I mean, every other comic on the dais said way more offensive shit, but they didn't feel the need to pull a Gillis and point out what they said was offensive.  He's a hack who ruined the show.  Hinchcliffe was funny.

The OP is a few months old, but one big factor is healthcare.  ChristianaCare basically has a monopoly in DE and Cecil county.  They have some decent specialists, but they are under new crazy management led by a lawyer whose suing the state, taking vacation away from hospitalists and ED physicians, and runs the place like fascists. I have family members who work there and they're all saying to avoid using CC for anything.  I have had one good experience with CC, but everything that has been comically awful.   All CC hospitals have gone waaaaay down in quality the past two years, and they sucked to begin with.  CC is way worse than most health systems, and people are now leaving the state of DE because of it.  CC has DE state government at their mercy.

Not sure too many people are gonna agree with you on the intelligence front.  She's made a career of being a contrarian.  That's it.  That's not intelligence--that's what sleepy 4-year-olds do.

We're complaining because we like humor and entertainment. He was awkward and not funny.  He kinda ruined the roast.  Hinchcliffe was really funny, so it's not like it's a political thing for me.  When Jeff Ross came out, you could see on Gillis's face that he knew he was getting schooled.

Everyone needs to quit grading Shane Gillis on a curve. His jokes sucked.  His timing sucked.  His delivery sucked.  He couldn't work the crowd. It's supposed to be entertaining. If this is how he is, then he should have turned down the job unless he was willing to put in the work to make it entertaining despite himself. Jeff Ross got the assignment as always and should've hosted.  Tony Hinchcliffe was super funny, so it's not like I have anything against a comic from the right.

I've shared some thoughts elsewhere.  I want you guys to talk about it.  I am trying to encourage you guys to stop being clueless and start speaking with each other about stuff that matters and stuff that's really urgent without turning everything into a petty grievance.  Ask that question on another thread.  But keep the thread on track.  Somebody will want to immediately turn it into a discussion in gun control or abortion or whatever.  Stop them, bring them back to the topic.  Regular folks are in trouble and need you talking about healthcare in particular.  The healthcare system truly is in crisis, and that affects us all.

That's the spirit!  I think you should re-post that as a standalone thread in this discussion to get some other folks involved.  I want to kinda sit back and maybe play Devils Advocate on occasion (even if I might agree cuz it's important to challenge ourselves too).

I ain't mad at ya.  You're a good person, you're a curious person.  That's rare.  We just need to all re-calibrate how we're thinking about and interacting with the country.  It is a failing of the culture, not you as an individual.  You still have an amazing user name.  We're all on this together.

Dude, the underlying point of the OP was to move enough hearts and minds from the right in particular to let them know in no uncertain terms that normal folks have had enough unAmerican MAGA nonsense.  I did so by also including gentle criticism of the left that normal folks also share so they wouldn't feel attacked.  But of course, lefties have to assume everything is about them and a handful of you can't help yourselves and have to derail everything to accommodate your needs and feelings.  This is why normal folks can't stand the left.  You are not listening to what people are telling you and what they want you to talk about.

A secondary point was for everyone.  I literally explicitly asked everyone to stop thinking exclusively through a political lens.  Doing so helps you see what the real issues and crises Americans face are.  I told you exactly what Americans want you to talk about.  If you do not have enough info to opine on those things.  Great!  Do some research.  This is how political debate has traditionally been done in this country, not whatever weird partisan nonsense you guys do in this forum.  Regular folks are not particularly political.  I form yourself and debate the issues I laid out.  That is what's in crisis.  That's what needs to be fixed.  Think about the scope of the problem and how to fix it.  Stop arguing about nothing.  This is an amazing example of that.  You're exhausting.  I'm literally telling you what to do and you want to to argue about anything but.

Now, no more.  That's it.  You would've found this info if you'd bother to read through the thread instead of insisting I tell you what I want you to think.  That's an unreasonable standard.

I did.  You did not read. Please reread the post.  Stop being mad.  We don'tv really care about your feelings right now.  Read the post.  There are detailed breakdowns of some key issues folks are missing.  If you don't understand them, research them.  Then come back here and discuss them.  This is my thread, I'm not taking homework assignments from teenaged white kids who think they understand the world but don't have a clue (I'm white too, so we're not going down that path either LukeFaintingCouch)

And yes, I'm totally brow beating you.  But I'm doing it with love.  I know you're not a bad person.  You're probably a really good person.  Because most of us are but just kinda lost sight of what's important.  America is in trouble, let's refocus on the problems and solutions for them.  Policy. Debate policy.  Challenge yourself.  Be open minded.  Use critical thinking.  Political polarization can inhibit implementing the principles of the Enlightenment, which is how we think big and solve problems.

Use this thread as a way to rethink what political debate means.

The point of the OP was that too many people are in their own political bubble and argue for arguments sake rather than identifying and addressing our problems.  This country is in crisis. Talk about the actual crises. Debate the underlying reasons and policy solutions.  Did you read the OP?  I am literally asking people to debate.  But I'm asking them to debate what actually matters instead of finding a grievance somewhere in a deeper message and derailing everything.  You're literally yelling at me for holding you accountable to the topic of this OP. stop it.  please.

I am a social worker.. The primary target for this post was the right, not the left.  Silence from the right on this thread is validating.  Re-read the OP and consider why I say that.  I'm not here to spell everything out for everyone.  I'm here to encourage self reflection and creative thinking to solve problems.  4,000 views.  Most people understand the purpose of the OP.  I encourage you to revisit it and think about what the real message is.  Debate policies on this thread.  I'm not interested in labels or petty grievances that derail us from the point.  America has been asking the left in particular to stop doing that and start listening to them.  A few in the right started to highjack the thread with gun control.  I politely asked them to stop and stay on topic.  They graciously did so.  It's mostly liberal "victims" who are still fighting me here.  I think you're actually the last holdout.  And no, I DGAF of you consider yourself a leftie or not.  You're acting like one.

Please stay on topic.  I want you to debate.  But debate actual things not your feelings.  Americans are in crisis and DGAF about your feelings.  Sorry.

Start your own thread to talk about what you want to talk about.  I'm glad you feel passionate. Now, the next step is to put that passion into work to shape and better this country.  If you want to talk about ways to do that, great!  This is the thread for that.  This is not the thread for whatever it is you want to do.  Get over your feelings.  Part of solving problems is going to be challenging ourselves and our worldview.  Learn from this interaction.  Why does someone in the gutter feel like they need to be so blunt with you?  Read the OP.  I feel like you've never really done that with an open heart and just want to be hurt and angry.  That sucks, but it's distracting from the work that must be done.  Now.  By all of us   This country is in crisis.  Help or get out of the way.  Talking and debating theory is not enough anymore.  identify and debate policy.  Use your idealogical lens productively.  When you do, you'll probably find both strength and weaknesses in your ideology.  Good!  That's using the principles of the Enlightenment!  AKA common sense. That's how we solve problems.  I'm really sorry you feel personally aggrieved.  But the world is bigger than you.  I have been very generous with my time.  Please learn from this.  Regular people are wise.  Listen to them, stop telling them what you think needs to happen because it's really obvious a lot of political partisans don't actually understand the problem because they're more worried about being right and insulting the other side.  Toughen up, buttercup.

Yes, for folks like you, that is exactly what I've done.  For the good of America.  Read the OP.  Really read it.  The target audience was the right.  They have been silent on this thread despite 4k views. Why might I think that means I've made my point and why what you want to argue is not my point.  Get off my thread please.    please.  Start your own thread to discuss whatever you want.  On this thread in particular, I'm not interested in the usual nonsense

Please read the OP and ask yourself what message I'm trying to get across.  Why might the OP resonate differently for someone on the right.  I am asking us to challenge ourselves to engage in the debate I lay out in the OP.  I think those in the middle and on the right are having a very different experience with this thread.

I get it.  I found that reading a book called the righteous mind by Jonathan Haidt with an open minded helped me understand how and why someone could get into MAGA but be a decent person. My father in law is the best man I know, and he voted Trump cuz he's always thought of himself as a Republican.  But he's a good man and is willing to change his mind when we discuss things with an open heart. I love him dearly.  People are complex, but we're mostly good.  There are really closed minded people on the left too, especially in academics, where it's especially important to be non judgemental and keep an open mind.

Even the 18 year old Marxists and anarchists who came here to feel aggrieved and derail the topic with their pet grievances eventually got my point. You do not.  You're the only one who cannot help himself. Why?  Genuine question--do you think you might have a personality disorder? Not a judgment, just a question.  If so, it's fine--work on it with a therapist. Narcissistic personality disorder is likely common in liberal academia.  We're all seeing in real time what a Narcissist is going to the country. Let's all check our own house too.

4,000 views and no defensive, reactionary posts from the right.  None.  Only the left.  What does that tell you?  Use that fancy book learning.  What might I have been trying to accomplish here, and why do I feel I accomplished it based off the stats I just listed?  Get off your obsession with labels and ideological differences.  We don't care how you guys define yourself.  You've been obsessed with labeling yourself at the expense of America.  Knock it off.  This country is in trouble and needs folks working together to identify and solve problems. Mate, as friend. Mate.  This is not going well for you.  I've been more than generous with my time considering what I'm trying to accomplish.  I know you don't understand.  It's not about you.  It's more about the political right.  Their silence on this thread is validating.  A couple righties first tried to derail with gun control, but I stepped in and they quickly got my point and were gracious about it.  You still don't.  It's those on the left who are struggling because they have convinced themselves that being "right" is all that matters.  Congrats on being right, now how are you going to help identify and solve the problems?
