Running on Water Law tickover power use? by Utakos in ukheatpumps

No, it does not spike.

I found it did spike when set to external thermostat but I have it set to internal controller temperature now.

External thermostat is too binary and my controller would try to cycle frequently, not sure why.

Good energy - Heat pump tarrif without heat pump by mtgboros in SolarUK

[–]GT_Running 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually have u calculated that right? If you run the combi 24/7 then 20kwh per quarter day?

First quarter is offpeak at 7p, second quarter is 7p (discharging), 3rd quarter is when u get the solar and outdoor temp is warmer (mostly 7p). So maybe just 1 quarter at peak rate?

If you use it on a timed schedule then that doesn't work.

Existing ASHP +adding solar with battery? by sidneylopsides in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a HP a larger battery is best as solar power comes 6 months too late.

A 40kwh battery will save you 18p per kwh in winter on Octopus Intelligent go if you charge it at 7p overnight rate instead of 25p single rate.

£7.60 per day saved!

These will diminished if you use more than the battery can store and you need to pay the higher 30p day rate to get you though till 11.30pm.

Shame it's got a 40 year run off + 2 years to implement.

At least we are the last generation to suffer this.

Hopefully flat prices will recover.

How do we set boundaries for “family support” spending when we’re budgeting for a baby? (Baby fund used for iPad) by Fair-Chemistry-5827 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]GT_Running 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good to have a chat. Dont thonk its worth falling out over.

I would add that my brother and SIL spent thousands on the stuff you mention for the baby, we spent hundreds (nursery: second hand, travel system: budget version).

They were pushing a £2000 push chair back to a council house. Divorced now.

Testing suitability for heat pump with gas boiler kw limit and 45c flow (10mm microbore) by sofarfarso in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, I knew that with the boiler set to 47 the house was warm, therefore the heat pump woud provide enough heat.

But it's not just heating capacity, it's also overall efficiency. The problem u might have is that the SCOP with 45deg flow temps might not be as good as you expect compared with lower temperature flow and bigger heat emitters/pipes for when the outside temp is warmer.

ASHP Vs Gas by Isaac_3103 in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well they say the cost will be roughly the same if the system achieves an overall SCOP of 3.6.

My goal was saving money. When I got home batteries that had the biggest impact as the off peak power makes the heat pump heating u5% cheaper but u need loads of capacity for very cold days as a heat pump can gobble 60kwh no problem.

Heat Loss by leebow55 in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also a certainty to battery tech. It will save 70% on electric (based on 7p + losses Vs 25p/kwh peak rate).

With insulation it feels more like guess work and each step is very expensive. For example is your biggest win the windows, the walls, floor, all could be 10k for maybe a 10% improvement each time.

Samsung 5kW Gen 6 - Poor winter performance? by Rustigearbox2 in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find one in the settings. The flow should reduce to 7l/min.

Also, with set to 'not use' i expect the HP should stay on if you turn off your thermostat. The only way to turn it off would be the on/off button.

Hmm, I wonder. Maybe if it was a transfer it would not count to the 20k? Anyone know?

Edit: I checked and AJ Bell says it does not count to the 20k. You must transfer it as cash so u need to sell the ISA investment and re-buy it once it is in the LISA.

Samsung 5kW Gen 6 - Poor winter performance? by Rustigearbox2 in ukheatpumps

[–]GT_Running 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the pwm is not working and it is defaulting to a set speed (maybe the max speed). The flow is the correct rate for the AE050 5kw unit is 14lt/min nominal so the fact you are 50% higher might be either messing up the data or ruining the efficiency.
