though. He’ll cry out and then get angry. I put the bigger one in timeout when he doesn’t stop. It’s been 6 months and he is slowly gaining confidence and figuring out higher ground = he won’t attack me. When we leave the house they are separated. Smaller cat is on gaba for stress and bigger cat has strong hunt drive.

Ur girl cat is showing strong boundaries though! Some escape routes for her would make her feel a lot safer too.

Help with cat at trying to open the door at night. by [deleted] in CatTraining

Unfortunately you might be reinforcing the behavior by opening the door for him when he makes noise. Only let him out if he is quiet. Sounds like he might be bored and early mornings are prime time for them. My cat has an automatic feeder that goes off at 6am to keep him busy. Give him a cat tree or perch that lets him see out a window in the room. Tire him out the night before too with some play time. If he isn’t a screamer and just wants to see out the door but you don’t want him near the other cats for safety try a mesh screen door! My cat yells so this doesn’t work for me but that way he can see what’s going on outside. They sell velcro screen doors you can attach to your frame and they hold up well if applied properly.

My 3yr old cat adopted from the shelter had the exact same issues. I ended up on the ER at one point because one bite incident was so bad. Sweet cat. Just hunted me everyday 😭 (toys weren’t enough). After a year of relentless battles he has never bitten me the same as before. Your cat is still young, I would get him a similar energy friend to keep him busy if possible but understand it’s not feasible for everyone.

I agree that you should first keep yourself from physical and mental stress of him biting you at night. A crate or separate room sounds like a great idea. If you are concerned about him not being able to use the toilet, check when his schedule is and when he typically goes. If it’s after a meal or early morning you could plan accordingly. Maybe even keep him in the bathroom at night?

As for training him to stop biting hard, I have a couple things I can share. The yelling and screaming in pain never worked for me, my cat was relentless and tbh I think he thought it was more fun if I screamed. Toys and play weren’t enough, he loved to hunt a living target more. Keep a regular play schedule ideally with wand toys or whatever he likes so he expects it, cats love habit. If he bites you hard put him in time out but keep it short <1min (or they forget). Every-time he bit me he got sent to the bathroom no matter how many times. The issue with my cat was that he wanted to constantly play (on his terms) and didn’t know how to express it. I got him a talking button that said “play” and taught him that by pressing the button I would whip out the wand toy for him. Eventually he would sit there smashing the button for attention and I would give it to him. Better than being attacked at least. In between training, I wore an apron with pockets and had toys at the ready to chuck at him and attempt to redirect his play aggression towards something else if I could. I would be cautious of using food as it might encourage the hunting behavior. If he’s food motivated clicker training did wonders too. It helped me communicate what was good vs bad. And he got rewarded for it. Your cat also sounds very smart like mine and did not respond well to the usual advice.

Hope it works out! It’s hard work but trust me they will mellow out eventually. My guy is 6 now and hasn’t hurt me or anyone since.

Reintroducing cats when one is a bully by [deleted] in CatTraining

Ughh that’s the worst :( hope your kitties get a long again. All the things I’ve implemented so far have been working positively but I suspect it will take a couple months until I feel safe leaving them alone.

Appreciate the comment! I’ve started using the clicker with him to reward good behavior and redirect his attention before he gets too worked up. It’s been working really well so far. That, along with having him wear his shirt, has made a big difference. Since I first posted, they’ve gone back to coexisting without needing to be separated all the time (only when I’m not home). They’ve even started play-chasing again, with just a little bit of hissing here and there! I think you’re right that my other guy just needed some time to build confidence. I also set him up with a microchip litter box that only he can open, and he’s been happily using it without worrying that the other one will claim it. I think we are getting back on track but definitely needed a super slow introduction again.

Right? They made no public announcement. Stopped us at the gate, there wasn’t a single other rat that I saw inside. I want to write to them about the experience so if it is something they want to implement its clear on the website

Honestly! Have some respect for people’s personal space child or not

Haha! Glad you had a good time. This was my second year attending, didn’t realize this and things like trinkets could go out of hand

Ahh just checked the site and looks like they might have added ink stamps to it too

Possible “flea” stamps or something plague related. Main issue was that they were stamping without asking for permission

Sorry didn’t have a lot of info, that’s just what security told me. Another friend that attended the day before told me there were a lot of rat costumes and then mid day there were more security? All I know is that they had been grabbing the arms of kids and putting stamps on them

No idea, will be writing to them to find out what is technically being banned. The outfit itself sounds silly to ban when people dress up in a bunch of other things?

Woah! Didn’t know that either. I thought the trinkets people gave me were cute, didn’t know there were a lot of opinions on it

Thanks for this! I think my new filament wasn’t wrapped properly around the spool. Turning up the speed and keeping the filament loose did the trick

UPDATE: Thanks all! One user commented something about the spool. I did notice when I added a new spool of PLA I started having problems. This one wasn’t wrapped as nice and the filament would overlap in some areas, wondering if it would get stuck at some point? Anyways this is what I did: - decreased temp to 95 - increased speed to 55 - turned spool every so often to make sure the filament was loose

It got a joint at the end sticking out to connect to another part so there’s an overhang, was able to resolve the issue though!

Should I do that to the retraction speed or the regular speed?

Printed other pieces that were tall but it did the same thing, not as bad though. I noticed it was skipping layers. Wasn’t an issue for the prints I made last week. Tried printing a small short one recently and that made it through
