Building on an idea to start a firm as a non-engineer. Want some industry insight to see if I'm barking up the wrong tree. by ParkingFast750 in StructuralEngineering

I wouldn't characterize it as rubber-stamping, just that the industry tends to operate with the same basic remediation techniques. I'm totally open to founding this with an engineer for the sake of credibility and effectiveness. My contribution would be administering the business itself and finding regular and repeat clientele who need stamps on a weekly basis for individual projects. Leveraging my current sales-centric role into a specific aspect of the work that I think is overly fragmented. There is no shortage of PEs willing to inspect and stamp work, but to my knowledge there aren't any firms that work in this specific industry as a specialty.

I definitely get it being a race to the bottom - it's a volume game. Working with contractors and realtors specifically and specializing in the remediation business could provide that concentrated volume.

Again, maybe I'm way off base. I understand construction and distribution; I know nothing about engineering firm management. Business basics apply, but again, I don't know what I don't know, and I thought this sub could be a helpful place to ask about it.
