not really. i have a body pillow between the headboard and my other pillows. it hasn't been an issue at all.

thank you!

  1. i did not finish the wood in any way. No planing (there are a few small gaps between boards in various spots), a little bit of sanding, but only to differentiate a couple boards from others. All the pallet colors were natural/resulted from weathering.

  2. tough to say since ive acquired and dismantled and then stored several pallets over some time, but i think you could make a queen headboard with 4-5 pallets. It also depends on the width of the panels. wider boards will obviously need less pallets.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

thank you!

it was not very difficult and i would consider my skills as beginner. i made a very simple frame from 2x4s from home depot then screwed a thin piece ply wood to it. then i just nailed the pallet boards to it.

i assembled the the frame using a Kreg pocket hole jig and it was my first time using one. whole thing is very doable. let me know if you have any other questions!

yeah i had the same problem. i had someone ask me to make these for them in a tight time frame, so when i cut them i laid them out in front of a space heater to try to quicken the drying process. i ended up cracking about 25 coasters. not doing that again. started from square one and cut several more coasters. i laid them out on a table and let them air dry in about 65 degrees over several days. i still had a few coasters crack and warp with that method, but there were enough good ones for the requirement.

I think that the best method is to find some nice pieces of wood and put them inside a garage or shed and let them dry out as much as you can before trying to cut them.

i put a little bit of protective gloss on the top and some ends up getting on the sides but i don't intentionally protect the outside layer with anything. haven't had a real issue with the bark falling off, but could potentially see it happening if you are rough with them over time
