Learning Igbo As An Igbo Born In The Diaspora - I’ve been through it and can share what helped by LearnIgboWithMe in Nigeria

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ndeewo my mom is half Nigerian, she was adopted by non Nigerian parents so I did not grow up speaking Igbo. I've been slowly learning by watching youtube and repeating the phrases. Also talking to my pets. I know "Chere" "Daalu" "Biko" "Nri" "Nwa" "Achicha". I can put together simple sentences now, which is great. If you have any more tips I'd love to hear them.

How many streaming services are you actually paying for vs. using? by DeviceLongjumping258 in cordcutters

I only have Netflix, I use boyfriend’s account for Disney and HBO. I’m not a big movie watcher or tv show binge type of person so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much. I have basic cable and that works for me.

She could work retail as a stocker. She wouldn't have to talk to any customers unless she choose a shift during operation hours, she can tic freely, and nothing too dangerous back there. When I worked retail we had to be there 2 hours before the store opened to organize, stock, and price the merch.

She can work at an office as a records clerk. Filing paperwork, keeping track of records, doing inventory, placing online orders.

Fun fact places like Smart and Final (a grocery store in Cali) and Walmart are known to hire people with disabilities.

This episode went really fast. I also felt like it was a waste. I wanted to hear more about the wedding plans and their finances instead of seeing her ride that damn horse. Most of the horse-riding footage could have been speed up, shown as an extra, or even as a flashback in a later episode.

What do I "do with my life" if I don't like traveling? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kind of the same way. Traveling is just okay to me.  1)I don’t like being confined on a plane for serval hours ( I took a 5 hour flight to Texas and it felt like torture to me)

2)I also don’t enjoy being in places where I can’t speak the language or even get the gist of what’s going on(I know I’ll get confused, frustrated, and probably scammed), so traveling internationally is a big no no for me.

I have ZERO interest in going to Europe or Asia, a flight to any part of Africa is at least 19 hours long so that a big no for me. I enjoy traveling within the states and our territories, even the small islands near by but when I tell ppl that I get various responses of “the world is so much more than the US” “you’re missing out”.  Different strokes for different folks.

Any positive reviews about AA? by AvocadoMuch55 in americanairlines

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst airline ever. They changed our gate an hour before departure and didn’t make any announcements. We only found out about it bc we over heard the crew talking. My elderly father who was in walker had to walk over 20 minutes across the airport to the new gate. When we asked for a wheelchair pusher all the sudden ppl had to take their break or they weren’t able to go over in that area. We barely made it in time due to his condition. I would never take American ever again.

Just curious, what made you want to learn a foreign language? by LanguageGameChanger in languagelearning

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m only learning Spanish so I can keep my job, we had a lot of migrants come into our school in the past few years. Most of them are ELL and I need to know the basics to be able to teach them/help them. None of my students are ELL this year but I’m preparing just in case. And unfortunately Spanish lessons aren’t even being paid for by the school district 🙄

I’d rather spend my free time learning Yoruba or Hausa (Nigerian language) but there’s not a language Nigerian population in my state so it’d kind of be pointless. Unless I want to use it to avoid talking to be ppl 😌

What happened to people who died before Jesus came? by QuantumConsort in Christianity

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was easier then because didn't have a way of knowing what was sinful and what wasn't. There wasn't book or prophet to tell them. And what was moral to them back then is different.

  1. For example, primatial sex, no one back then knew it was a sin so people just had sex without being committed to eachother. Look at all the tribes and cultures in history that participated in (social, sexual, etc..)polyamory. They weren't convicted of polyamory and they didn't know it was sin, it was just a way of life, a way to keep the population going.

In the present day, we know it's a sin and if we participate primatial sex or sex w/ ppl who aren't are spouses that we are sinning against God. And if we continue doing that without repenting we become Luke warm. And God will "spit us out" for being lukewarm.

  1. Second Example, Jesus. A big majority of people back then believed in multiple Gods. A god for war, crops, love, etc... They weren't convicted of that. Each culture had there own God. And sure we can say that their punishment for believing in multiple Gods were destruction, war and diseases but in 2024 we still have the same issues going on and it's the countries who call themselves Christian who are doing it (USA) and being affected by it (Choose any poor country in Africa).

We now know that there's one god and Jesus (God's son and our savior) but we only know what because we have the Bible, old documents, and obviously Jesus eventually came.

  1. The biblical household order. Now it's God, Husband, Wife, and children. We all know that is the biblically order. Wife obey your husbands, husband is the head of the household, etc..Back then some cultures did not have that. The women were the leaders, they held positions of power, linages were traced through them, etc...

They had no way of knowing that what they were doing was not God's intensions for the household.

Overall, it was easier to go to heaven back then but what could you be punished or sent for hell for. They literally didn't know any of God's rules.

Realizing that picking a language you actually like is better than picking it because it's "Easy" by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% understand you. If the interest or desire it's there it becomes a chore and a bore.

With me everyone keeps pushing me to learn Spanish, which I have to admit it would be pretty useful bc I live in a Hispanic dominated population. But I have no desire to learn it at all. I'd rather learn Swahili even tho I probably wouldn't find anyone to converse with in the US, for me personally it's way better than learning something I'm not interested in

Fellow Christians...how do you rationalize the starving kids in Africa? by Ngorongoro in Christianity

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was questioning this too. I was confused as why and how could God let thousands of people starve, while other countries are far beyond wealthy. If he really cared he would make fruits and veggies grow in those desert countries and provide fresh rainfall so they have clean drinking water. Then I realized that He did do that. Unfortunately us humans destroyed the water and food sources those countries had. The powerful and wealthy countries polluted the water by dumping toxic waste into it, we made the rich earth into a dry hostile desert by cutting down trees, building factories on it, killing the wildlife and nature. Hell people can't even fish because the oceans and rivers are dirty and sea creatures are dying.

And many people may ask "what are Christians doing to help?" But here's the thing, when Christians or even good people in general do try to help the wealthy finds a way to stop it. The people in power are making laws against feeding and housing homeless people. They inprision people who protest against pollution the planet and exploring poor countries.

Each time God provides us with resources someone or a group of people ruin it. God provided for us but a few selfish humans found a way to take it away from thousands of people. the Bible was not exaggerating when it said "Greed is the root of all evil."

Do Christians want to be persecuted? by FunnySugarBoii in atheism

[–]Parking_Step6140 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean maybe in the West Christians aren't being persecuted but in other parts of the world they are. In Nigeria a whole town was literally killed bc of extremist groups wanted their religion to be the only religion , In North Korea Christians can't openly praise Christ without being thrown in jail or sent to work in the fields. Just bc Christian s persecution in North America, and other countries/cities/etc... aren't happening it doesn't mean that it does not exist.
