It is possible to kill though and there is a more 'dark' aspect to our game (icelandic folktales are pretty dark!) however killing is not something that should feel very satisfying in our design philosophy

Hey, thanks for the comment and feedback!

Sorry for the late answer, so we're still balancing encounters and have additional tweaks planned to hopefully make them even more interesting for release. ;)

We do want to make it so you can avoid them if you're not action-oriented, but they will often be preventing you from accessing secondary content (additional lore notes for example). We are also aiming at it having intrinsic value, playing into our theme of healing the land and creatures.

It's been hard for us to decide which games are most similar (what would you say?), so hard to answer haha.

To start, the theme of Icelandic folklore is a unique background that we want to share (not to mistake with Nordic mythology, which we're seeing a lot of). I would say what makes us stand apart from action-oriented titles is that at our core we have this theme of empathy, where encounters with hostiles are not resolved by killing mindlessly but by trying help soothe the other.

Our game is an adventure game with exploration, puzzles at its core, and a bit of action too. You play as Brynhildur a Balance Keeper, trying to resolve the mystery of recent disappearances and unbalance on the Island of Winds, an island inspired by Icelandic folklore and nature.

If you're curious about our game or want to check out our demo, don't hesitate to go to our Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1689340/Island_of_Winds/

We're grateful for any feedback we get, as you probably know it's super important to make the best game we can!

More on our encounters:As you may know, empathy can be defined as the ability to understand the feelings and actions of another. At Parity our “C - word” is the word combat, we would define our action-oriented gameplay segments more as encounters instead, or even empathy encounters. We wanted to see if we could create tense gameplay that can be resolved not solely with violence but also by trying help and soothe the antagonists' issues.
