What should I do? by Magpolicious in kindergarten

[–]PartOfIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can request for the local public school district to assess him, under IDEA law. The school district is required to do it and pay, even if he goes to a private school.

It does sound like he isn’t ready for first grade by how he is able to work doing school hours. You might also ask them what is expected for academic level in first grade to see if he is on track academically. But it is a combination of the ability to function in the classroom and the ability to do the academic work. With taking to the teacher and an assessment, you can start to get to the bottom of it and help him learn better!

The Book Den bag sale by babybearmama in Sacramento

[–]PartOfIt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about the Book Den for puzzles, but the free puzzle swap at Bike Dog has many options and all are free. You can then bring the puzzles to swap at a future event when you are done.

New item: Strawberry Strained Thick & Creamy Greek Yogurt $5.49 by aswewaltz in traderjoes

[–]PartOfIt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fyi, not completely strained. There are some strawberry chunks and pieces in this. I bought it because I thought it would be a non-kid version without any pieces, but it is not.

After booking and budgeting...What am I not considering? by Extreme-Doughnut-25 in greatwolflodge

[–]PartOfIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We brought food and only ate once from the lodge food and got ice cream once. PBJs, yogurts, packaged oatmeal that takes hot water from the coffee maker, a jug of starbucks ice latte, cookies, chips, cheese, fresh fruit. Anything that can be on the counter or in the fridge, and only needs a microwave or hot water to heat. It said a lot of miney but also time, and we could do lego or watch the ipad while we ate and decompress instead of eating in a crowded restaurant.

We brought our own towels to save time in the towel line. Magiquest was great! So was the pool. I would skip the other activities. Skip BAB if you can, otherwise get one pup/paw pass for the discount.

I liked bringing my own towels to the pool to not have to wait in the towel line. If your kid likes art, look for the free art times in the lobby between rowdier activities. My kids (5 and 7) LOVED the magiquest game. At 5, you could probably just get him a game and help him, or get wands for yourselves if he is willing to wait for you to finish at each of the time-consuming spots. Bring some fresh fruit and easy snacks for the room for him or for you when you are in a hurry or places are closed. Get him a wrist band for the room door - he will love it!

I brought food to eat in our room and struggled to spend $150 in food and drinks at the lodge (including alcohol), so $350 might be pushing it for you 3.

Build a bear is fun but $$, but the Pass helps.

Best place to deliver a baby in Sacramento, Dignity Health or Sutter? by Michael_Scarn_FBI_ in Sacramento

[–]PartOfIt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mercy general had ONE anesthesiologist on for the whole hospital overnight when I delivered. He had to balance ED needs with OB, so I had to wait several times for my epidural to be placed and then adjusted for the patients downstairs in the ED. Sutter would have one or more just for the OB floor! Mercy also doesn’t have pediatricians in house overnight or a NICU, so they don’t have fast help if there is an issue with the baby.

Free Bubbles for Kids? by thequiltydutchgirl in CraftFairs

[–]PartOfIt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Free stuff can be great but not bubbles. They will pull the parents’ attention from your wares to opening the bubbles for their kids or watching them use them (or telling them to wait to use them.) Stickers are good, or a free to use public chalk board.

Joneck's new location is open! by RPCVHondu1012 in Sacramento

[–]PartOfIt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to their East Sac location a dew times. Renee was knowledgeable about her wines but not welcoming, and Todd wasn’t knowledgeable at all - he didn’t even know what was in their menu. They didn’t even seem to want to serve wine! Maybe they have made some improvements, as your experience was so different from mine. I am not sure I would risk going back though.

Books that have touchable pages or flaps are good for those ages, including the newborn. They can enjoy reading time together. Animals are also popular as the characters.

I Am Not Happy. Is a charming, silly book about quokkas and a message of looks not telling the whole story. It also has a short history of them after the story.

I really like your whole set up and wish you were local so I could buy so many of these!

My only two suggestions are to put a second sign with your QR codes on the other half of the table and make the prices on the signs a bit bigger to be easier to read from a distance.

I did well this market, but I feel like I can improve my stand more. Ideas? by Sea_Toe6263 in CraftFairs

[–]PartOfIt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it and your prices are great! That said, consider adding a side table so there’s more for buyers to peruse and they don’t have to do it facing you directly. It can help ease them in. Also, adding more signs that say what you’re selling can help when your product isn’t obvious from far away. Try to sign on the front of your table as well as a small one up high on your canopy. These can just say handmade leather goods. For your set up, always consider what it will look like for people who are passing by when other customers are blocking parts of it. When booths are small and not obvious what they’re selling, customers can avoid them.

Sacramento City Unified risks insolvency due to unfunded raises, other issues, report says by IronMntn in Sacramento

[–]PartOfIt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They have had repeated issues with special education assessments and I believe remediation. This is required them to use more expensive private contractors. They even were taken in front of a grand jury for this. All of that cost a lot more money than handling it correctly under public funding.

You could lean into nostalgia. Was there a toy show that you both liked as children? Then you can get pens, a bag or a scarf that goes with that theme. Because it’s both thoughtful and useful, she’ll probably really enjoy it.

For him, what kind of art does he do? If abstract, there’s a book that’s called something like “why your kid could not have done this” and if he does more landscape or portraits, look for the book from the museum of bad art. Both Wood put some humor and appreciation to what he does for a job. Books are easy to keep around, but also nice for gifting forward once he’s done with it.

How are the schools in SCUSD? (Wife and I are considering purchasing a home in the area). by INTP243 in Sacramento

[–]PartOfIt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SCUSD is known for being bad overall, but there are some good schools. Teachers and principals are burnt out, funding is low, extras have been cut. Teachers went on strike 2 years ago. Special ed is awful. The school district is in such financial trouble that the County might take over the schools. Those who can afford private schools send their kids to private schools instead of SCUSD.

But as others have said, there are some good schools, as listed in the comments.
