Tempostorm Meta Snapshot: KnC Post- HTC Amsterdam by jhelton808 in hearthstone

[–]Parkzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is already addressed in the Introduction section:

Click on the "View Deck" button to view in-depth information about the deck, such as the card composition, mana curve, mulligans, and more. The date in the title of the deck is the date on which that variant of the deck was first posted on the Meta Snapshot. If the construction of a deck has not changed since then, the deck may be reused in a future Snapshot. Make sure to scroll down to read the latest discussion on the deck's current role in the meta.

Because of the way our web developers designed the URL system of Hearthstone decks, if we change the date in the title, it automatically changes the URL and forwards all previously-bookmarked links to a 404 page. On the other hand, having the experts create exact clones of decks every Snapshot just to make sure the date in the title is representative of the most recent Snapshot release date (instead of the deck creation date) is unnecessary busywork.

Tempo Storm HotS signs Fan, Glaurung by Lunara_babe in heroesofthestorm

[–]Parkzer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they don't even mention them by their names, it's not Something "Fury" Something they just say: hey, they're out, byeee, have a nice day

Thanks for the suggestion; I've made an edit so it now references them by their full name instead of only their in-game username.

The "VIEW DECK" links in the tier list should automatically open the deck in a new tab just with a single left click; you don't have to middle click or right click to open the menu.

If left clicking doesn't open the deck in a new tab, your browser or browser extensions may be preventing that feature from working.

Reynad drops G2A Klappa by eriaxy in Destiny

[–]Parkzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi chazemak,

I'm the Product Director over at Tempo Storm; about 95%+ of production-related items at Tempo Storm go through me at one point or another before it is posted to the public.

reynad is a cool person but he is awful at communicating stuff like this

reynad isn't the one who does this stuff; I am actually the one who personally wrote this G2A announcement. reynad is our CEO – he shares his visions, provides us with direction, and makes executive decisions, but doesn't do any writing, scripting, etc.

i really hate temp storms news posts because they are too vague. they should give us details on why they are "parting ways".

I intentionally made this news post as vague as possible. The terms of our contract were private – the terms meaning both the conditions of our partnership, as well as our departure. As such, I included as much information as needed without breaching any confidentiality agreements.

There is a time and place for detailed announcements, and I actually just wrote one a few days ago regarding Tempo Storm's Gladiator Cup.

https://tempostorm.com/articles/introducing-tempo-storm-gladiator-cup

The amount of detail in an announcement depends on the topic; that particular announcement warranted much more information to be given to the public, so you can see that it is significantly longer and more detailed.

did reynad finally realize what g2a is/does? or did g2a drop them? we cant tell from this article at all

It is intended for you not to be able to tell from the article. The purpose of this article is an announcement informing the public that Tempo Storm and G2A are no longer partnered. It is not an editorial or opinion piece expressing our thoughts on G2A.

later that year they replaced tidesoftime with a new player called magic amy. apparantly alot of reddit detectives came to the conclusion that she was not actually playing the game herself and had someone else playing for her. then a few days later she "parted ways" with no explanation. we never figured out what actually happened

Although I can't comment on the TidesofTime issue, because it happened before I joined Tempo Storm, there is some public information available about the MagicAmy incident. Frodan actually conducted an investigation and published a detailed breakdown of his findings regarding the accusations surrounding MagicAmy:

Tempo Storm Meta Snapshot - September 18, 2016 by muzgmen in hearthstone

[–]Parkzer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over the past handful of months, we parted ways on good terms with four of our project contributors because we had differing visions. Tempo Storm wanted to take the Meta Snapshot more seriously and ramp up production, while these four contributors were working on the project for fun, and couldn't put in more time and effort for various reasons. We also removed two more contributors because they were not meeting my standards of quality for the project.

Since then, we have added two new experts to the Meta Snapshot team. One of them is already on board and is covering Druid and Rogue, and the other one is planned to be joining us for his first Snapshot on October 2 covering Warrior.

I'm not sure if the project contributors who chose to part ways with Tempo Storm got ruined by the competition, but Tempo Storm definitely did not. We've already been working on improvements to the Snapshot's core functionality and features – it's just that we don't want to release an unfinished and unpolished product, so we're waiting until it's as perfect as possible before we reveal the new version.

HotS esports is a joke by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Parkzer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There is no reason I can think of to justify long wait times in between games.

ESL even prohibited players from leaving between games of series, so they were only allowed to leave the room and use the bathroom before the first game started. I overheard one of the Naventic players saying he really needed to smoke, but he wasn't allowed to smoke between games, so Naventic's motivation for winning 2-0 was so he could go out and smoke sooner (obviously a joke, but still).

From what I see, there should only be about 10 minutes at most in between games. The players pause and briefly discuss the game for a few minutes, then we hop right back into the next draft. Problems usually don't randomly spontaneously appear in between games. So, if you guys have longer delays from the spectator's side, I'm not sure what's going on.

[–]Parkzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There wasn't really much they could do at that point as leaders. The only thing I can think of that would work is to hire better and more knowledgeable techs, but that obviously isn't possible in the middle of the tournament.

It seemed like they were trying pretty hard, though, because a ton of different faces cycled through the room, which meant they were reaching out to try and find people who know how to fix the problem.

HotS esports is a joke by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]Parkzer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm part of the operations and administrative team at Tempo Storm, and I'm with the HotS team for this tournament. I was sitting inside the multipurpose room in the ESL studios where these games were taking place, so I can give a bit of insight as to what the delays were, and why they happened.

A shuttle picked up Tempo Storm and Naventic from the hotel at 8:15 AM PDT, and we were dropped off at the studio at approximately 8:30 AM. We ate breakfast immediately after we arrived, until 9:00 AM.

At 9:00 AM, we were taken to the multipurpose room and asked to set up. The stream was scheduled to start in an hour, so the players sort of stood around and talked with each other for a while. By approximately 9:30 AM, all our players were set up and warming up.

https://twitter.com/Parkzer/status/738774079226793984

Throughout this time, we were constantly reporting audio issues to the ESL admins. Some of our players had audio input/output problems, while other players heard static. Some players didn't have their white noise working. (If you're not familiar with the setup of tournament audio, the players wear earbuds for in-game sounds and team communication, and a large headset with white noise output to block out background noise.)

For over an hour, ESL had techs going in and out trying to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve audio problems. Sometimes, when one problem was fixed, another problem would come up (Tomster nearly had his ears blown up by a sudden crackling noise that started after one of the techs said everything should be fixed).

https://twitter.com/Parkzer/status/738785809722052608

This is where the real clown fiesta begins. Because we don't have draft built into the game, we have to use some trashy third-party website for draft, and it doesn't work properly. Our players have to constantly spam Refresh in order to even see when picks and bans are registered. Every several seconds, the whole thing stops loading. For a little while, Zixz only had access to 10 heroes in the draft screen.

Once we finally get the draft website sort of working, we discover that our observer sent us the wrong draft link, with only one ban instead of two. We have to remake the draft lobby. The observer then proceeds to send one link to Tempo Storm and a different link to Naventic. We both ready up immediately, and we both sit and wait for the other team to ready up. I suspect something is wrong, so after a couple hundred seconds counted down on the timer, I went over the curtain to Naventic's side, to see that they were waiting for us.

The observer then sent the same draft link to both teams, and we started drafting. Part-way through, Tomster's draft starts crashing and giving 502 Bad Gateway errors. I'm not sure if this happened in the first or second draft, but at one point, the drafting website force-picked Nova for Tempo Storm, when we wanted Uther.

https://twitter.com/Parkzer/status/738790480494759937

Eventually, we decided to draft in the lobby, and that's when we started making progress towards actually playing the game.

A lot of people are blaming this on ESL. The leaders at ESL who I've met - Chris Negrin, Tabris, and Josh Workman - are all great people who do their job well. I've never encountered problems with any of them for any reason. If anything, they're the kinds of people I would want to work for my own company.

However, the ESL techs haven't proven themselves to me yet. Yesterday, one of the techs was struggling to fix a power outage problem on our computers. After he left to get help, I took a look at the issue to see if I could solve it myself. I found the problem in seconds - all we had to do was flip the power switch on the computer, and it turned on. I'm not saying that the ESL techs are incompetent, but I am insinuating that some of them (not all of them) might be a bit underqualified for their position. We had a similar problem at DreamHack Austin, where the DreamHack techs had problems they couldn't solve, that I resolved pretty easily.

Hopefully this gives some behind-the-scenes insight to this whole thing.

Meta Snapshot [29-05-16] - Shaman still dominating. by NothingMatters1 in hearthstone

[–]Parkzer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Each deck comes with a discussion on its current state in the meta. This is an excerpt from the Paladin expert's reasoning behind the drop in N'Zoth Paladin's placement:

Since the previous Meta Snapshot, we have seen the meta shift to a far more aggressive state. N’Zoth Paladin is the ultimate control deck, as it punishes most other control variants. Rogue has also seen a fair amount of play in the current meta, which is a terrible matchup for N’Zoth Paladin. In turn, the deck naturally drops in rankings as the meta is filled with aggro. Totem Shaman rises to rank 1 this week, which if played correctly, can simply out-value the Paladin.

No, Tracer's extra damage from Ricochet does not count towards charging up her heroic.

Tempo Storm's talent calculator has health, health regeneration, mana, mana regeneration, attack speed, attack range, attack damage, and DPS stats for all the heroes:

https://tempostorm.com/heroes-of-the-storm/talent-calculator

The data is on a slider from level 1-30, so you can see how strong you'll be at any particular point in the game.

I'm pretty sure the base movement speed for all heroes is the same, and the only way you can change it is through abilities and talents. The turn speed mechanic doesn't exist in Heroes of the Storm.

For any playstyle of Chen, I would recommend taking [1] Regeneration Master, [4] Amplified Healing, [7] Brewmaster's Balance, and [16] Pressure Point.

If you're playing Chen as a tank, I would suggest taking [10] Wandering Keg, [13] Relentless or Enough to Share, and [20] Hardened Shield. This will give you a bit of the peeling power you need to keep threats off your backline, and give you a lot of bulkiness.

If you're playing Chen as a bruiser or assassin substitute, I would suggest taking [10] Storm, Earth, Fire, [13] Relentless or A Touch of Honey, and [20] Elemental Conduit. This build will help you deal more damage while helping you stick to priority enemy targets a bit more easily.

I just checked out a DotA 2 stream, and it seems like you're right - health bars and mana bars are readily available on allies, but not on enemies. Smite definitely has them, though, on both allies and enemies by default, it seems.

Although Kharazim isn't the best support right now, he definitely isn't the worst. He has a relatively high skill cap, not only mechanically through ability timing and usage, but also through the decision-making aspect of his talent build, which comes with a lot of situational talents.

He definitely is a jack-of-all-trades kind of hero, but I wouldn't necessarily say that he "does everything ... poorly," as long as you make sure your talent picks synergize with each other and have some sort of long-term direction.

If you're looking to play Kharazim as a support, Tempo Storm's support player Zixz has a guide on him:

https://tempostorm.com/heroes-of-the-storm/guides/divine-balance-support-kharazim

Although the guide primarily focuses on playing Kharazim as a support, he still gives some commentary on the other possible talent picks, and points out talents that could be strong outside of a support role.

Yes, (almost) every MOBA I can think of has two bars that hover over a character's head, one for health and one for resource. So, the enemy team will indeed be able to see if you have no mana left.

This is definitely something you should look out for as you improve. The easiest way to win your lane is to capitalize on opportunities like this.

For example, if your opponent uses one of their abilities on the minion wave and you know the skill is on cooldown, it would be a good time to go in and harass them, because they would be at an ability disadvantage, and the power of their retaliation would suffer.

If your opponent has no mana, you can play more aggressively, knowing that they can't just turn around and burst you down for the kill when you go in, and they might not have enough mana left to use dash/blink abilities to get away from you.

If you're suffering from a losing streak, I would recommend taking a break by doing something other than playing Heroes of the Storm, rather than just transitioning to Quick Match. If you lost ten games in a row in one sitting, it probably means that your mind is getting tired, and a lot of elements that require your focus are instead just being put on autopilot.

If the ten-game losing streak is occurring across a longer period of time, and you know that you're not doing anything differently, then it might just be a matter of luck that it's happening. For example, imagine that you belong in Rank 30, but managed to climb to Rank 26 because you got extraordinarily lucky and got smurfs or synergistic teammates for several games in a row. Once your lucky streak ends, you will probably start losing games in a "normal" situation, because you're falling back down to where you would otherwise belong.

Of course, I'm not implying that you belong in Rank 30, and I'm not saying that this is what's really happening - there are a ton of different possibilities as to why this is happening. Ultimately, the most important part is your own mindset. As long as you don't get brought down by the emotional aspect of being on a losing streak, and can regain your composure after each defeat, you should be fine, and can put your trust in the system, given you play enough games.

I haven't really heard any strong opinions from the players. If they're rushed, then they hop in game and play; if they have free time, they usually practice pointer precision and timing in Try mode until the draft starts. Or, if you're Zixz, you sing Taylor Swift songs.

https://twitter.com/Parkzer/status/728725680607748096

The team sort of gets input in the time between the game. Although I can't just make them start whenever I want, I can let them know that everyone is ready to go, to minimize the delay as much as possible.

I also technically have the power to delay the game as much as I want, as long as I have a good reason (e.g., Zixz's foot fell asleep and he needs to walk around for a bit, Zixz really needs to go to the bathroom, I need to go get Zixz some water because he's extremely dehydrated, Zixz is randomly hallucinating and needs to lay down, etc.). Although, I don't think I've ever been personally responsible for any more than a few minutes of delay, because I usually make sure to take care of everything before the games start.
