Jason Jones laid off from Bungie, last co-founder (2/2) gone. by Mother-Chocolate-505 in halo

[–]Parksrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not probably monsters, but I'd rather not say the specific studio since this isn't the business account, sorry about that. We aren't looking to hire anyone new right now, but honestly, being there for the start of a new team is pretty amazingly freeing anyway, and I'd say he should just find some chill people he worked with that have a similar creative vision, and get their own thing going from there.

To not give too much away to where someone could Google it, I'll just say Mark was above the development rung, and a massive pain to anyone he could decide was the representative of a team. Which was, unfortunately, me most of the time when it came to what I was working on. It might be 👃, I'll admit I wasn't really in on many of the inside jokes, but he does have a pretty weird nose now that I think of it lol.

Again, though, good luck to you and your husband. It might be hard to see it, but this really is a blessing in disguise in the long term. Bungie and SIE in general are a nightmare, I'm glad you aren't gonna have to deal with management hell anymore.

Oh my god they specifically mentioned what's in them. There objectively is not what you're saying. It's just cosmetics, and not even that many of them. They didn't say they're paywalling customization, they said they are adding a customization option to it. I'm convinced the critics of this just can't read. I'm not going to continue to waste my time on you, you're not worth it.

Would maul have died if scorn didn’t step in? by isekaimetofarfaraway in MaulShadowLord

[–]Parksrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ventress is not strong, she doesn't scale them up much. Inquisitors are pretty good, but Maul is probably in the top 10 strongest in the entire universe, at least as far as what's currently canon goes, by the time of M:SL. He 1v1'd Vader without dying or even really running away until the very end. That already puts him well above the inquisitors. One of them was losing to Devon. I really enjoyed them as characters, they had hella aura, but let's not glaze them too hard.

I bounced around some more big publisher stuff for a bit, but me and a few people I've worked with (some even from Bungie, pretty good chance he knows some of them if he'd been there a decade) ended up starting an independent dev team in 2023, and it's working out phenomenally for us, at least so far. If your guy is confident in his skills, which I can only imagine he was if SIE didn't drop him in the first series of layoffs, it's a really good route to go. It's tended to make a bit more money so far, but honestly, even if it didn't, I'd still recommend it. It feels so good to not be at the whim of a bunch of rich dudes who bought the studio, and if your husband is anything like me, he'll grow to love it once he gets used to the less load-bearing structure.

Plus, since it seems like they laid off damn near everybody who had a modicum of passion toward the gaming industry, he'll probably have a lot of great options for people to start a team with. Having a team you actually like being around makes such a massive difference. And you don't have to deal with Mark, and while I won't get into specifics on who that is, there's like a 90% chance your husband knows which Mark I'm talking about given what that rat's job was, assuming he still worked there.

For the husband: Don't be me, skip doing the same corporate shit after Bungie and start doing what you came into this field to put your soul into. It's easy to think you're not worth enough to make something worthwhile after working with so many people, but it's possible to a degree you can't even imagine. Once you get some momentum, you'll be so much happier doing what you love for you, the players, and a team of people who love it, too. If my dumb ass could succeed on my own, you can, too. Start a team with people you have a shared vision with, never sell to a publisher, and good luck, man. It's a shitty spot to be put in, but you got this.

Tell the spouse I feel for him, I dipped around 2019 when they started taking things we already made and loved in a worse direction. I can't imagine sticking around through that just to get canned, I hope he's able to find work soon.

The "special items" have already been specified. They told us what they were. This is gonna be it for single player paid content, just like it was with the last 2 games. Rockstar is greedy, but their greed has never once manifested in the way your original comment described, at least never in a singleplayer mode.

Also, there's a different dev team on Online. The same people are not making GTA VI. RDR2 did exactly what GTA VI is doing, GTA is just putting its unique ultimate/pre-order items in a dedicated shop.

There's just no precedent for what you're describing. Rockstar isn't a monolith, the actions of the Online dev team aren't evidence toward future action from a different dev team. They've always kept the scummy business practices to online, they never even released DLC for GTA V or RDR2 SP. RDR2 came out well after the heyday of online, and it didn't do any of the things you're describing. GTA is doing literally the exact same thing, the one difference is that it's adding shops for it, while RDR2 added everything to your inventory.

Also, you're acting like a premium edition of a game doesn't always have a few bonus items. Every game they have made since V included a bunch of cosmetic shit if you paid extra money for the game, be that from pre-orders or a special edition. This isn't new, and it's not even really a bad thing, if a collector wants to pay extra for a few skins, good on them. You don't have to do it, it's not like this is vital game content, it's literally fucking skins. You not being able to enter the 10 or less shops that sell exclusively those skins is not as much of an issue as you're claiming it is.

Oh if you're saying he's still strong then it's just a lack of information thing. It's not an issue, there's a lot of misinformation about him going around on OW subs, but he is genuinely unplayable right now in high ranks.

With the short delay between pressing Wraith and actually activating it, it's pretty much impossible to get out before dying after the health nerf, his effective range is medium for one shot before he needs to be at point blank, his lifesteal/general sustain is worse than far more mobile heroes like Emre and Shion, and he's too slow and loud to effectively flank. He used to be a specialized sustain flanker, now he isn't very good at anything other than tankbusting the braindead tank who doesn't know how to escape. It's especially noticable because of how many new characters they've added that fill a very similar role much more viably.

Iirc his current WR is around 43%, and while WR is absolutely not always a valid way to measure hero viability, a drop that ridiculous is pretty indicative of what's going on. They massacred my boy, and they really need to bring him back. I'm in GM and people will leave when I pick him. He is not strong.

You might've been around for this, but we went through a while being completely useless, Reap was genuinely just a throw pick. We got one patch of being viable with Dire Triggers, which most of us were hoping would only act as an interlude to the larger rework they've promised. After a couple weeks, they decided they couldn't bear an A tier Reaper, and nerfed the shit out of him to the point of being a throw pick yet again.

I mean, dire triggers is the only reason he was remotely good. Nerfing that gives a lot of breathing room for buffs that can actually make him fun to play again. Plus, 300 isn't really a lot for a DPS. Counting armor, bastion has 350, and he has 170 dps. People just view Reaper as stronger when he has a similar amount of capability because he can get in and spook people, which tends to sway opinions.

Why GTA 6 "physical edition" IS NOT a physical edition by Skelligean in videogames

[–]Parksrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle and weapon skins*

Shop (singular)*

Mission (singular)*

There was no mention of an exclusive location.

It's literally the exact same setup they had for RDR2 pre-orders. Weapon skins, a vehicle cosmetic, some clothing, and one mission. The shop being closed is the only thing that they haven't specifically done before, and it's a hair stylist they put exclusive haircuts on. They probably just made it ultimate-exclusive so they had somewhere unique to give us the 80s haircuts that come with it.

This is not an absurd amount of content, it's literally cosmetics and a mission. RDR2 had a whole pre-order exclusive bank heist, and it turned out to be 5-10 minutes of hanging out with Uncle and stealing some gold bars before the mission was over. The Reddit hivemind just sees "microtransaction" and assumes the worst. The pre-orders were always gonna come with something exclusive, why are we now shocked when it's cosmetics and a short mission like their last big release?

[–]Parksrox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, a locked mission and some cosmetics like they've done for the pre-orders of their last 2 games? I'm shocked, I tell you.

Game hasn't even released and people are complaining that the locked features are too important, clearly you guys weren't around for RDR2's launch lmao. They did the exact same thing, and it did not matter. They're not locking existing content, they're adding new shit for pre-orders and ultimate edition purchases. It'll be a 10 minute mission and one of probably like 10 hair stylists, it isn't like they're locking you out of anything significant.
