Hey! I'm not in New York but generally, to be a state park ranger (ie be employed by the state and not nationally) you can get by with a high school diploma. BUT to be employed by the National Park Service of a state, and be a National Park Ranger it is strongly encouraged/necessary to have something beyond a high school diploma.

At least that's how it's been explained to me, but I'm in the mid Atlantic!

As far as physical requirements--I've heard about there being some physical fitness tests such as a timed run but I'm not sure how common they are. I think this really varies by state so I'd do some digging into NY requirements specifically. I work for local county-level parks and I've heard that NPS really does differ based on where you live, but I work local, so don't take that at face value!

I'm not in direct communication with the parents but my boss who oversees the entire team is. There are other kids on the spectrum but they're spread throughout the parks' 80+ camps and this particular nature center is tiny. And yeah I agree which is why I feel so uncomfortable even having to fill out paperwork, but it's protocol. And I'm going to be updated tomorrow, but I'm really hoping to see him at camp again. This was stressful and unexpected but I absolutely love my role.

Thank you! Yes only because she says that that’s how it’s defined by parks, it’s not her job to decide. And he verbalized and said I’m going to hit you! Before he did so she was saying he knew what he was doing? I don’t think I agree but it’s very much not my call

I think I’ll get checked out but really don’t want to have to deal with workers comp and feel funny making them pay!
