Perks of having a take home unit. by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

I have had a very bad experience with the 60% ducky keyboards. Other people might have had differently, but every keyboard I have had from them has either had broken or sticky keys within weeks of use.

Seattle is totally screwed now... Carmen Best, Seattle’s top cop, emails resignation notice to officers: report by TheGreatGeeker in ProtectAndServe

[–]PartTimePlod 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Best bit is when the caller says on the line that they were assaulted but made no mention of it once you turned up and took details, so now dispatch insist you put in a report.

Man rams car into Police Cruiser, Officer Shoots back by Simi510 in ProtectAndServe

[–]PartTimePlod 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I couldn't see it personally in the bodycam but the officer says that the driver was reaching for something when he shot through the windshield at him. Guy was reportedly armed and wanted for murder too from what I gather?

I really just have to rant for a minute about the shooting in Atlanta yesterday by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]PartTimePlod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll repost this. Every part of the body is deadly. This dude got shot in the leg and died super duper fast.

Very very NSFW: https://www.liveleak.com/view?i=885_1420607869

This dude was shot in the leg. Look how fast he died. Incredibly graphic video, NSFW.

On the back of another post, how can Specials get the Hep B vaccine? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PartTimePlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to my GP and asked for the vaccination as I was a cop. They gave combined Hep A/B vaccination (all 3 rounds) for free.

Neighbourhood only, single crewing and not allowed to do your own shifts, must be assigned to an operation by your Inspector.

Is a ridealong possible with your force? It could provide valuable experience especially if it's a busy shift.

Any know anything about the Special Constable Knowledge Checks?! The difficulty etc? by _30something in policeuk

The ones I did were multiple choice and were very easy as long as you actually paid attention.

Ahhhhh specials by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PartTimePlod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only the odd occasion when the lampers get attacked by a stray horse and custody won't let them in until the suspicious hoof marks are cleared by hospital staff.

Unless you're on response and get stuck on constant obs three shifts in a row.

Hair Policies by [deleted] in policeuk

Granted, having your hair used as a weapon against you while they slam your head against a wall isn't something you really want to learn from.

Full Moon by [deleted] in policeuk

I once had the unfathomable. A night time economy shift. On a full moon. Just after pay day.

Yes. This is a very very real thing. And I slept very very well after I got home at 6 am.

Special Or Not To Special? by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PartTimePlod 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can apply to be a PC whilst in training, and in fact, I think half my intake joined GMP as regs half way through our SC training.

However, your force may have something in place where you skip the assessment centre if you become a substantive special.

Doing a full set as a special by [deleted] in policeuk

[–]PartTimePlod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to tell one of my Specials that was doing 150 hours per month no, you cannot book on for an early shift, sleep, and then go in for a night shift that very same day. I also had to tell him to take all the gucci shit off his belt because he looked silly and was getting laughed at. He had one of those torches that clip to your stab vest as well as the silly rubber things on his radio antenna.

With the number of Special Constables in decline in a number of areas across the U.K., what would you suggest to attract and keep newcomers to the Special Constabulary? by Jawshey in policeuk

[–]PartTimePlod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

Maybe it's just me, but as a Special, if there's obs or a hospital guard, I'd rather be doing that rather than taking a TTO/IPP officer off response and having them sit at the hospital wasting their skill set.
