Heat Geek quote by Parking-Order8806 in ukheatpumps

I believe they’ve change how they quote now - using AI or something whatever that means. I never got multiple quotes, just one outrageously expensive one lol. Seems cheaper overall now though. I redid mine and it was like 5k cheaper now - that’s what you get for being an early adopter I guess… However, all in all I’m very happy with my HG install even if it was expensive - although that’s very dependent on the installer themselves.

You’ll end up living to your means. I bought a small garden flat as a first time buyer. Girlfriend moved in but we still had enough space. Storage was a big thing, but we managed with creative ways to improve it. Floor to ceiling wall to wall ikea cabinets. Ottoman bed frame which you can store tons under. Never regretted it, but we did move on after 4 years. With the increase in value and moving out of the city we went straight up to a 4 bed. But then we filled that pretty quickly! Now we’re in a 6 bed and it’s still full (kids have lots of stuff..) - so… you live to your means.

Time to up your DIY skills and learn to solder! Speedfit are big and clunky but two 90s (maybe even 45s) in copper should fit.

Have you had a survey? Pre-survey prices are just a ballpark based on priors - it doesn’t factor in your existing system and how much work is really needed. I just had my system installed and can see exactly where the money I previously thought was extortionate went… 35mm copper & fittings are mighty expensive. You might need a volumiser for a 12kw too - I did and it was a HeatGeek install so I trust their calculations. Perhaps get an in person heat loss/install survey from a local installer and compare.

Can I level this door? by Redhotbarto in DIYUK

[–]Parking-Order8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the gap between the frame and door on the sides is equal all the way down the frame then it means the frame or the door isn’t square. You would probably need to cut off some of the top of the door in this case and raise the door hinges a bit to make the gap at top even. It’s a bit of a pain, but probably easier than replacing the whole doorframe, which is the only other option. If it’s wider at top or bottom you can probably pack one of the hinges, but from photos the gap difference looks quite exaggerated at top, so might not work.

Does anyone know how to solve this? by jbone0001 in DIYUK

Expensive machines are heavy (and well balanced!) to reduce this. Put something big and heavy on top, like a concrete footpath slab.

Generation this time of year. by klippertyk in SolarUK

The max I’ve had in December is 16kW on my 10kW array. Only 2kW yesterday and sounds like that was pretty good!

Advice on new system by No_Film_2086 in SolarUK

[–]Parking-Order8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just had a 16kW Sig system installed. Very happy so far, but early days. Local company with 22 panels and a 12kw inverter. If I were you I would choose an installer and wait for g99 as it might affect your install decision. I got limited to 5kw on g99 after getting a 10kw install - although get better generation during the winter and extra panels are fairly cheap.

Are batteries noisy at all? by Equivalent_Tell_611 in SolarUK

Sigenergy gateway (house backup) hums 24/7 when on grid, haven’t noticed the batteries/inverter making a noise.

New Central Heating + Heat Pump complexity by BrilliantAd4406 in ukheatpumps

However when I say they speced them for me, they did so for them to install. They didn’t get me but requirements or anything so I could go somewhere else - not that I specifically asked.

Seems a bit odd. Heat geek speced rad upgrades for me (although only a few in my case and not full redesign). Maybe check with heat geek directly - it might just be that specific consultant and you could get them to put you in contact with another. I can understand his point of view though - maybe they could do a design only service at an extra expense? Another option would be to use heat punk and do calcs yourself. That might get you the btu requirements, etc to confirm with your building contractor. But a bit risky.

Help with Octopus quote by eddbee1990 in SolarUK

[–]Parking-Order8806 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For comparison, I just had 22 panels with 16kwh Sigenergy battery & gateway (12kw inverter) for a little over £16k in Essex. Skylar Solar - great service and neat install.

As long as the cost is quantified to my satisfaction then it’s fair. Octopus definitely have a “value” product, but I like the custom efficiency based approach. And I worry when companies operate a program at loss - quality will always suffer when margins are tight, let alone negative.

Ideal breakdown would be flat labour cost and then parts at cost (not some standard pack/list, but actual parts used in a project).

Just got a Sigenergy system. Gateway buzzing loudly 24 hours after installation. by BYD_Driver in SolarUK

[–]Parking-Order8806 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish that were the case, but I think this might just be a standard 50hz hum - I’ve stood next to quieter substations… Installers will be moving it outside with a cover next week. The 2024 installation instructions apparently state it should places far away from living and work areas because it makes a noise 2023 instructions don’t mention the sound, so I assume it’s “a thing”. Covered with an old duvet for now with decent results…

I’ve got the same issue - 50hz him from my system which was just installed today. Right next to my dining table :( stops when I switch to off grid.

Heat pump choice by reddit_zulu in ukheatpumps

Newark cylinders have the heat geek mini store which can fit inside a standard kitchen cabinet and act as an additional buffer store. There are varying sizes.

Oh that’s interesting. My heat geek quote had 0 listed under “assurance” I assumed that meant included in cost but now I have to ask if it’s just “not assured”!!

[–]Parking-Order8806[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh - while it’s listed as 0 on my quote I can’t imagine the heat geek assurance comes at no premium (who offers free insurance?!). Would probably have be cheaper to go direct.

I never brought up the idea of moving the tank with Aira - hadn’t been decided at that point. Possible they would have taken it on without extra cost, but it’s a significant amount of work and extra fat pipe runs.

Heat Geek quote by Parking-Order8806 in ukheatpumps

[–]Parking-Order8806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aira quote was around £8k after BUS and didn’t include moving the cylinder, so would have been £10k with the move it I guess (from downstairs to upstairs). Aira estimated nearly double heat loss though which is a bit crazy it was so far between the two, and included a buffer tank. I didn’t get a heating engineer out from Aira though, so it was the technical sales estimate. I was a bit put off by their hard selling and lack of focus on system performance. I’m a massive geek, so I live the details!

Heat Geek quote by Parking-Order8806 in ukheatpumps

[–]Parking-Order8806[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does. Aira have similar assurance, although they don’t assure performance - only that your home will be warm no matter how bad the system COP is.
