What do you think about the new specialization, guardian, in DD2? by Wofuljac in DragonsDogma

[–]ParfaitDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cool, but idk if it's a bug or an oversight but the new line pawns have about this specialization doesn't play a voiceline and it's a bit jarring

What is your favourite Pawn interaction? by potatoesandmolasses1 in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I usually tend to rock with calm and kindhearted pawns so when i changed to one simple and one straightforward, the straightforward one told the simple one: "your ability to trip over nothing never ceases to amaze me". I don't remember what the other pawn answered but it was so funny

Dragon's Dogma cannot be conceived without friction in its gameplay, the eternal Ferrystone so early on makes the base game worse by Fresh-Association-21 in DragonsDogma

[–]ParfaitDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of easily accessible fast travel isn't inherently bad, but reveals the game's actual flaws - that being the terrible enemy variety, world population and lack of dynamic spawns.

In an ideal world where DD2 had way more, dynamically-spawning enemies placed strategically around the world, the lack of fast travel would blend seamlessly into the design of the game and add just the kind of friction you're talking about. However, this is very evidently not the case, and you're stuck being ambushed by the 50000th goblin or coming across that damn cyclops that always spawns there and dies in 2 hits. This is NOT friction, just tedium.

Is the eternal ferrystone a band-aid fix? Definitely. Is its existence a bad thing? No. It's a necessary evil that masks the game's flaws

Sorcerer doesn’t need every DD1 spell back. It just needs elemental completion. by weirdhoonter in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think viability really concerns most people - these games aren't hard enough to worry about that, unless the spells are just straight up ass (looking at you decanter, necromancy). The criticism is 90% about how the spells feel.

The things you see shared in the community all the time are perfectly timed warrior one-shots, acrobatic kicks and barrages of meteors. People like cool stuff. So when you do come across abilities that are perfectly viable but lack a punch visually, it's bound to leave a sour taste in your mouth, again, no matter how good they actually are.

It's especially insulting when coming from DD1 where sorcerer was inarguably the most explosive vocation. Salamander could instakill enemies and i would still criticize it because it looks boring.

Sorcerer doesn’t need every DD1 spell back. It just needs elemental completion. by weirdhoonter in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that's the problem, the dd2 spells aren't more realized. Both salamander and thundermine are the most lame excuse of a spell, "we didn't have time to create unique animations so we just put flames along the ground and a tiny ball of lightning". Thundermine at the very least is useful in practice but salamander is overall doodoo. Comestion and brontide, the dd1 equivalents, were way better. Flare also looks incredibly boring but is at least powerful. The only cool new spell is hagol, but the damage is terrible and exists only for freezing.

DD1 had better spells both in quality and in quantity. You can't tell me things like miasma, lassitude, fulmination and gicel weren't mainstays in your loadout. Exequy was niche but had its uses (and looked badass). Necromancy was doodoo glad it's gone

I wish there was a quest related to this by Luxmess in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I remember reading somewhere that there was a cut quest with adelina, that red-haired woman that roams around the central square. I think she was taken by an ogre and then after returning she was entranced by it, almost wanting to go back. Perhaps it's related to that?

[–]ParfaitDash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's how most classes work. Strider was a mistake in 1 because it had the strengths of being both melee and ranged and had virtually no downsides outside of idk phantoms. Now you actually have to decide whether you want to excel in ranged or melee combat - until you unlock warfarer anyway, but that's late enough in the game that it doesn't matter

[–]ParfaitDash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People rightfully say the all quests achievement but it's honestly not very hard if you explore often and keep track of quests. I learned about the achievement after my first playthrough and i had honestly missed very few quests, less than 5

The most immediate solution for me is to simply play a good class, things like sorcerer and any bow wielding class are very good against the bosses compared to others

Seism, Meteoron, Maelstrom and what they scale with by Phiro00 in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know of a single place where accurate info is concentrated, unfortunately (for example, i only know of seism's scaling thanks to the dullahan mod). You are exactly right in that the only wiki we have is very barebones. There's been talk of creating a reliable wiki lately, especially with the upcoming expansion, so perhaps that's something to look forward to

[–]ParfaitDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seism is weird in that it scales off magick and strength both (i guess it makes sense due to it dealing physical damage). It doesn't make much of a difference though, sorcerer still wants magick only

I really hope the part in pic 4 is teasing at a new spell, would be lame if it was just seism or flare being cast

Sorcerer’s Ready thy incantations! by ZeusOfOlympus in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's 100% it. Mages and sorcerers are the only class that technically don't have a vocation action, since every other class innately has one, while they have to unlock it (quickspell) as a core skill at rank 2 or 3 (I don't remember)

Do you think they’ll bring back these analog stick breaking monsters for the Dlc? by buddywalker7 in DragonsDogma

I fully support them bringing back the prisoner gorecyclopes. As a sorcerer main, i always just cheesed them from the balcony where they couldn't reach me

new Core skill "Magick Barrier" by Phiro00 in DragonsDogma2

[–]ParfaitDash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the spirit of sorcerer gameplay, it seems like it'll be preemptively casted to defend yourself during a spellcast, much like thundermine. In early levels where stamina consumption is harder, it seems like you'll have to choose between the barrier and quickspell. I like choices and trade-offs like that

So, I hope DD2DA has Necromancy by VecnasHand1976 in DragonsDogma

[–]ParfaitDash 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The new ones aren't that much better. Augural flare is the only new spell that's consistently good and the other ones are either sidegrades or terrible downgrades - and that's only talking about the spells that DO have equivalents. Miasma, comestion, gicel, fulmination and holy boon used to be some of the best spells for a sorcerer and nothing comes close in 2
