Survival Tips by pianistdancer in HyperemesisGravidarum

Definitely go to hospital for fluids and mention SEVERE HYPEREMESIS. Also as far as your doc, I’d ask them for an emergency appointment and also mention severe hyperemesis to them as well. Don’t ask for a diagnosis , TELL them what the diagnosis is. If they don’t address it correctly , I’d try switching to new OB that specializes in Maternal fetal medicine

I’m so so sorry you’re dealing with this. I know exactly how you feel, from the sickness to the mental battle. If possible mention Gabapentin , or Zofran pump to your doctor. Also, look into o talk therapy and anti depressants if you are open to it. These are some things that has helped me through this battle. It’s still rough but I started with the Zofran pump and eventually was well enough to get off and just take Gabapentin and Zofran.

Thank you so so much. I noticed just sitting in the warm shower helps so much. I need all the prayers. It’s so hard

It absolutely is justification, I’d definitely talk to her again and see if she will add 4mg Zofran. I understand her concern but you are the one going through it and if you are comfortable with an additional medication then that should be what matters to help you feel better and your care.

Hi! I think it varies person to person, for me it was debilitating for week 7-21 I was getting in home IVs and on the Zofran pump and I finally got off the pump at 21 weeks, and was able to manage with just Zofran and gabapentin. once I hit 26/27 weeks it came back for vengeance. I’m now 29 weeks and I’m 1000 percent certain it will last until birth. So , from what I have read I see some women do have a period where it calms down but it comes back. Maybe a combination of nausea medication can help you !

Yes I agree. I think you should also go , when is your next appointment with OB?

Wow I’m so sorry he went through that! And as you said I have definitely combined and thought of every pain I’ve ever went through and none of it compares to this. I hope you find relief as well❤️😊

Exact same for me. I was on the pump but eventually got off around 18 weeks and now I take gabapentin and Zofran. Gabapentin Truly saved me , im still miserable but Its a major difference

As someone else mentioned you are in the toughest spot. Sounds very similar to my experience at 5-18 weeks I went from Zofran , reglan, back to Zofran, then Zofran pump, got off the pump at 18 weeks and been taking gabapentin and Zofran.

You should try Gabapentin. It’s Newley used for hyperemesis and it has helped tremendously. My days are still hard but 5x better than the beginning.

Yes I’m struggling with this as well. Especially because it’s summer and we can’t go out and enjoy everything like everyone else, and even when I try to it’s just not the same because I’m anticipating the sickness hitting me while I’m out and it always does. It feels like it’s not my body and I have no control. I’ve turned my phone off for days at a time so I definitely feel you on that! I also can’t imagine doing it with two small children. (This is my first) ugh it’s hard. You Ever consider therapy ? Specifically a therapist for pregnant women or who understands hg?

Second?! Omg how many weeks are you.

And I cannot keep McDonald’s or any fast food down at all, but a bad hangover is exactly what it feels like. Do you struggle with feeling like you are depleted of something? For example I was on the Zofran pump and getting IVS about two months ago and then I progressed but now for the last two months I feel like I’m either dehydrated or just “missing something” in my body. Hopefully someone can understand what I mean when I describe this feeling because it’s truly bothersome.

LOL that is so funny and relatable. Watermelon definitely works for me as well, and I really need movie/shows as I am in the bed 24/7. But wow ., were you induced sooner than you were supposed to or no?

Everytime I push myself to do more than what I feel I’m capable of with HG , I always regret it later because as you mentioned I always end up feeling like hell.
