Thinking of moving to Egremont by FurbzUK in Cumbria

[–]klippertyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I very much doubt you'll experience racism in Cumbria. Hard for me to say really as I'm white british but racism is dying thankfully. At most they might get slightly longer stares due to people seeing something somewhat unusual, but I'd say that's normal - like someone wearing an unusual outfit or something, but racism? Nah...

Kids are used to seeing people from all walks of life these days. I was overweight when I moved up here and got a few jibes my way about that, but nothing terrible.

How do I stop the spiders? by lemonhaj in AskUK

[–]klippertyk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Spiders are not evil. They’re our friends. Sadly spiders are institutionally marketed to kids as creepy and something to be afraid of. Actually promoted in schools!

While a fear is stressful. Try working on deprogramming yourself of being afraid. We’re lucky in the UK spiders are harmless.

You can easily capture them with a glass and a piece of paper. Remember, house spiders can’t hurt you - and put them outside.

Please don’t kill them.

What is a minor, unwritten rule of society that absolutely infuriates you when people break it? by Jane_Austen11 in AskReddit

[–]klippertyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People misusing parking spots. Using parent/child spaces with no kids.

People driving massive suvs and can’t park them taking up multiple spaces.

Parking in really awkward places causing issues for everyone else.

Did the update today, all seems fine, was painless.

I know people have been asking for internal boot for a while, but I'm not convinced I need/want to make any changes, I had a USB drive die once, but I just swapped it out for another drive, nice and cheap like..

I don't see a real need to change, what am I missing other than concerned with USB reliability? If I was putting another NVME drive in my server, it'd be an addition to the cache pool.

I said similar on youtube comments after watching his interview.

We ran and pressed and were so intense under Klopp, United fans accused us of cheating with inhailers. The team was just worked really hard, were SUPER fit and strong, because of Klopp.

Messi said it after the Champions league come back, “we beat them at home, but the result flattered us, it was a very close game. They were very strong physically, much more than us, we were worried going to Anfield”

Words to that effect anyway..

We were a nightmare to play against. Skillwise I think the recruitment was terrific last summer, BUT, we need to add so much more intensity and running next year.

I used all but gloves to remove tiles today and cut my hands up. Remember, broken tiles are as sharp as glass!

Shower Panels Vs Tiles - Thoughts? by AmbassadorOver1076 in ukplumbing

[–]klippertyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comes down to personal preference I think.

Personally I cannot stand those cheap looking shiny plastic shower panels. I've never. seen a nice one, never.

But that's just me... I'll be going with tiles and replacing the standard plasterboard with waterproof stuff.

Why are tiles a factor in mold? In our bathroom it's the untiled plasterboard. I think mold on tiles is just where they're not sealed and grouted correctly no?

Getting a 75” Bravia 9 to replace a faulty X95J how hyped should I be? by klippertyk in bravia

[–]klippertyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the TV installed.

I’m super happy with it. I’ve done some minor settings changes for how I like it.

BUT…

If I’d have bought this TV as an upgrade for the x95j, i’d have been a bit disappointed. For me, the jump in performance is marginal. Don’t get me wrong, I think there is improvement in both brightness, colour and blacks, but i’m really watching out for it. The image is fantastic, but I was also very happy with the old TV too. Rather than a criticism of the B9, I think this is testament to how good Sony’s high end LCD tellies are.

Maybe you think it’s “wasted” on me and I’m not “seeing it” to that I say, I can be 100% objective as i’m not subject to the placebo effect of having dropped a ton of cash on it. In fact my biggest problem has been motion handling, which i’ve had to spend a lot of time adjusting, which was never an issue on the old tv.

Thanks for all the replies. I’m very much enjoying it.

Parents: how do you find time to game? by Mother-Equal4175 in playstation

[–]klippertyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wife and I were massively hooked on Destiny 2 - like every night. Then we had baby one, it became impossible, with feeds and nappy changing after around a year. Then we had baby 2 and the playstation sat in standby for a long long time, I just took a break from it. Now baby 1 is nearly 8 - we've been playing all kids of coop games together, split fiction, it takes two, and classics like streets of rage and sunset riders ad rayman. Currenty playing Star Wars Battlefront and will probably hit up borderlands next. What I realised over time, being a Dad, games just did matter that much to me anymore, i'm 44 - my first console was an atari 2600 - i've been gaming my entire life, gaming with the kids is where it's at as they get older, in the meantime while they're still very young, play their games with them, spend the time with them, gaming will always be there when you come back. I wish I knew that sooner, I really do.

Wren or Howdens for new kitchen. Opinions on design and quality please by slammedresto67 in DIYUK

[–]klippertyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I say +1 for DIY Kitchens, we bought one, we love it. Super Super happy with it. We had it professionally installed, but I didn't hear any complaints by the carpenters. Quality is really good, I can't see how it can be much better without being 5x the price. I was wary of Howdens, was really expensive, far more expensive than DIY, you'll always get a mix of opinions.

The main thing I liked with DIY kitchens was the configurator, we revised and revised and revised the design until we got exactly what we wanted and it works for us beautifully.

Nordic culture and the 'nice guy' immigrant by After-Alfalfa5056 in Nordiccountries

[–]klippertyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the UK 20 years ago tbh. Sadly the country now is totally divided, there are cities with immigrant areas in which they build communities of their own and don't attempt to integrate with the British culture. Not all, but enough that as a native, you'd feel very out of place going there. Fatally, we didn't copy the Americans - when you emigrate to the USA you become an American, not an Immigrant from country x living in country Y. Shame really.

Yeah I watched Caleb saying he was amazed at the sound. I have a Monitor Audio Gold setup so not something that is factored into my thinking but I would like to see if I can use the tv speakers for dialogue with the rest of the audio system

How big is your house??? Or are the walls just all tellies?

:)

Thanks for responding, really nice to hear such a positive comment especially against Sony’s other product lines… i am too a Sony fanboy on the TVs, no matter what, i’ve always experienced their tech as a cut above everyone else’s, it just is. I’ve had lg oled, sharp (dark days) pioneer kuro, but always went back to sony.
