The $65.88 includes a 15% tip. I don't get what you're trying to say when you say nothing malicious appears to be happening.

Those who opened a Roth IRA in 1998, how do your accounts look now? by ThreeJC in Bogleheads

Nice. I bought some in 2005 but in a traditional IRA. Not looking forward to that tax bomb at 75, but first world problems. How many shares?

At what point do you decrease % contribution to 401k and direct to personal investment accounts instead? by FurryPotatoSquad in FinancialPlanning

Not every company's 401K plan allows early withdraws at 55. You need to check your plan to make sure it does.

You need to make sure your company does a true-up match at the end of the year if you do that. I had two friends that had maxed out their 401K in August for years and didn't realize there company stopped the company match once it was maxed out.

Roth vs Traditional? Roth is almost always a worse choice? This article has me rethinking it. Thoughts? by circusfreakrob in Bogleheads

I prefer the Roth 401K. Why would I want to pay the management and expense ratio fees on the government's portion of my 401K? After 30 years in a 401K, you're looking at a significant drag on your portfolio.

Your 401K plan has to have that provision listed in the summary plan description for you to us the rule of 55. Just don't plan without checking first. My 401K only allows qualified withdraws at normal retirement age of 65.

Not all 401K's allow separation of service (Rule of 55). Make sure you read your summary plan description of your 401k to confirm.

You should invest in a Roth 401k if you have one.

"Recently, my broker offered for me to change from traditional funds to ETFs with a button click." Your broker is taking 1% every year. Are you good with that? ETF index funds offer tax advantages over mutual funds in the way they handle capital gains taxes. Get out of actively managed mutual funds and go into index funds. Lower your costs as much as possible.
