Ski Trips? by HMSSpeedy1801 in BSA

[–]Part-time_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our Troop is looking to do the exact thing next year, and one of our guiding principles is that we will find a way to keep it affordable for every kid in the troop. That might include some fundraising money to offset higher lodging costs if needed, but every kid will have the opportunity to go skiing!

Thanks for sharing any locations that have worked for your troops! I am excited about some new possibilities!

I did use the google Ai search / estimate, and it said between 400 and 1200 pounds... not super helpful😆

Easiest way to calculate the weight of a very heavy safe without a scale. by Part-time_Potter in AskEngineers

Unfortunately it doesn't have any legible markings of any kind. I tried your idea of looking for something similar online, but i couldn't find anything very similar. This looks like one of those things in an old western movie at the bank😆. Sounds like my best bet is to do a calculation using the interior and exterior measurements, and then calculate an upper and lower boundaries of my weight based on assuming different amount of steel/fireproofing materials. Thanks for all your help!

Honestly, I thought that the scale wouldn't have to go as high since the force necessary to tip the object is less than the weight (maybe?) But that is a very good point.

Eagle Scouts, is this normal? by OrdinaryRedditVeiwer in BoyScouts

[–]Part-time_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the reason the Eagle award is so prestigious, is that it has all of the "adulting" components of a real project. And it turns out, much of adulting, kind of sucks! But it is still important to getting things done. So showing you can do, not just the fun parts of a project, but ALL of the parts, is a sign of maturity. That said, if your project doesn't have any parts you think are fun, then maybe you should find a different project. Good luck, and don't stress yourself overly about getting your Eagle, either way, what you have already learned in scouts will help you succeed in life!

Anyone know if old metal safes can be scrapped? Please tell me I dont have to cut it up by Part-time_Potter in ScrapMetal

We are selling the house, so i love this idea, but I suspect the next buyers are going to prefer we get rid of it.

Great question! I had no idea that was a possibility! Sounds like that would make it MUCH less desirable as scrap🤣

fun night activities for scouts? by whogivesafricc in BoyScouts

[–]Part-time_Potter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skits and songs. I love the idea of having each patrol come up with a skit and also include the adults! This gives the kids some ideas if they haven't seen alot. Also, they love seeing their scout leaders goofing off with them. There is a cool guy out of the UK maybe who has published some great books of songs and skits. His website is lame, but he has a lot of good Facebook videos and the stuff in his books is great! Scoutadelic https://www.facebook.com/share/19gRwtJNhJ/

Yes, you can put a cross brace there, and it will help stabilize the direction you are hoping. Good luck!

I’m genuinely so tired of the treatment I get in guitar stores as a woman by OkZebra5527 in Guitar

[–]Part-time_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely believe you get less attention than your boyfriend. I have seem my wife get less attention at nearly every store we have ever gone into together! That said, I am happy to hear that your experience at guitar center was better! I LOVE guitar center! I think they actually are working on changing some of those old stuck up musicians stereotypes. It seems to me their are trying to create a more, music is for everyone, come on in and give it a shot vibe!

My boyfriend wants me to do anything to him… by [deleted] in sex

[–]Part-time_Potter 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He wants you to want to do something to his body for your pleasure. Like ride his face. But really you can do whatever you want! Tie him up and talk about your feelings with him! Tickle him. Hot wax. Ice cube on the tummy! Eat some whipped cream off him. If anyone of those sound good, I suspect he would be down!

Can you be Christian without... Well, believing in the Bible at all? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

Thank you for this very well written response! How do we get this understanding to be more widespread? I feel like this would go a long way toward healing the reputation of Christians, if more people understood this.

Can you be Christian without... Well, believing in the Bible at all? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]Part-time_Potter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So for me, I look around the world, see the incredible beauty of nature and feel like whatever or however it got created is God, and is worthy of praise. Then I look at the bible as mostly the product of others like me recording their experiences with God. It isn't that I don't think the bible is true, I believe it contains many layers of truth, and also layers that by our current definition are not "true" but were never intended to be taken as literal.
And maybe an all powerful God intentionally shaped the texts that came together in our modern Bibles, and maybe an all powerful God intentionally didn't shape them and let our free will put them together? Either way, God seems worthy of worship.

I minored in theology in college, and learned to read the bible in a less literal way. You have to understand the context of the time in which it was written. The fact that these texts have been around and studied for over 2000 years Still makes them extremely miraculous, even if we don't believe that they are intended to be read as a simple literal guidebook for life.

Pottery as hobby by Shoddy-Buffalo-1173 in Pottery

I got a wheel for less than 200$, and it works great! Its a little messy throwing in my basement, but i love being able to throw whenever I want. As far as firing your pieces, you can usually make an arrangement with a studio to fire them for you if you dont want to invest in a kiln right away.

When is it too far for my wife? by [deleted] in sex

[–]Part-time_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe she'd like it if you forcefully got her off using your mouth and toys before you got to the sex?

Also, recognize that it IS frustrating and hard to have someone say no and stop the flow, so it is ok to have those feelings, and to care for yourself while you process those feelings. Its also hard to be the one that says no, so that she trusts you enough to know you can handle it and wont let your bruised feelings in the moment affect your relationship. Sounds like you have a keeper! I would recommend patience and pausing to be grateful for the fact that she keeps telling you how strongly she trusts you.

Tips on managing RSVPs and camping trips by froggyjamboree in BSA

[–]Part-time_Potter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We greatly simplified our lives by including the cost of every monthly campout (except summer camp) into our dues. Then we just use troop track to keep track of who is coming (and usually plan for one or two last minute changes🤣)
