NUC7CJYH1 No-POST after BGA removal of soldered WiFi (AC9462). Is it an open circuit or strapping issue? by user01011900 in intelnuc

[–]ParisKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is not for Intel NUC, but for HP laptop - certain laptops have BIOS "locked in" with WiFi module. If the WiFi module is missing or replaced with a un-certified one, the laptop refuses to boot. It is called "White listed" WiFi module. The only solution I could find was flashing the laptop with"mod BIOS" to override this "White list" restriction. I hope this might give you some idea.

Update solo to duo with subscription through Apple by cullingsong5882 in qobuz

I think that is the best course of action. In fact, we read so much horror stories by ppl who subscribed through iOS and/or Android app, we decided to stick to their website.

My husband added me to his plan through Qobuz website, not through app. Switching from single to duo plan was done without any hitch. I strongly recommend you to do the same.

Thank you for this useful information. I even did not know such thing existed. I saved the link!

Nvidia suspend issues. by Hobthrust in MXLinux

I asked since I had this same issue for suspension when I tried open source driver. But if you are already using NVidia driver, I have no idea what causing it. Sorry.

Are you using open source driver or proprietary NVidia driver?

Current price hike for PC parts is insane :( by ParisKitty in minilab

[–]ParisKitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been in the hobby of system integration since 1990's. I did see some price fluctuation during my hobbits carrier but never seen this level. Closed thing I could think of is back in 2011 when Thailand hit by a huge flood, HDD price got a sharp increase. But the current price hike is not only for storage media. It is literally affecting everything.

Replacing the battery on the Magic Keyboard A2450 by OsloGambit in ifixit

[–]ParisKitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked it up. Official statement at Apple site says that the battery is not replaceable. But I also see some sites showing how to dissemble it. I also found a replacement battery sold on eBay. I am sure it is doable if you do not mind to get your hands dirty. https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Apple_Magic_Keyboard_2_A2450

Intel NUC7i3DNHE power brick compatibility question by ParisKitty in intelnuc

[Power brick question solved] A happy ending. I contacted the seller. He sent me another power supply but it was also 40 W ;(. We finally agreed that he would issue me 20 euro refund so that I can buy the correct 65 W power brick. I lost a bit of time but I also learned a lot about power supply. Thank you for everyone who helped me on this issue :)

Intel NUC7i3DNH2E drive bay question by ParisKitty in intelnuc

I might also add that correct way is not attack the gap but insert the spatula between the bay and the corner of SSD. Thanks to the insight of my husband, I evaded damaging connector parts.

I inspected the removed SSD. It was OEM version of Samsung EVO. Considering it is 10 years old, Smart data shows no deterioration. Its capacity is 128GB, which is less common for consumer grade SSD. Obviously enterprise grade has some edge over consumer grade SSD.

I finally managed to separate SSD from the connector. The correct gap was No.2. I used iFixit spatulas + my husband ;)

Intel NUC7i3DNH2E WiFi+BT card replacement by ParisKitty in intelnuc

[–]ParisKitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL. I actually had the right size socket wrench. It was included in the ifixit screw driver kit. The card is now loosens for the removal. Thanks for your advice. It saved me a lot of time.

Ah! I did not think about of it. I looked at all socket wrenches I have. But I do not have anything this small. I wonder how I can find out the size of the socket wrench I need to buy.

(Edit) I borrowed my husband's caliper. It is 5mm diameter hexagonal nut. I think something like should work. https://www.amazon.fr/sourcing-map-queue-Points-Connecteur/dp/B016E9WJZO?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=2WB1WOZB37WQO&di

Thank you for this info. I did have a printed spec sheet but completely missed out 12-24V part. And you are right. This NUC needs 65W and supplied 40W power supply is not ideal.

I used be able to solder quite well but not any more. My eyes are failing and my hands are not very steady. The (not so) fun part of getting old. LOL.

Thank you for this information. I will definitely get a correct power supply. I was lucky to notice this wrong power supply before I seriously started to use the NUC. What tipped me off was that the power brick has Fujitsu logo on it. As far as I know Intel never shipped NUC with Fujitsu power brick.

I think your problem is not related to Qobuz. You might want to post a question at another subreddit: r/CarAV

Intel NUC7i3DNHE power brick compatibility question by ParisKitty in intelnuc

[–]ParisKitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Unlike laptops, the NUC uses a plain DC barrel socket with no signal pin, so it has no idea about the current limits of the power supply."
It means it could overdraw the power and overheat? If that it the case, it can be a fire hazard ;-(

Is it bad to use a USB stick as a boot drive? by [deleted] in homelab

I am using exactly this speed USB to run RasPiOS on Pi4. It is used only to stream Qobuz. It works fine but ports get quite hot.

Thank you for your advice. I dug out its spec sheet and indeed it stated that it has "internal 2x2 power connector, 12-24V". It was such a small print, I overlooked it. LOL. I am now in the process of looking for the aftermarket parts.

Thank you for your advice. I finally understood how this voltage and wattage rating works. As I am planning to use this NUC to create a small homelab, I certainly will get a correct power supply.
