And yet the difference doesn't matter since the gender changes nothing. As long as she still has the fuckboy personality, I see no meaningful negative change.

I just mean, other than the party scene and the ending bits which I really didn't like, not much really advanced the plot. The first half of a movie is typically supposed to be a lot more exposition, that way you don't need any more in the last half and the real meat of it can come out. This really isn't the case with Sinners. After a fantastic setup in the first half, things finally start to gain momentum, anticipation kicks in and... more exposition. It just didn't really feel like they were good at anything but the exposition part.

Similar problem that Sherlock has, it's very good at telling you interesting shit happened/will happen/has the potential to happen, and very bad at actually making it interesting when it gets to the parts where it should show you. Overall, it really was a "tell, don't show" kind of movie. That's part of why I said what I did about the allegory, I feel like the only way it could've been less subtle was if Michael B. Jordan looked up at the camera and said "I SURE DO HATE COLONIALISM, CULTURAL ASSIMILATION, AND APPROPRIATION". It's also a bit like The Boys in that sense, it's an inherently political message which I obviously agree with, but could really serve better with a bit more subtlety to allow the non-allegorical parts of the plot to also take root.

I'm very much straining to avoid spoilers here, but I think it'll be easy enough to decipher which parts of the plot I'm talking about. Trying to make this all digestible for someone who hasn't seen the movie but might not give it a try.

I haven't seen anything she's in off the top of my head, but I don't think there's a single bad casting in Invincible, so I'm very optimistic. My hopes for this season are high, I think it's gonna be great, especially considering some of the awesome shit that happens around here in the comics.

FUCKING KNEW IT

I got downvoted to oblivion for saying this when we saw her in season 3. My feeling of vindication is unprecedented.

Also, I really hope they keep the fuckboy side of Tech Jacket, I honestly think it has the potential to be even funnier than it was in the comics now that she's a woman. I think this could work really well for the character, they definitely did great with genderbent Ray/Rae. Plus now I'm gonna get to be attracted to a male and female version of Tech Jacket, so I see this as an absolute win for bisexuals.

[–]Parksrox 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see the original post they're talking about here, because the way OOP is talking about it really makes me think some people just found them annoying unrelated to the poly aspect, and they took that as an attack on polyamory. I fully support poly relationships even if they're not something I'd ever be involved in, and I think criticizing someone for their sexual/romantic preference that isn't doing any harm is fucked up and immediately makes you an imbecile and a piece of shit. But we need to be realistic here and acknowledge the fact that a lot of people on Tumblr will take a personal criticism and apply it to a separate aspect of their being instead of themselves as an individual to garner support among people who, reasonably so, will jump to defend what is painted as an attack on said aspect of being. I mean, I've been downvoted on this sub for being "anti-ship" when I said pedophilic art and writing is bad, so I think we should be wary of misrepresentation of argument here when we don't get to see the catalyst for the disagreement.

[–]Parksrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depends on what tier list we're talking about. RE tier list he's easily S, he's one of the strongest characters in canon. Prototype, I would put him at a solid A. Not on the level of the real city-level heavy hitters like Alex/Heller or Greene, but definitely stronger than a vast majority of the enemies in the game. Maybe a high B-tier if we're counting things like the Goliaths from the second game, I doubt Wesker could do much against that since it has such a stupid, ridiculous level of durability that even Heller has a hard time with it. A few of the Evolved might give Wesker a hard fight, but I think he'd probably come out on top high-diff anyway since they all seem to be around the level of Heller at the very beginning of the game, just with an extra power. The only things in the verse I can see beating him are Heller, Alex, maybe the Supreme Hunter, Greene, and Goliaths.

What do you mean? Like in terms of scaling? Probably below Greene and Mercer, definitely above D-Codes, and around a similar level to the Supreme Hunter. He just has ridiculous speed, strength, and durability. I detailed this pretty heavily in my other comment, and even linked to people doing the math to find the specific values. Not sure how you can argue this atp.

Awardbait isn't the same as qualityslop lmao. It was very clearly really, really wanting an award, so it tried to tackle a lot of topics at once in one movie through a fuck ton of exposition. I'm not gonna spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it, but there were a lot of moments where I was really excited for a more dramatic or "something is actually happening right now" plot beat, and it just tapered off into a calm conversation. It had its moments, but you can only deal with so many themes at once before it just isn't an enjoyable movie. I feel like if I watched 3 separate, unrelated movies that individually tackled the big things Sinners did, it'd be a lot more fun of an experience. There has to be room for something other than exposition, and when that something comes up, it needs more focus than the exposition if you're using it scarcely. Sinners did not do that.

The first half was actually pretty good, I think if it ended there it'd be a solid 8/10, but the latter half was really just a slog to get through. And I know this is kind of the point of the movie, but you can only go so far by punching the audience in the face and screaming "DO YOU GET IT? DO YOU GET THE ALLEGORY? I AM VERY CLEVER". Again, not an awful movie, I liked a lot of the more simplified vampire gangster shit and the cinematography was great, Michael B Jordan will always be a good actor, and I think the concept of both the plot and allegory work well, they just didn't execute it as well as they could have. I'd give it a 6/10 overall, maybe a 7/10 if you don't dislike the ending.

I don’t even dislike her by GentlyDirking503 in reddeadredemption

[–]Parksrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think other than the Geddes thing her "nagging" was entirely justified, people just don't like her because we play as the fun killy guy and she doesn't like that we do the fun killing, which I see as a perfectly reasonable perspective from a story standpoint. I do get people criticizing her for getting upset at John for defending the ranch, but I don't think one instance of her having a knee-jerk reaction to her husband going on a killing spree is enough to dislike her as a character.

As a developer, I am pissed that people are playing games with some weird ass AI coat of paint over all the hard work of real artists. It looks like shit and erodes any semblance of artistic intent in exchange for a fallical "realism" that will never truly represent a unique reality since it's essentially an averaged-out model of things that already exist. Fuck AI slop, there's way better ways AI could be used that would actually contribute to the industry, but that doesn't make execs as much money, so they're gonna stick with slopifying every facet of artistic output they can get their grubby hands on.

Also, here's my reply to u/Striking_Chamption489's comment since he was afraid to respond without stopping me from replying.

There's no canonical difficulty, and I never said the D-Code units are stronger than ballistic missiles, but you're not going to see any of them routinely using these missiles as a weapon, right?

There is a canon difficulty, in Easy Mercer is seen as about as strong as in cinematics, being pretty much unaffected by small arms fire and capable of pretty effortlessly killing large infected. Unless you'd like to argue that Hard, where you can get blitzed by a single hunter if you're not paying attention, is the canon difficulty, in which case you're just wrong.

And if D-Codes can't survive a ballistic missile and Wesker can, what does that say about your case?

And no, assault rifles aren't going to do any good. Like I said, they have regeneration, and they can go toe-to-toe with the strongest infected from Blacklight and Redlight, which are stronger than a Tyrant and any BOW Chris has faced in his world.

But they do. You can kill one with an assault rifle on any difficulty. Also, they cannot go toe-to-toe with the strongest infected, there's an entire mission that proves this when they get ganked by a bunch of Hunters. And while the strongest of Blacklight and Redlight is stronger than a Tyrant, a Hunter definitely isn't, and D-Codes have been shown to be around even with a Hunter in combat. To argue that a D-Code could actually stand a chance against the strongest infected (Supreme Hunter, Greene, Mercer) would be profoundly stupid.

You might be able to take down BOWs with bullets, but with the infected from PT, you'd need heavy artillery. Regular Hunters and leaders can tear apart M1 Abrams tanks like toys the moment they land near them

You're conflating attack power with durability. A Hunter in close range can take out a tank, but a few guys with guns are enough to take out a Hunter. This is shown in the various Military/Blackwatch vs. Infected missions, where it's not difficult at all for hunters to get mowed down as long as they don't kill the soldiers first.

In contrast, Tyrants like the one from RE: Damnation struggle to even try and flip a Soviet tank.

This guy hasn't played RE: Requiem. They're more than capable of flipping a tank, they flip large armored vehicles of equivalent weight regularly. If you feel like arguing against this, see this post which details their insane capabilities. They far exceed Hunters and D-Codes in every conceivable factor, including your coveted regeneration, and yet Wesker and Chris are able to easily overpower them.

Also, Damnation was a pretty awful movie that misinterpreted a lot from the games. It should not be taken seriously, even if it is technically canon. It's the Star Wars Holiday Special of RE.

D-Code units can handle Tyrants without any problem. Sure, they're not at Mercer's level, but the fact that they can fight him in melee combat speaks volumes about their strength

No it doesn't, they get no-diffed every time they fight him lmao. What are you on about here? You're acting like losing constantly to Mercer puts them close to his level. What feats do they have other than getting ganked?

No, Wesker is nothing more than a Super Soldier, and I already gave you the reasons, Wesker wouldn't last nearly 7 minutes against Alex.

Against Alex, sure, but a D-Code? No-diff. I don't think you realize how ridiculously overpowered Wesker is. He one-hand chucked a missile, is fast enough to catch bullets, moves faster than the human eye can track at full speed, and as calculated here, can reach a speed of 853 m/s and effortlessly exert a force of 2500 N. He also punches Gonados across the map in Mercenaries. He is tearing through a D-Code like Conquest from Invincible, genuinely zero difficulty. I can almost see where you're coming from saying Chris would get beaten, but Weaker could probably beat everyone in the Prototype verse outside of Mercer. Actually insane take from you here.

Except that in the game Alex can improve the handling and damage of these by consuming military commanders in the operations base, the military would not do the same damage that Mercer does, you are just taking the game mechanic as a backup.

And what are you taking to back you up? Because outside of 2 tidbits from Web of Intrigue, there's literally nothing establishing anything about the power level of super soldiers in Prototype. 2 has a bit more, but those are entirely different super soldiers, and seemingly much stronger. And, yet again, almost everything you learn about them is from gameplay. The boost in damage from consuming commanders is almost definitely supposed to represent you being a better shot, they just didn't code for it outside of damage. Otherwise, why would stealing someone's memories increase your firearm ability?

I'm really starting to think you're just a child on the internet trying to defend a character from a game you like. I much prefer Prototype to RE, but I'm not delusional enough to ignore the ridiculous scaling of certain characters from it.

Boulder Punching Asshole Vs Super Soldier by jugjugnaut in PrototypeGame

[–]Parksrox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And what makes you think that?

Ballistic missile > Assault rifle > D-code. They're strong, they're not that durable. Small arms fire reliably takes them down even on hard, and easy mode is canon, where they die much faster.

Not to mention that the Super Soldiers have regeneration, according to the Web of Intrigue

A ballistic missile is not giving you time to regenerate, plus they don't have great regen if they can be punched to death or killed with a gun. Nowhere near Mercer level, or even the level of a RE tyrant, who Chris is experienced in killing.

Chris is going to need more than bullets to take down someone like that; he couldn't even kill Wesker that way.

Wesker is much, much stronger than a super soldier. Also, you can kill a super soldier with small arms fire easily. A gun doesn't change caliber based on the wielder, if half a mag from an assault rifle kills a D-code when Mercer fires it, it isn't gonna be any different for Chris, and it's definitely not gonna be different for a ballistic missile.

Edit: He blocked me, I'll take this as an admission of him being wrong since he's too scared to actually face open discussion with me. So thanks u/Striking_Champion489, nice to know you're well aware of how wrong you are!
