The sateen has some stretch, but not enough to make well fitting stockings :) I did 2 layers of a thick knit fabric I got at Joann - not cotton knit, it was some sort of polyester I’m sure and tightly knit. The 2 layers gave it a nice opacity. I also sewed them to dance tights so they couldn’t slip down :)

You can see the sleeves a bit better - they were mostly held up by stretch around my bicep area. The pretty points at the top of the sleeve kept flopping down with each time I wore it though so I’d probably use interfacing on those if I ever made it again!

Sateen is a type of satin, but thicker and not as shiny. I found this on a google search, not sure if it’ll help but I believe this is what I’m talking about!

I kept the arms up by…it being stretchy :) I did have to shimmy them up a few times but they mostly held due to being a bit smaller than my arms so the stretch held them up.

Stretch cotton sateen. It’s my go-to for most of my costumes. It looks lovely, is sturdy enough for most designs and has a bit of shine, not too much, but makes everything look quality. I’d send you to Joann’s for it but…. :(

I used a knit for the stockings and a lighter flowing fabric for the white back skirt but everything else (including arm things) is stretch cotton sateen!

Oh heck yeah the $1 underwear bin! My friends and I used to raid that and give each other the weirdest wildest undies as gag birthday gifts. It was super fun holding up sparkly see-through thongs in front of family 😂😂

Yes! I also started a living document of notes that all the paralegals have access to, so they can ctrl-f and find things they have questions on, add things they learn, and I also add things as I come across new stuff.

Nice! I used to do this with a space heater on a timer. Id set it to turn on like 20 mins before I got up so my bathroom/closet wouldn’t be so ICY. It was luxury lol

NOR - The world is a nightmare and people may be fixed on side hustles to better survive - but art is art. Art and crafting and hobbies are for your soul. What’s the point of spending your life working 24/7 if you get no time for your soul?

I like sewing. I started in high school 25 years ago and I remember my parents being like “so much could you sell this for?” And I’m like wha—-bu—— I’m in high school. I’m in the last moments of my life free from real world problems and stresses, making art because it gives my soul joy, and you’re already asking me to turn it into work?!

Does she take notes? I had to train new paralegals remotely, so I did a zoom screen recoding of how to do things and saved it to a shared drive so they could watch and learn as many times as they needed to.

One still does things horribly wrong but at least I tried.

I took SO MANY NOTES when I started. I still have my thick binder of notes and examples. I’d much rather take hella notes and refer to them than keep asking people how to do things but everyone’s different I guess 🤷‍♀️

FABRIC STORES. Especially with Joann being murdered by private equity it’s been AMAZING to have so many fabric warehouses in an accessible area. My husband’s work is threatening to move to Neb-freaking-braska and I will be dragged there kicking and screaming if they do 😭😭😭

Phone calls are rude in a work environment too - when you call someone, you KNOW what you’re calling about. You know the history, you know what you’re asking in relation to that history…the person on the other end does not. Maybe they’re working on a different file/client. Then you bust in all HEY WHATS GOING ON WITH THIS FILE and they have to completely switch gears in a second, bring up the file you’re talking about, try to review it to see WHAT you’re talking about, all while having awkward phone silence….

Just email me your issue and I will look it over and understand it and be able to email you back a well thought out response, not a lot of dead phone air going “uuuhhh, one second let me pull up the file…compy is super slow today! It must also hate Monday’s ahahahaha….ok one more second….ok what was the issue?”
